I am still a little bit confuse with the Time Machine. Is this an image of your HDD or clone of your HDD?

I am new to Mac, I am running my first TM (OS X Lion) and it says it will take 5hours. Does it backup the OS it self? When I get my MBP, it did not come with OS DVD.

@TheBeautyfreak98 You need an external hard drive for starters. Plug it in, and just set it up through Time Machine, as shown in this video.

I just had a new hard drive put in my macbook by the guys in the apple store (faulty hard drive)

Before they did anything i backed up the system on my external hard drive ready to restore the system once the hard drive had been replaced.

During the start up process where it says "do you already own a mac?" i made a error somewhere and my files didnt restore with time machine.

All i want to know is how can i now restore my files?

i cant go back to the setup stage?

Hey Alex, do I really need to format the BU drive as Mac OS Extended (Journaled)? I believe this means I can't use this drive on a PC? Ideally I'd like to be able to use on a PC as well. thoughts?

i have a mac from school and i i have downloaded alot. they will take my mac if they see i have downloaded. I need to copy my whole mac and reinstall it so they can search my mac without taking it. And after they searched it i will put the copy back i i have everything back... The school will use some special USB that searchs the mac on torrents, porno and all that kind of stuff. So i need to copy everything then reinstall my mac and then let the school search i and then put my stuff back.

Is this better than Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC)? I haven't used any of these before so I wanna know before I shift Macs.

(1) What program did you use to record this (in the upper right corner there was a thing that said "stop recording" so I'm assuming you were using something to record either your voice or the screen.)

(2) I'm assuming my HD has to be connected to my computer in order to back up. So if I have it set to back up every hour or w/e and it's not plugged in, what happens?

(3) What is the best way to have it set up to auto back up? Do I want it every hour? Or is that too much memory? Thanks!
