Many thanks for posting this! I'm no PH fan, however the lyrics were embedded in my brain sometime in the seventies. Not to say this song or PH is no good, just not my preference.
Thanks to you and the internet, I can explore random remembrances and reacquaint myself with something I barely remember.
Great Posting! Thank you...Procul Harum was very entertaining live...and no big "show" just musicians putting down some great grooves with well thought out lyrics. A rarity nowadays...sigh...:-) Thanks again!
I wish I had been born ten years earlier and been around when bands such as Procol,Moody Blues,Jethro Tull, BJH,Floyd etc etc were touring and recording. I can never understand why people dislike this style so much.
@punditpete They do? You mean, teenagers? Teenagers aren't people! lol... Just kidding, just kidding, don't get excited. I like teenagers, everyone should own one! lol Actually, I wish I had been born way in the future, when people finally get their stupid shit together, 'cause we're really screwed up now! lol
I first heard bacon at a frat party in 1976. a band was playing, i was wasted and they played this. I really got into it. Asked the band who it was and the album. Went out and bought grand hotel the next day. Solidly in my top 5 favorite albums.
no way is mick grabham better than robin trower.but he is a very good guitarist and suited the group at the time.b.j.wilson is awesome as always.he had imagination
Ignorant people say too much about the 60´s,trower and mathew fisher, but the idiots just dont know the PH masterpieces from the 70´s,much more mature songs and still great musicians in the band,as the guitarist dave ball or,the organist i forgot the name, who i think does best solos than mathew, and,of course, the great BJ Wilson
PH was always great, but i prefer the PH from the 70´s,yes,i do
back in '73 in the bars in the Pittsburgh, PA area. there was a band....the best bar band I've ever heard, playing amazing tunes, and 'Bacon was one of the highlights along with My Love, Maybe I'm Amazed, Free Ride, Low Spark - and numerous other juicy steaks."Sweet Lightnin'"- that band had a number of 'to be famous' folks, namely: Albritton McClain (Donnie Iris), Pete Hewlett (Eric Carmen, Novo Combo, Billy Joel), and Sid McGinnis ( Letterman/CBS Orchestra). What a band!
This was on heavy rotation of the FM progressive station back in Des Moines,Iowa.
Grand Hotel is one of the best rock albums ever, (and I don't even like most Procol Harum stuff), but this was SO different and the album had this book of these cool illustrations I tore out and hung on the walls.
I agree with the comment about Wilson's solid drumming. In the same league with Bonham, Wilson sits low as a personal preference, as do I. By putting all my weight on my rump, my feet have more leeway for speed and precision. I used very tightly sprung DW foot pedals and can actually pull of double-stroke rolls on my bass drums. You can't do that if your weight is cast on your feet without teetering on the drum stool.
All's cool here rockdrumr429.You have good taste in music. The Beatles seemed to have dug them as well.I noticed that BJ Wilson sits a bit low on the throne- is that a personal preference or does that positioning help w/ what appears /sounds like a more military style?P.s. Thanks for taking the video suggestion the way it was offered-positively. Peace,TumbrelJockey
One of the most solid drummers ever had the pleasure of experiencing live, you picked a good one rd429.Sometimes we all need a little suggestion to kick off the flow- this one is for you. There is a scene in the original Robin Hood w/ Errol Flynn .cool scene where he crashes the Sheriff of Nottingham's banquet & gets in their face by slamming a freshly killed stag right down on the table you take it from there...
@TumbrelJockey Hey, that's great because my idea was to have clips from old movies like what you are suggesting! It may be a while but I'll check it out. Thanks!
@TumbrelJockey : F******* brilliant. "Bringing home the bacon...." tENDER juicy steaks... breast fed baby dumplings, gobbling up the cakes... and cream and all that food. God, I'm hungry.

A very under rated classic PH cut, one of my favorites....it has a very polished sound with a gritty edge.
