__ This Is The Epitome; Of What Great Talent Is and Is Missing From Entertainment Today.. You Dont Have To Dress Like A Tramp & Sing Suggestive B/S. "IF" You Have What These Gentlemen Had"______ Talent"
Hey, great entertainment! I randomly went on here and noticed my brother Darko Anton made a comment! I agree no special effects or gimmicks just good real music.
that was just the way they made them ! something to do with tubes i think !! our first tv was 12 inch in a big wooden case ! i remember watching popeye on it when i was about 4 ! im 55 now ! still watch popeye lol!!
The old TV's were quite limited on technology and that is all the TV makers were able to deliver at that time. Square screens didn't happen until about the mid 70's. The screen was a big vacuum tube.
@adjam5 Actually rectangle color tv tubes came out in the 1960's. I remember an old tv commercial for Motorolo where a guy tells his friend that his color tv picture tube is rectangle. His friend doesn't believe him so he takes him home and dismantles the entire set in his living room to prove that the tube IS rectangle.
@bdzmusicprod We bought our first color set in 1965, when the round tube and rectangular screen sets were both still in the stores. We paid the extra money for the cool rectangular screen. I love this clip of Dean with the Mills Brothers, especially his banter with Harry Mills, standing to his left. When he was once asked who his musical inspiration was, Dean answered that it was Harry Mills. He said that Harry Mills was by far the best he ever heard.
Thank you so much, wurly1100, for putting this on a 1965 TV. I put this on full screen and enjoyed the view. (I wish I could put "rabbit ears" on top of my flat screen monitor, just to get the true nostalgia.)
My dad turned me onto the Mills Brothers and they are so awesome. I can see what you mean by Dean and Harry. My dad sings these songs around the house too. Dean fits in very well. Better than Bing.
Some people think that Bing Crosby was Deans influence because they had simalar styles, but it was Harry Mills that was Deans idol and insperation. This video really shows Harry's relaxed style and frasing that has become Deans trademark as well
I found this as I have to learn Paper Doll for a play I am in "A View From The Bridge" by Arthur Miller. Bearing in mind that I was not even born when this clip was recorded, I still think it is a fantastic song and only hope that I can do it the justice it deserves. Thanks for making my job a little easier!
Boy your so right Dean Imatadiated Harry Mills!!!!! He loved those Guys!! Dean sounded so good with others especially the Mills bros wow great sounds!!!!!!!!!
Price-less folks...... Seeing this on the old round-screen TV is the best part for me..... GASP ! Am I that old ?! 'Preciate the efforts to get this up and running.... 5 gold stars !
My mom used to sing this to us when we were small. Found this by accident and now Im crying.. she passed from cancer a few years back. Great song and great singers!
just great....love it just as much now as back then...tv set is also very cool that might also free up the copyright on this vid...taped as you watched.
Brings back memories and boy can they sing. Could remember setting in fron the the TV and seeing my moms and dads feet tapping on the floor. Just a classic time I would love to go back to. These kinda shows puts America Has Talent to same. Wish would could go back to these kinda shows and styles. OH Ya
I'm a 40 year old guy who thinks this song, the Mills Brothers, and Dean Martin are so awesome......even to this day! Everything about this song is so wonderful and it just illustrates perfectly how good things hold up over time and how much of what passes for music and celebrities today is utter garbage!
Dean said Harry Mills was the guy he patterned himself after (even more than Bing).
You'll note during this song Dean actualy puts his arm around Harry and keeps it there. In all nine years of the variety show, Dean never did this with anyone else (not even with his rumored sometime paramour, Petula Clark).
I had this EXACT Tv as a kid. Great Great memory... I've been looking for one for years with no luck..Where did you find or do you know where I might find one.
Keeping those old color TV sets working is nothing short of a labor of love. Seeing this reminds me of the old Admiral color set I got to watch as a child.
Thanks so much for this posting. What else can be said about it? It speaks for itself. Anyone with an ounce of perception can see the love and admiration beaming through the TV and now, through the computer screen.
When i was a kid, my grandparents had an old non working RCA New Vista color roundie console in their dining room. I was always curious to see if it worked, but my grandfather said to leave it alone because it smoked. Probably those shitty paper caps were causing it to smoke. I wish that set still existed today!
@wurly1100 Got that right! Many old round tube sets are still working perfectly. There are even a few of RCA's original 1954 color set, the CT-100 still operating. In fact the CT-100's round 15GP22 picture tube is said to have a richer "technicolor" quality to the color than modern flat panel sets. In fact those old sets make better overall use of the original NTSC color standard than modern sets can deliver.
Thanks. Two of the greatest acts, ever. The Mills Brothers were stellar and inspired others, including the Bee Gees. Very clever way to present this!!! Dean Martin was so darn cool.
I can't wait until a friend of mine drops by again. She is a singer. She even has her own band. She was born in 1924 and "Paper Doll" was the first song she ever did in public. The croud liked it so much, she started singing regular.
When I was listening to rock'n'roll in the '60's, my dad said, "Son, that's not music, THIS is music" as he handed me a "Mills Brothers Greatest Hits" album. My Dad died nearly 20 years ago and he sure was right.
This is what makes YouTube invaluable. Dean spent most of his show goofing off and mugging for the camera, but notice how he plays it straight with the Mills Brothers. It's obvious how much respect he had for them and how much he's enjoying performing with these giants. I understand Dean modeled his style after Harry Mills (the big one on the right).
brings me right back to when i was a kid .i was always getting yelled at for messing with the color on the tv!!! my father would go crazy . thanks for the clip wonderful . and they were great!!!!
