Just saw Gino in Windsor Sept 2011 - he still has it! Saw him in Detroit about 10 years ago do this song and he said that the song was about a one night stand that he had in Detroit with a black lady that he met while on tour.
When Gino, sat at his white, grand piano and sang this song, he looked so sexy and sounded so fine, I remember, being temporarily paralyzed and sweating, until the song was over! Lord that Man had it going on !!!
Love this song. Remeber the first time I heard it back in 1977 or 78 at a party. I went and got the album the next day and have been a fan since. Thaks for this posting, its great to hear him live. I was never fortunate enugh to actually get to a concert of his.
I think that note at 1:43 is an insult to Gino Vannelli. He writes big luscious music with one of the best voices in modern music.. He's not just "add a pleasant voice to John Travolta"..
@RMAchello Yes this is from the Prince and Pauper side B. It is the whole back of the record. I don't what is on the CD but it is on my record from the 70's .
Toronto.....saw your 2 Dobermans running around your gated home in Montreal...they are so beautiful...come to visit us sometime...we always miss you...all of us!
Beautiful...I believe he performed this at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto 1977. White outfit, white dry ice mist, and a white grand piano. I'll never forget it!
This was my favourite song on my favourite album of his -- A Pauper in Paradise. I always thought this song must have been inspired by George Gershwin's music. I remember reading that after finishing the recording with the orchestra, they stood up and gave him a standing ovation, recognizing that they had participated in something special.
I remember getting my hands on this album(1978? 79?), playing this, and thinking...holy cow, in this age of glam rock, metal and disco, a young man wrote THIS? FInally, someone posted this so I could hear it again, thanks.
I totally agree with you !!! Thank you for the nice comment, it is nice to find others who feel the same way as I do.....No one will ever come close to him......
the album version of this with the London Symphony is so gorgeous.. check it out. Jazz voicings done by a one of the great symphonies and great artists. Gershwin comes to mind with this tune
Wow this brings me back. I share the same birth year as Gino and his songs define my love life from back in the 70's when I was trying to define myself as a young man with my emotions. I remember all my old LP's that I would just pop on the stereo kick back and get all wound up inside listening to his albums.
You have great taste --I've noticed you're a big Gino Fan---I see you pop up a lot while I search for his videos..--I too am A fan.. thanks for the video
He has always been very talented, much more so than he has been credited for. The songs on "A Pauper in Paradise" are very mature and nuanced vocally and in their composition and arrangement. Gino is terrific! Thanks for posting!
"Blueyesmexico" piensa promoverlo muy pronto aquí en la Ciudad de México con el fin de presentar su concierto para abril de 2009!!!
Necesita de nuestro apoyo para que este sueño se vuelva realidad! Revisen por favor su comentario en el video de "Summers of my Life" de hace casi una semana.
V, I am glad you like it. It is one of my favorites. The song is actually from his album "Pauper In Paradise" which was released in 1977. There are some classical arrangements on that album which are fantastic. I really like this live version the best. See, Gino has a side that a lot of people are not familiar with....
