Ohmygoodness I attempted to make something like this on my own (with help from studio friends) months ago and felt like I was guessing, and not sure where to go from there. I particularly like this video because you demonstrate what to do when you've cut too close to the join. That is the part I really botched. I'm going to have to go back and try again!! Thank you for your wonderful videos. So generous of you to share!
Is it normal for clay to form a "sandy" feel when throwing them? The clay that my school uses (stoneware) gets a really nasty sandy feel when throwing that bugs me and I was wondering if that was normal or not.
@15commandments yeah my school uses similar clay with a lot of small rocks. When I use recycled clay from the pug mill it has a lot more than when I use stuff straight from the bag.
OMG that was great. I can't wait to put my own spin on it. You are always good to get someone thinking of different ways of doing things. I was burned out of throwing but you got my mojo going again. THANKS
Very nice! From my failures it seems you need even thickness -top to bottom, must bring your fingers in at about 45 deg to the belly...and a lot of "practice".
Very neat! There's a potter named Robert Briggs here who does 'Pilgrim's bottles' that are really similar, except he puts lugs for a shoulder strap on them - canteen style. Can't put links here, but search for 'pottery pod pilgrim's bottle' for his video
Not a bad idea at all. You can chose where you put the hole. This became very pleasant because of the almost triangle shape when you see it from the side. Broad at the base and thinner on top. Like it a lot. Thanks
Simon, Thank You so much for the new great idea. I would throw a double wall and the made the vaes ...but this looks like a great way and easier way to get the same results. U r GREAT Thank U again!!! Pam In NC
Wow that's cool Simon, you make it look so easy;-) Hope I can do it too;-) I'll send you a photo or maybe I can get my video camera going.......... maybe? Thanks Karen
Simon, That's delightful! Great Modern Look. I am going out to wheel and try to make one. I think layered clay could enhance it even more. Looks like it must be thrown evenly and clay must be perfect

Thank you for sharing, the hole could be moved to one side to form somewhat of a handle and a lip added to have a jug.

Thanks for showing us another way of making/creating...what a treat watching you handling the clay...and that wedging maneuver...
put your left foot in
put your left foot out
put your left foot in
and shake it all about
do the spiral wedging
and turn the clay around
thats what its all about...!!
