I like the background and the clothes. Delivery is right on as always. Although I dont think it will bridge the gap between believers and non-believers, I feel it comes close to giving new and personal perspective on a very old stand off. Over all I think its a good use of your credit in addressing an important subject succinctly.
The difference between the Christians and me is that they write about hell and have never seen it. I was there in 1968. They write about heaven without a clue, but I've married 4 women who had a combined net worth of 25 million. And I'm proud to say that each was more than glad to give up a tidy sum to get rid of my sorry ass. Now that's heaven. 5*

@MustangSaIIy - now some thought went into that comment! I've been wondering if you were still around youtube... have a good 2010 and all that crap! :P
@Poemsapennyeach -- what counts the most to me is your talent at poetry. Thanks for mentioning the lighting.. I've been worried I might be over-doing it a bit. Peace out! :P
I'm constantly amazed by the sheer stupidity which folks let pass for a foundation for their thinking... If thre's a hell, it'll be peopled by a bunch of surprised sonofabitches.
To quote another famous atheist: "God is a concept by which we measure our pain."
Elvira: That was ME that cut you off... you were hogging the road and driving like a brat--I had no choice! :P --- have a good 2010 ya little sweetheart you! :)
I like the ending this poem. It's strange though, how strongly religion and atheism are imbeded in the US psyche. Here, to have strong views and mention religion at work or at a party is social suicide. Instead we have a generic sort of God who people follow, or not, how they please and who is, of course, British.
I'm a fundamentalist and not a universalist, but the whole idea of the afterlife is still pretty vague.
I always go back to the religion I grew up with. It pretty much boils down to I'm evil (which I am) and I can't save myself from it. I'm a freethinker enough in other areas.
Mr. Curtis always has style. "And it goes like this..."
This is sure to offend a person of any faith. Ironically, they don't seem to see the offensiveness of their own. Paradoxical, don't you think.......heavy sigh
"Evangelist, n.: A bearer of good tidings, particularly (in a religious sense) such as assure us of our own salvation and the damnation of our neighbours."
~ Ambrose Bierce, The Devil´s Dictionary, 1911
I'd say 'God' is a trick deck of cards -- a tool used for personal gain by fooling & deceiving the credulous and undereducated into believing in magic and the absurd.
No, it wasn't Mary Poppins. Many of us also educated have watched Mary Poppins as well and yet align ourselves with reality as best our collective species can understand it through consensus and empirical evidence. That atheists are the reason there's reason in the world is the only means by which so many others get by with their credulity, spending a good portion of their consciousness in a confused dream-like fantasy realm of supernatural poppycock, and yet not utterly destroy themselves.
I spend TON of time in a dream-like fantasy realm. I call it G-rated shock value world. I claim to access it through drug-free hallucinations, but it's really just imagination. G-rated shock value is extremely dangerous though, so you're right about it being a wonder that I haven't been destroyed by it yet.
I got nothing against technology or science or consensus or empirical evidence. I just tend to like fantastical things with no overt purpose as well .
Haha, LOVE it! Starting to go back and check out past poems of yours I missed. I love how you delivered this one too. Perfect. :)
