They appear to actually be made out of rock slabs (granite) hollowed out, with a "lid" on top (grouted in). The entry point into each chamber is a corner cut out of two or more rocks fitted together. The "filler" of the pyramid is sloppy limerock work. All the chambers and tubes seem to be lined in one manner or another with granite. Granite "wears" better than limerock. The "tubes" are connected corner on corner. Studying the design shows one consistent application connecting all the tubes

According to Chris Dunn the great Giza pyramid was some sort of a power plant. The queens chamber also had an inch of salt surrounding it in the 1800's.

None of the important hieroglyphics are being translated correctly, including King Tut's cartouche, you'd be surprised what it really says.
