  • amazing. Cronenberg is such a nice director.

  • The music in the background is so annoying -_-

    Great interview though :D

  • I hate to dump praise on Stanley Kubrick, but I think that there need to me more directors like him (although Cronenberg is great too).

The kind of directing I would want to get into is making movies that FIX movies. Seeing what's wrong with a genre, and doing it better.

Kubrick said "hey, Sci-fi is kind of lame. Let's make a GOOD sci-fi", and came up with 2001. He said "hey, horror is kind of lame. Let's make a GOOD horror", and out came The Shining. Repeat until his career is over.

  • @normansmother1 I actually disagree. Watch Kubrick for films to dissect. I mean, the last 10 seconds of The Shining have more depth than most movies out there.

But Tarantino, if you dissect his movies, you'll find a lot of dead ends and plot holes. Nothing makes any sense in his films, in a really bad way. I mean, on a technical side, he's somewhat decent, but when it comes to storytelling, he falls FLAT. You need to read some analysis on 2001 or A Clockwork Orange or The Shining.

  • Tarantino is Great and so is Cronenberg

Nolan is a faggot movie maker

  • @kaustavthegodfather I think that Tarantino is worse than Nolan. Nolan at least has some good ideas in my point of view. Tarantino is just "let's see how many film-makers we can rip off". Seriously, is there a single second in any of his films that isn't ripped off?

  • @normansmother1 I know what you mean. I hate "Horror" movies today like Saw because they aren't really horror, they are just gore and porn. Cronenburg and Kubrick and even Ridley Scott when he made Alien actually scared you and made you afraid of being in a room by yourself, they didn't aim to gross you out.

  • @40Pacino I entirely disagree (about Kubrick and Scott).

Kubrick and Scott are two of my favorite directors, but Alien put me to sleep (although I love the film. Not scary to me at all). The Shining? It's fun, it's great, it's one of the best films ever made. But it's not scary. Kubrick has managed to make me afraid of being in a room by myself, and that was with 2001. That film scares the crap out of me. It's really well done.

I think Lynch is the director who is best at horror.

  • @Bassbait I saw both Alien and the Shining when I was young, so that would explain why it scared me so easily. But do you at least get my point? About how horror or just scaring us in general with suspense or thrillers have really fallen by the way side in the past few years.

  • @40Pacino Yes. It's just that horror movies have never really scared me. Only Predator when I was 6 (I crapped my pants, which is embarrassing to a 6 year old.)

Otherwise, horror movies have never really had a traumatic effect on me, so I've grown to be immune to most films that try to make you afraid of things. My imagination is actually much scarier than films ever get, and since I stop imagining when I watch films, I'm not disturbed at all. That's just a personal thing though.

  • I'm a film fan and it was only yesterday I found out David directed the Dead Zone! Shame on me!

  • Cronenberg has the coolest hair :D

    What a hero.

  • a visionary-and a prophet-fuck MOHAMMED-give me CRONENBERG any day!

  • i love this guy!

    long may you reign david baby;

    :o)

  • so sad that Videodrome is being remade

and I assume from what he says that he'd hate all of Tarantino's work haha

  • @MGD81 : Cronenberg is a great filmaker who has a brilliant, provocative body of work that spans 3 decades . Tarantino is a pretend filmaker who watched lots of videos when he worked in his video shop, dreamed of being Scorsese or Leone, got lucky with his first film, promoted himself as cinema's spokesman of his generation, 'enfant terrible".,and since then, has coasted on an undeserved reputation. Cronenberg year after year , just does great work without the self congragulatory hype .

  • @machiaveliyoohoo I agree with you about Cronenburg, but I think you're being unfair to Tarantino. Cronenberg appears to be a quiet master, while QT appears as a hyperactive wanna be, but don't let that frazzled facade fool you. Qt, learntt movies from watching them, no argument there, but think his intentions are pure. I personally rate Cronenberg higher that QT, but there's 20 years difference in their ages. Give QT time, he'll deliver.
