It says 1861-1865 I have a book that has nothing but pictures from the Civil War which was Bradys Civil War. Back then when they set up to take pictures it took a long time as they hand to use camera stands and they did not have the technology that they have to do. It was instant. My great-great grandfather was from the south, but went to Ind. and joined a Union Calvary outfit and ended the war as a Captain. Capt. James Sperry... there after called Capt. Jim. He passed away around 1903

This should be titled "The war of Northern Agression" and anyone one who really believes it was about slavery needs to do a little reserch. About 6% of the southern families had ever owned slaves. Some of that 6% were black families. Makes you wonder what the other 94% were fighting for. Just food for thought.

I have a number of Youtube friends who upload music from 1920s and 1930s dance bands, and they create a photo album to accompany the music. Can you imagine, some of this music is still under copyright after 80 years? You're lucky that your video is still here, because my friends' videos were completely taken down and some of them lost their accounts.

Do they pick on certain people only? Who knows why really. i was warned twice. So for now on I am very careful. It seems like the news like Larry King Live and CNN seems to be safe.

My great-great grandfather was from the south, but went to Ind. and joined a Union Calvary outfit and ended the war as a Captain. Capt. James Sperry... there after called Capt. Jim. He passed away around 1903

This should be titled "The war of Northern Agression" and anyone one who really believes it was about slavery needs to do a little reserch. About 6% of the southern families had ever owned slaves. Some of that 6% were black families. Makes you wonder what the other 94% were fighting for. Just food for thought.

My ancestors were poor farmers in Virgina who didn't have slaves, and yet all six of the sons fought for the south, including my great-great-great-grandfather who was only 14 -- my age, yikes! -- when he enlisted in 1862

That is actually where I was born, but unfortunately we don't live there anymore. :'( We're in New York state because of my dad's job and I HATE it here. I too have left Old Virginia. I had to leave in the 90's to find work. I moved south and like it here, but still get homesick sometimes. I dont know Lincolns plans for reconstruction, thats true. I will try to learn what those were.
But the South SHOULD have had a much harder time. The plantations should have been given to the slaves that worked them - or sold, and the money given.
The leaders should have been tried for treason.
The South got off absurdly easy for the shit they did.

jesse james was living in Missouri just before the war and was involved in the bloody border "war" with free-soil settlers in Kansas. nicknamed "dingus" from his childhood he enlisted for the south
and later joined the irregular and un- sanctioned southern Guerilla band of W C Quantrill (Quantrill's raiders) and took part in at least 3 murders.
After the war he remained a fugitive with his brother Frank and The "younder gang" robbing banks etc.

Look up Fielding Hurst. He was a slave owner from Tennessee, but he led a company of Union Sympathizers.
He was the original American terrorist. He burned down the cities of Purdy and Jackson, Tennessee.
He severed the heads of Confederate soldiers and put them on posts to intimidate General Forrest.
He is so hated to this date in McNairy County, Tn.
In the 50's his body was dug up, hung from a tree, and shot full of bullets.
They moved his grave to Mt. Gilead

before my dad died a few years back he had quite a collection of civil war artifacts guns/bayonets.. medical kits .. belt buckles a bible that actually stopped a bullett .. and tons of tin types .. he would have loved to see all the information readily available on the web.. i remember he would set up 2 manaquiens down a hall way at our home with red lights shining on them all nite .. when i was little i was scared 2 death 2 walk past the hall on my way 2 bathroom .. especially at nite .. If the War was truely about freeing the slaves as so many wrongly believe....
Wouldnt it have made a lot more sense to just simply BUY the slaves, and then set them free?
It would've cost a lot less than an invasion, and a lot fewer deaths.
Every other nation managed to end slavery without a civil war.
But alas.. the North invaded because the South had left the union.

The British could not give open support to the South because of the Confederates stand on slavery. By 1861 Britain had abolished slavery in all of her empire (one third of the territory of the world) and had also adopted a military stance against European countries that still practised slavery.
If the South had abolished slavery we might now have two countries with America in their title.

did you know that the most successful naval ship in the civil war was the southerners css albama, it was an amazing ship destroying almost anything in front of it. And this ship was a british ship given to the confederate by the british. during the war the confederate tryed many attempts to make the british to join the war on their side because they knew if they could do this they would have certain victory

about 60,000 died in vietnam
120,000 in ww1
450,000 in ww2
and 635,000 in the civil war.

the civil war wasn't fought over slavery but over the states rights and for independence for the south.

As far is I know it basically broke out because of economical reasons, but I cannot understand, why Southern states didn't want to unite in one nation? How did people think that black people don't deserve the same rights as whites and it's normal forcing them to work in slavery?:-S
At the end the 20th century USA couldn't keep its izolationist politics anymore so Southern states needed to be unite in one nation.

I suggest you read a little more about the Civil War before you make a comment. It was about much more than just slavery. If you can't discuss an issue, just "throw the race card".
