I just thought about it. Bret Hart was the WWF Champion 5 times each time he lost that title, it was dubious circumstances. He got screwed out of his first title (salt in the eyes) against Yokozuna and then Hogan had his "moment". Secondly, he gets cheated out of the belt at Survivor Series '94 against Bob Backlund in an "Submission Match." HBK needed overtime to end Bret's third reign. Austin cost him his fourth title against Sid and then the Montreal Screwjob.
@eslubin Your right, and because of this interview the brilliant documentary film Hitman Hart Wrestling with Shadows was made. The director Paul Jay, who had a curiosity about wrestling, saw this interview when it aired. He was so aew struck by the sincerity and emotion coming through that he contacted Bret about making a film about his life. There are NO other wrestlers about whom such an artistic protrait could be painted.
@APaulA222 You know in the last chapter of Brets book he said he hasn't spoken to Dynamite after reading his book because of the stuff he says about Stu
The mix of kayfabe with real life attitude is one of the many reasons the Hitman stands out. And yep, Bret never lost the world title in a fair and square battle.
WM IX - Fuji throws salt in his eyes.
Survivor Series '94 - Owen tricks Helen into throwing the towel.
WrestleMania XII - no further comments necessary. Overtime. Bleah.
Monday Night RAW - February 16, 1997 - Bret losed the world title to Sycho Sid, due to outside interference by Steve Austin.
I just commented on that on here also. Bret was the very best in the WWF and he got screwed more than once. And then WcW didn't know what to do with him. I mean, first thing I would have done, is put Bret Hart against that coward Hulk Hogan and let him beat the holy Hell out of Hogan.
I have a question...why does Bret Hart act as if he doesn't know what's going on? As if he didn't know that it was going to go to overtime...he acts as though it was a real fight that wasn't scripted...why does he do that??
@VitalSigns1 That's what made him so amazing! You really felt his character's pain. It SEEMED...so REAL!! Stone Cold could do that too but after Bret Hart left, that incredible charisma left too. Guys like Bret really capture your heart because you can SEE HIM through the character.
@moneysuccesslegacy Well I know I mean I love Bret I just wasn't sure if he was actually being serious or not. He must be a really good actor then, because I honestly can never tell when he's doing a shoot interview or doing a scripted one in character.
They only showed a sample of the full interview in this Raw episode. They showed more of it on WWF Mania and the Action Zone later in the week and I wish I could watch it again. That's harder to find :(

Bret should be thankful he lost the title to Shawn. That loss lead to one of the greatest rivalry's of all time....Bret vs Steve Austin.

@Dan97LHS That only proves one thing; you have to screw him, to be able to beat him otherwise he's unbeatable

Was this a work? Was the whole 60 min iron man match set up, or did Bret think it was going to end when it originally did?
