What is the differences from the 520 and the 500? I know the drive is bigger on the 520 but is that all? And is it worth the extra $300? Does the 520 have better low light capability or does the 500 have the exact same lens and video capture abilities?
I have the SR12 myself, and have never found the 120 gig HD to be too small, and it has the much better Carl Zeiss lens, which has been dropped on this new model. Don't be too sad ;)
Although, better low light performance, and better anti shake abilities are pretty cool. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it though.
you seem to be an expert with sr12 camcorder. can i ask you a few question? I've recorded over 60GB of footage during my vacation. Right now i'm using premiere pro cs4. I would love to export my footage out of ppro w/o loosing abit quality, so now i'm using ProRes422 as my export codec(I have windows vista too). The reason i'm not using Final cut pro because of the log and transfer and the fact that it downgrades 5.1 sound to stereo. I would also like to convert the sr12 60i to 24p within ppro.
I won't use pro to change 60i to 24p without a plugin. It's called "Magic Bullet Frames". Otherwise, you will loose much quality of the 60i record. it costs around 200$. But it really does the job. Perfect quality on 24p. You can convert from 60i aswell from any other format. I bought it. it's amazing.
Moerover it de-interlace your footage. Since you have a sr12, that's a very cool feature for you and will give your footage the final touch.
i think the camera could do without the gps shit.....its not really that important and we dont want to pay an extra $500 on shit like that
