  • Well I am a Veteran, and had intended to be laid to rest with my Brothers in Arms. But its pretty apparent from this video that I may need to rethink that, unless the Government starts hiring some Competent and Compassionate Cemetery Directors!!!

  • My father, Eugene Harry Schoner is buried there. What a disgrace. I will write the caretakers about this. I hope that this situation has been corrected.

  • I gather there were no burial vaults to prevent cave-in?

  • My Wifes Father is buried there. what the hell is going on. these men are fucking HEROES! the authorities should hang their heads in SHIT!

  • @markylad69 men and women

  • wow, this is sad, I remember being interviewed by FOX when they were in the process of doing this and how I was against this. It's not that hard to grow grass there. Very disrespectful to show our lack of pride for this once very beutiful cemetary.

  • very sad to see this in a place of peace.

  • I had an uncle I never knew buried there and he died in 95

  • no man or woman who goes through what we do in hellish countries deserves a shitty mud grave.. i will not be burried there, it will be in my wil that im somewere beautiful not in shitt fucking el paso

  • I don't know what compelled me to look up Ft. Bliss & that's when I came across this. When the floods hit EP a few years ago, Mt. Carmel Cemetary was the only one that was mentioned in the media. Why weren't the families notified about this? I am 30yrs old & not only are my paternal grandparents & my maternal grandmother buried there, but my mother is buried there as well. It is going on 16yrs since she passed and my daughter & I used to love having picnics there. Now, its such an eyesore.

  • Shameful!

  • it will take alot of money to fix the ground and the its a bad timing there are no funds.......I would fix the place but I am strap of cash fixing up an old grave yard also times are tough

  • All my family members are buried here. I wonder which Bush administration whiz kid came up with this hare-brained scheme.

  • Why do you think Bush's administration had anything to do with it? El Paso has one of the most corrupt and useless city governments I've ever seen, blame the city not some scape goat. This is El Paso's problem, the citizens of this worthless city blame everyone but themselves.

  • @WeTheReckoning This is a aNATIONAL cemetary and is the responsibility of the federal government, not the city. It's important that the right people hold the responsibility for this atrocity so that we don't waste time chasing the wrong parties to get it rectified!

  • I am PISSED OFF I was not aware of this tragedy!!! My GRANDFATHER is buried there why were the families not informed

This is disrepectful and a compete disgrace to our loved one who fought for our Freedom ...........Thank You for bringing this to light I am personally taking a trip to see what damage is done to my grandfathers grave

  • @sarahfranco79

Same here Sarah, my father is buried there and we were never informed.

  • @sarahfranco79 my grandfather is buried at fort bliss as well from the photos it looks like it hit where my grandfather is buried i hope nothing happened to his grave.... after seeing this i will raise hell with all reps, city council, and others

  • There is no honor in disrespecting the heros of the dead.

  • The sad part is that i'm stationed at FT. bliss and had no idea this cemetary was such a mess. Isn't there something we could do to raise money to have the graves fixe and have grass put back in. It's th least we can do for them and there fmilies

  • this is a shame and a disgrace, no doubt about it. some people had to fix something that wasn't broken to begin with. some pet cemeteries look better than this.

  • So very sad.

  • this is terrible. i am so sorry for all the people who have loved ones buried there. it is a disgrace. It shows that our nation doesn't care about its dead especially the ones who died fighting for it. Thank you for the upload I had no idea

  • its sad to see this happen on such a grand scale. but i just wanted to say that with or without grass; graves tend to settle. usually right after heavy rains like this. most city cemeteries require a vault, a protective covering usually made of cement to go over and around a casket to prevent such things.

  • my grandpa is bburied there and it is sad to see his cemetary in this condition. It is a national disgrace

  • its true!! my hubby is buried there! can you imagine how it feels to see this? his final resting place is not pretty. i love him and when he was buried he had pretty grass. not no more. all his iraq war vets graves look like that. i cant explain how bad it looks. really

  • That sucks that that happened. I have family that are buried there. Some point many others.

  • There are some Australians Geoff Lawton based on work by Bill Mollison who question the validity of the drain and channel philosophy. Geoff can green desert with 6" of rain a year. Not grass but at least green. The thing is that the water that goes on the grounds does all just evaporate much of it moves underground and can be reused. Drainage is bad - Infiltrate that rain. Plant Olive and fruit trees. Xeriscaping is about native plantings that live in that region. Gravel? Crooks!

  • Please visit MyThreeBoysTX update to the cemetary's condition. Heartbreaking!

  • Hi, you posted a comment on my blog about this. Thanks for making this video. Yes, it makes my stomach turn. I will share your video with others; this should be a public outcry and I am surprised at how little attention it has gotten.

    Thanks again,

    Lynn

  • blame the piece of shit mayor in ep for this!

  • Just too sad for words.

  • Is this wanted ou soliders died for? They did not die to be treated like garbage! they died defendingthie freedom of this country! Every one should remember that freedom is not free and they died for that freedom!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is a disgrace to El Paso,TX. Who actually mispent all that money. All the young men and women joining the military or even thinking about it should see this and protest.

  • I live in EP and have family burried at Ft Bliss. This place that is supposed to be hallowed, sacred ground to honor the County's bravest souls has become a vile, disturbing site. The conservation "reasoning" is great in theory-however, why, is the Ft Bliss golf course (directly accross the road) still a lovely shade of green? This needs attention so that proper respect is brought back to those that rest there.

  • Can someone explain the actual reason why the ground associated with these graves in the desert caved in? What process causes that? Why has there been an issue with local water supply? What are the details? What possibilities can be expected in the future?

    Thank you.

  • If you search the cemetary, you'll find lots of news articles about this. The problem is outrageous....here are the explanations for this occurance:

...officials said one reason for the reoccurring problem is that the cemetery was not designed with a drainage system. They said the cemetery is in a relatively dry location. Grass was removed from the cemetery and replaced with xerascaping, as a means of cutting down on the high cost of water...

  • However, if you knew there was no drainage system, why remove the grass that helped with the issue? This cemetary is just so sad....

  • @mason104 what happens is when a person is buried they have to put a cover over the coven this cover helps support the sand and keeps the top soil from caving in.... but when you do not put this cover the sand gets under the coven and causes the top soil to cave in like it did here

  • @mason104 I live here in El Paso - one of my grandfathers is actually buried in this very cemetery. The reason the ground caves in is because El Paso is built on fucking sand.. It's very dry, high elevation, and rain doesn't fall too often. But when it does fall, if it comes down for long enough, the ground pretty much starts turning to quick sand. Some of the streets get ugly potholes after severe rainfall. I do remember when this cemetery used to have grass though..

  • please also contact your senator or house representative. every little bit helps as this is a never ending problem that was exacerbated by the removal of the grass. it cost nearly $50,000 to "fix" and rebury 400 graves this summer. it will probably cost that much again next year. please email.

  • My father is at Fort Bliss. It is a disgrace that this is how those who served so honorably are remembered. Thank you for bringing this to the attention of others.
