all those man made islands are slowly(actually quite fast it's sand troloollo) washed away by the ocean if u dont dumb more sand into your island I think they become megalomaniac during this city project
@elKingYola The fact that you have never heard about the passport issues means you have never heard anything. It is common knowledge. I work in construction, in Dubai.
@chanctonbury63 the whole world is under crisis. even the super powers of the world. but they never let out the cat. let me clear you about the constructions. previously it was at the maximum speed.doesn't matter how big is the project finished in two or three years of period. it has slow down now, surely not stopped. Also i would like point out here the living standards are high in Dubai. the hard you try you go further. this is a land of opportunities.
@samfrmsl Not any more its not. In my job I talk directly to archtects constructors and the readymix companies, to whom I sell. I have a very clear inside view of what is going on, or not, in this case. Living standards are high in Dubai, but not for construction workers, whose treatment is a disgrace.
@chanctonbury63 it doesn't mean the works stopped because you couldn't sell your products. as far i have seen labors are treated well than any other Gulf country in the region. you can find out how far the Government concern about the safety and health if you visit the UAE labor Law website. may be there are companies who are not abide by the law. for the sake of that you can't blame on Government.
@samfrmsl The Government is responsible being the overall authority. My products go exclusively into piling marine and core concrete. As such, by Government requirement 40% of all concrete poured in Dubai will have my type of product in. Every single structure of any consequence will contain some, so sales are a very good barometer of activity. The price has dropped by 60% over 4 years. As has the price of cement. Locally produced. You have learned something here.
@samfrmsl Also just because a Government says something doesnt make it a fact. You should not be so trusting. What does it prove, if you can prove that lower workers are treated better or the same as any other country in the region?? They are treated like shit in the UAE Bahrain Qatar and Saudi too. However here we are talking about Dubai.
@chanctonbury63 you doesn't make any sense here. i can tell that you are frustrated with your job and couldn't do things like before. so you are blaming the authority. you don't even realize Dubai is a part of UAE !. that really surprised me. we can keep arguing for months. but i don't wanna pull this thing and waste the time yours and mine.
continuing... my point is there is nothing perfect in the so called universe. I'm sure the labors are doing good here. you know why, they are not being robbed by any government officials or politicians or thugs from their earnings like where they come from.
@samfrmsl English may not be your first language or you might just be very stupid. Try to follow the thread. I KNOW DUBAI is in the UAE you Dick. You said that workers were not treated any worse in Dubai than in any other country (or state?) in the region. Along with Qatar, Bahrain and Saudi, The Emirates (INCLUDING DUBAI) I know because I see it day by day, the standard of their treatment is apalling. Now go and waste someonen elses time. I regularly have more intelligent discussions w my dog
@chanctonbury63 you are right my first language is not English. but that doesn't mean what you said is correct. I said UAE cares about ppl better than any other country in the region. And for who you think of yourself you moron. you can't adopt to the place where things are going wrong and tries to release your anger in others. you are nothing but a F...ing Moron.
@samfrmsl It does mean that what I said is correct. I lived IN Dubai and worked IN construction for 12 mths. I have also lived and worked in the same industry in Abu Dhabi and Saudi and the low end construction labourers are treated like shit. Everybody in the industry knows it. It is an open secret. Get used to it.
@chanctonbury63 am dwelling in Dubai too. now you are repeating like a broken tape recorder. as i said before nothing is perfect anywhere. but the thinks are better in Dubai when comparing the region. also you just can't blame only the government when blood sucking managements control the companies. I'm aware that laborers are tread worse in the whole world, not just here.
@samfrmsl Yes I thought you might be from Dubai. Glad you have tape recorders there too. Companies do not make the laws, governments do, and the police and the courts enforce them. Stop making excuses.
I wonder how much Al Makhtoum paid Travelworld to put out this "advertisment"? Its a pack of lies. The place is bankrupt, construction has stopped, `The World` is fast slipping back into the sea. Development has stopped on the palm/s. Thousands upon thousands of housing units are half finished or unsold. The debtors jails are full. The bankrupts that are not in jail have fled leaving houses flats and cars. The place is fucked.
@mimo0noob There is no information in UAE newspapers. They are heavily censored, to keep people like you ignorant. I work in construction. In Dubai. Have done for 6 years. Thank you.
(cont)...virtually non existant. There have been some really awful accidents. Noone knows how many have been injured or killed as the press is heavily censored. There is a rule that says work stops when the temp. hits 50 degrees. Guess what?? The temperature `never` reaches 50 C....When the recession hit employers refused to give them back their passports even when there was no work. They had to beg for food. Is this slavery? If it isnt then its not far off. I do business there but I hate it.
@elKingYola Depends on what you call slavery. Low end constructon workers are brought in on the promise of a wage they are never paid. They get maybe half. They then pay most of that back to the agent for the next 2/3 years to pay for their passage. Their passports are taken from them. They are housed in really shitty accomodation, walled in, out in the desert, often 6 to a room. They must do all their cooking and washing themselves. Health and safety on the construction sites is...(cont)
@mimo0noob the manager of the construcksion black mail them and dont let them drink water they let them sleep on a small room that has 15 people in side

@mhfuXmonsta There is already a version of the lost atlantis continent. Half of which is underwater.. Located at the end of the Palm Islands... In fact, I just won 2 free tickets to go visit atlantis for a full day, with all drinks and food paid for.
man, i coulda gone there this year cuz i got family there, but i didn't. I fuckin regret it, im already planning my vacation for next summer there from now.
@jessica5666 thats rlly not funny, mainly cuz it makes no sense. no1 hates dubai, they haven't hurt anyone in anyway. not a single war in their history. and just cuz their arab doesn't mean they're terrorists.
@jessica5666 Don't you think that killing 500 000 innocent people in Iraq and Afghanistan is enough of a revenge? Al Quida killed 2000 people in USA. STFU racist bitch.
