And Snake, from MGS onwards (in the first two Metal Gears he smoked Luckys) doesn't ever smoke a distinguishable brand of cigarette. Kojima hates cigarettes and smoking and doesn't like to encourage people to smoke, Snake smokes because he's an anti-hero and that's their typical characteristic (Compare Clint Eastwood as the Man With No Name)
