Shibas "blow their coat" about twice a year, and it's a lot! We have tile floors and just blow out the hairs with an electric leaf blower. works great. the roomba helps too. when they are not blowing their coat, it's not to bad. not near as bad as a golden retriever though.
aw... the "no!!! I know what you're doing and i DON'T LIKE IT! i don't wanna go! i don't wanna go!! NO! NO! NO!!!" face XD
My shiba protests admirably in the bath... She makes it sound like I'm murdering her, but luckily, the neighbors know how much I love my baby bear & that she's just giving me hell because she's not having a good time lol!
We had a newfoundland dog when I was little and dad had to carry her up the stairs, it was fun to watch and Caisa was a little bigger and more heavy then a normal female of her breed.
She's much better now. Once i say the word bath, she knows she will get a treat afterwards. So now she will walk to the tub and wait to be lifted in. it was just funny though that when i used to pick her up normally, she would throw her head back and arch her back making her difficult to hold. The male still runs and hides and fights the whole time.
If you move slow at bath time and talk in a high pitched voice it makes it easier. Also hand out lots of treats and keep saying "good dog". Try and make bathtime a fun time instead of a bad experience. :)
I know. I've got her trained now to walk to the bathroom and just lift her in. She does arch her back A LOT when i try to pick her up which is what's happening in the vid.
when ever im at my grandparents and we give their shiba inu a bath she just looks at us with a kinda sad look but other than that she just stands there.
Mine isn't a huge fan of baths, but as soon as she starts to freak out, all she needs is that sprayer on her chest and she instantly calms down, lol. We also turned drying her off into a fun game so she has that to look forward to. =)
Shiba's definitely do not like baths. My little man gets super straight legged and crazy feet when we put him in the tub. For sure the detach shower head is the best way to go. Also if you massage your doggy it will make them feel better and not hate it so much.
Thats very cute, my family's dog, a shiba-akita mix, if you say to him "You want a bath?" he gets all depressed and then goes and lays down under the desk where nobody can see him.
My Shiba hates it too, she almost killed me (not literally) the last time I tried to give her a bath. Pulled the shower curtain down and the rod hit me in the head, she knocked over just about everything bolted down. It was like a hurricane came through our bathroom...
She's gooten a lot better. By going slow and more like massaging her instead of scrubbing she will actuall come into the bathroom when called. Now the male is a diff story. He has to be cornered and carried to the tub.
he's like nooo nooo!!!!! i don't want too! let me go! lol

You can't carry them like that. You have to put one hand on the chest and the other on it's bottom.

We only bath ours every few weeks. When they play, they get spit all over each other which start to stink after awhile.

Oh, my shiba loves the bathroom, and getting her into the tub is the easy part. The hard part is keeping her in there for more than three seconds.
SaberWingDragon 2 years ago
Advice, keep the door closed and if possible put sliding doors up. Also, get clothes that you don't mind getting soaked in.
