A good way to make the NHS "leaner" would be to get rid of all the privateers leeching off this public service: the fat cat pharmaceutical companies making vast profits out of people's ill health. These bloodsuckers should be taken into public ownership and incorporated into the NHS. The PFI (Pay For Indefinitely) schemes that syphon off public health money into the pockets of the bankers. I applaud Michael Moore for having the courage to challenge these people, but if you've noticed, the Healthcare Industry have unleased their lobbyist and attack dogs to discredit his efforts to bring needed reform.

One point missed in the video ... when doctors are not wasting time with hand-offs, diagnosing and treating folks with minor issues ... they can focus on the patients who are severely injured or sick. Lean is about taking critical resources from non value added activities and moving them to value added ones. The Fast Track process is used in a number of ER's across the US very successfully.
Makes perfect sense. Most people who present to A&E shouldn't even be there. The majority of issues are minor. By taking these people out of the mainstream it frees up consultants etc to deal with the real emergencies. What is utter nonsense is the system that is normally used where highly trained staff see all people presenting to A&E and spend the majority of their time dealing with cuts, bruises and sprained ankles. What a waste of their time and taxpayers money.

This comment completely misses the point. The process 'adds value' to the patient so that waste (i.e. waiting) is reduced.
