Man I can't help but picture Sauron as he appeared at the start of the Fellowship of the Ring movie (maybe with blood smeared on his armour) kneeling before this even taller black shape sitting lazily on a throne! Awesome track!
The "black one" is the dragon Ancalagon the Black, known as the largest of all dragons. It died in the battle at Angbad and crashed down upon the peak of Thangorodrim, which apparently destroyed the mountain as well as the dragon. It was the fiercest of Morgoth's minions.
It's cool to actually hear Sauron and Morgoth's last conversation together. It sort of gives us a better look at their personalities and relationship.
@Blorgize If you don't like Tolkien, you can definitely still enjoy most of their songs. But if you don't like dragons, magic, fantasy, sci-fi, or European history, you'd best go back to Slipknot and Linkin Park or (God help you) rap.
as far as I know sauron was an elf and always where, his armor make him look like a demon, but he was still an elf. Maybe a little bit more like the orcs, still orcs are elfs who changed cause they where tormented with dark magic.
Sauron was a Maia, a kind of angelic spirit. Sauron, Gandalf, Saruman, and the Balrogs were all Maiar.
Sauron was corrupted by Morgoth. He originally could change his form, which is how he approached the elves later on to teach them the crafting of Rings of Power.
Sauron lost this ability to assume forms when his physical form was destroyed along with Numenor. After that he could only take the form of a Dark Lord.
Gandalf and Saruman where Wizards: that is, incarnate Maiar, in the form of elder men. Gandalf was the manifestation of Olorin and Saruman the one of Curumo (curiously, a Maia close to Aule, just like Sauron). The Balrogs where tormented Maiar, corrupted by Melkor so they could take that monstruos, demonic form.
@AslanCross That's one of the reasons I got so annoyed at the scene in Return of the King where Gandalf the white gets his ass knocked to the ground by the Witch King and his staff is smashed to to pieces. There's no way, Gandalf spends days on a mountain fighting off a Balrog and kills it...I don't know that he would necessarily WIN (it never really says, the Witch King flies off before anything happens), but there's no way a Maiar of Ea would just get owned like that by a man, wraith or not
@ZarathustrasCrown I'm not entirely certain; at least to the last statement. I also think that the WK vs GandyWhite would be pretty even, but there are tough men out there. One of Tolkien's letters said that Isildur could have taken Elrond 1v1, and Hurin defeats Glaurung, Bard defeats Smaug. Men are pretty tough in Tolkien's world.
After Luthien defeated Sauron at Tol Sirion, Sauron fled to Taur-nu-Fuin and filled it with dread. He feared being punished by Morgoth, and I don't think he ever left that part of Middle Earth during the first age, and ever returned to serve Morgoth at Angband. And besides, if he really was by Morgoth's side during the War of Wrath, why were the Valar able to seek & destroy Morgoth, but not Sauron? Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't think he was by his side when this happened.
Soory, I didn't read the end of your comment correctly... It's never stated whether he was beside Morgoth during the War of Wrath, but Voronwe summoned all Noldor and Maia (everyone who defied the Valar) and asked them to return and be judged, Sauron was afraid that he would get locked in the Void with Morgoth so he declined and fled.
I swear one of those two speakers is from Man about the house and George and Mildred.

is the picture supposed to be luthien dancing in front of morgoth?

Jep, it is. You can see Beren in wolf-shape lying right of Morgoth, also glowing a bit.
Colindo 2 years ago 3
@Colindo Beren never took wolf shape. He had a talking dog if that helps.

Did Sauron still have a human form when he was with Morgoth at that point?
Lamporre 2 years ago 2
sauron was basically supposed to be a god, he could change his shape like every other god
Dyz7 2 years ago 2
Not after the destruction of Numenorian homeland, he lost his ability to keep a fair form and only the "evil" look remained.
