Apollo 17, launched December 7, 1972, was the last Apollo mission to the moon. Mission commander Eugene Cernan was the last person to leave the Moon's surface. The crew returned safely to Earth on December 19, 1972.
Originally three additional lunar landing missions had been planned, as Apollo 18 through Apollo 20. In light of the drastically shrinking NASA budget and the decision not to produce a second batch of Saturn Vs, these missions were canceled to make funds available for the development of the Space Shuttle, and to make their Apollo spacecraft and Saturn V launch vehicles available to the Skylab program.
If Leonov is so famous, and an accomplished artist, surely there must be a contact email or such like to get in touch with him? Why doesn't someone email him and ask him his side of the story?
He is, there is, and I did. His official statement in response to the question was essentially an admission, stating, among other things, in essence, things regarding ASTP (SATP as he call's it) aren't quite what you've been lead to believe. Val
I sent him a legal letter, in Russian, in the form of a single, direct interrogatory, requiring only a simple "yes" or "no" answer. He responded, in Russian, in the form of a simple direct statement, essentially saying that what we've been told about the "SATP" is "clear fabrication." After further investigation, I found out why. But I cannot disclose just yet, for reasons I cannot disclose just yet. I am prepared to take an oath under penalty of perjury they are true and correct.
Val, keep us in mind when you decide to disclose what he told you? I to have certain information concerning the Apollo 20 mission which is quite compelling. You take care my friend.
@ValValiantThor What is a "legal letter" and why would Leonov feel compelled to respond, truthfully or otherwise? "Essentially saying" is a prevarication. Either he affirmed your theory or he didn't. Which was it? You have proof but you can't disclose it and we're expected to trust you're telling the truth because you say you are. At the same time you're saying NASA is lying because they either refuse to comment or deny your claims.
Some have claimed because Aleksey Leonov painted stars in his paintings one should see stars in space. I say, artistic license. Heres proof.
Seagulls in Space!
space - pictures . com / seagull . html
(copy into browser bar, and remove spaces)
Does this mean there is a vast worldwide conspiracy to cover up the existence of space birds? No, it means an artist decided to put birds in his picture for a symbolic and aesthetic purposes. Same with stars. A black sky though accurate is not very pretty.
I have no doubt there are and have been secret trips to the moon, space, and other neighboring planets throughout our solar system. Do you really think the government tells you about it's secret military space corp or their missions? If this concept frightens you then climb back into your plastic microwave world that you live in and stick that pacifier back in your mouth.
its not technologically possible yet to reach so said "other planets" besides possibly mars
if you can prove to me what you claimed with real proof then ill shut up, but until then dont think that your smart just because you have some stupid little theory that you got from a mystery thriller movie.
you know, I don't believe this one bit, but it is the one conspiracy theory I WANT to believe. I wonder what the world would be like if the Russians had accepted Kennedy's offer to go to the moon together. Thr thought of bringing Aleksey Leonov to the moon, like he wanted is just well, really rather sweet. It would say something very nice about human nature, something that most conspiracy theories lack. Aleksey Leonov IS a hero.
Right... so before NASA launched Apollo 15, congress cut NASA's budget and cancelled the last three lunar missions (18 19 and 20). But somehow, Aleksey A. Leonov was able to command a flight to the moon with an American spacecraft (apollo was not russian) without the government finding out about it. Uh huh. Right. Dumb ass
speedracerjeff, such is a rather bald and conclusary assertion. It appears that what you are saying is (rather incorrectly), only "NASA" (and not the USAF or the National Reconnaissance Office) can launch a Saturn V moon rocket. Such an assertion is absurdly false. The NRO and USAF have launched more spacecraft than all the world, including NASA, combined. It is well within the NRO's province and capability to send USAF/CIA pilots to the moon and has been for at least 40 years.
@ValValiantThor horsecrap!... NRO/AF launches are from "vandy land" ( vandenburg afb ca.Tthey launch titan, minuteman and smaller vehicles for earth orbit. There isno "VAB " ( gigantic Vehicle Assembly Building there to assemble the saturn V needed to get to the moon with apollo equipment. It would have to launch from merrit island ( cape canaveral/kennedy)
it would be awful hard to hide a saturn V launch at the cape.
@46ace --Actually, 46ace, the practice at Vandenburg is to stack mount the ship on the ground. The primary function of the VAB is to protect the vehicle from hurricanes. Los Angeles rarely ever has a hurricane. Consequently, there is no need for a VAB. Case in point, the Shuttle was at one time or another tasked with launches from Vandenburg for military missions before being scrapped. Such missions never involved a VAB. Do your homework 46ace.
It seems to me that no one can inform you of things that go on covertly. The mindset that "That's fake, because the gov't would've told us." Open your mind and realize that more is going on than what you know. The knowledge the gov't has can benefit the entire world. Oh, but I guess you're more interested in who'll win American Idol. Dumb ass.
Have you made your mind up about who you would like to see in the Whitehouse? If you could hand pick the President, who would you choose? Before you do make that important decision please check out Ron Paul. It is your choice. Make it count!
no body want to the moon yet , the nasa it selve say it " Our bigest challenge to send a man to the moon will be to protect them from Radiation , we are working on it and it still extremely hard to figure out how " so if in 2007 we do not have the technologie to protect our astronote i dont think it will be possible 60 years ago ...light!camera! ACTION !!! look STANLEY KUBRICK MOON FAKER you will understand
They mean to protect them from radiation for a long period of time...the new astronauts aren't going to just be there for a few hours like the Apollo missions were.
"Apollo18-Soyuz" mission taken place in July 1975, there were other two missions on the Moon: the Apollo 19 (failed because of <>, see the interview with W.Rutledge) and the Apollo 20 (August 1976), which were both classifed Space missions launched from the Vandenberg Air Force Base (California).
The Apollo 20 crew patch original artwork as displayed at Vandenberg AFB was no doubt painted by General Leonov himself, probably while in training there. Pay particular attention to both the lunar module and the accentuated crater caricatures in the Apollo 20 patch artwork. Now compare that to the art in the Leonov "artist" video posted in response to the CSM flyover video posted by retiredafb (possibly General Leonov himself, since he is also retired air force brass).
