  • It is my understanding that "husband of one wife" was an issue because of polygamy - not because women couldn't be deacons, etc.

  • Polygamy or monogamy doesn`t matter he says a husband, which only a man can be.

  • Disagee: reference to Adam MAKES it a universal rule, women don't get the spiritual gift of pastor-teacher (ties to Eph4:11). BUT 2:15 is funny in Greek, shows women have spiritual equality, but different roles. For who's not influenced by mothering? Tough job!

  • I think it's referring to a husband-wife relationship - I don't see a command in Scripture for a woman to be in submission to anyone but her husband - which is where the referrence to Adam comes in.

  • No, it already presumes she's doing that. Paul is saying it's an EQUAL SPIRITUALITY despite the unequal relationship (i.e., submission). My pastor taught this stridently and now I see it in the Greek for myself, so I gotta disagree with you about the verse's meaning. I love that verse, it's punny: "the woman shall be delivered through delivery". Paul is always talking about God's Begetting (lol the only virgin apostle constantly uses sexual analogies). Very funny, here.

  • I had never considered that he may have been referring to a specific woman, but it certainly makes more sense in light of Galatians 3:28.

  • I agree.

  • Thank 3rd proverb - I appreciate your efforts and opinion bro!
