Thanks for making this , it was amazing , finally a list that doesn't doesn't suck, and thanks for all your hard work , must have take forever, major kudos !!!!!
Actually @gearsssofwarrr, you are way too far into Nirvana! Get your head out of their ass! IF YOU KNEW OF ALTERNATIVE MUSIC THEN YOU WOULD KNOW OF THE PIXIES! WHO HAVE BEEN AROUND SINCE THE 80'S! WHERE IS MY MIND WASN'T MADE BECAUSE OF FIGHT CLUB! IT HAS BEEN AROUND SINCE THE 80'S. SO YEA BUDDY. GRUNGE DIED SHORTLY AFTER KURT COBAIN. SAD STUFF BUT NIRVANA DIDN'T SPAWN MUCH IN MUSIC THAT WASN'T ALREADY THERE. SURE GRUNGE, BUT THAT'S ABOUT IT!
While I personally don't like Smells like teen spirit, I understand its place in Alternative/Grunge musics role. This was an amazing list, way more time and energy than I EVER could of mustered up. And this list was HIS favorites, not yours! Only thing I personally disagree with was Hunger Strike (similar to smells like teen spirit, it has its role in the evolution) While Im not a Nirvana fan, i am a music fan and can appreciate their part in creating a genre. Thank you very much for your effort
This is NOTHING!.. everywhere you can heard this, even TARZAN and MOWGLI in the jungle singing this kind of song,.ha!ha! only you know this? so sad! how about de 90's FORGOTTEN bands? Check my page dude!...
So... when I was a kid, I HATED Bittersweet Symphony. I'm not sure why, since it's not really a BAD song per say, I just hated it. I remember changing the channel anytime it came on. And when it came on this list, I actually reflexively reached for the remote control. (Not the back button, the remote control!)
@stevepartlow dont dis Kurt would have wanted that they were going to go on a consert together but kurt killed himself they were great friends as rem would have wanted kurt to be in first place too
i agree with a lot of the comments. i liked 90 percent of these songs so it is a good general list, but the ranking was questionable. it is his opinion though and i respect that.
Let me get this straight, a whole list of alternative songs from the 90's......158 songs....not ONE SONG from A Perfect Circle??? Really??? nothing from staind? slipknot? disturbed?
I thought your opinion of the list was alternative in itself isnt that why we listen to this kind of music quit bitchin ppl its music bunch of fuckin trolls man
There should be a lot more soundgarden in this list, to be fair...... take out all the bullshit bands no ones heard of next time you make a video please.
@evanhub40 Funny, I distinctly remember every single one of those bands... as they were pretty much on the forefront. I don't really care for the ranking - but to argue about it is moronic, and possibly misses completely the point some acts were pushing since their inception..
If anything I can't stand some (Namely soundgarden AND nirvana) and upon hearing them induces nausea. Not really :P But they are far from my favorites. I could live another decade without hearing another song of theirs.
Decent list, but here's a few things. 1. Smells Like Teen Spirit is #1...always will be. 2. Missed a lot of notable songs: Killing in the Name: Rage Against the Machine This is a Call: Foo Fighters My Hero: Foo Fighters Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)- The Offspring The Kids Aren't Alright- The Offspring Lithium- Nirvana Californication: RHCP just a few there. Solid list, but there was some forgettable garbage (no pun intended) on there that could've been replaced
thumbs the fuck up if u think this idiot was born in 2005 yes making him/her 6 years dumb and googled up a fucken list of songs from the 90s ahhh fuck asshole
I was waitin for REM. I definiitely wouldn't have put it first, for sure. But definitely on the list, top ten-ish. You started stronger than you finished, imo. But otherwise a great list and memory of my childhood :D
you put Pearl Jam as #16 and #27, seriously???? No way you were around in the 90s, maybe in diapers. I almost lost if when I saw that the verve & depeche mode was in your top 10. dont get me wrong, i like rem, but to put them as #1, you were way off. sorry man, but your list sucks!
@gearsssofwarrr I see why you would say that as a fan (I am too). I think people put it up so high sine it was the single that catapulted them to the top and is credited as pretty much obliterating the mainstream crap that was out at the time. I see where you're coming from though buddy. Believe me I do.
@gearsssofwarrr You sir are an idiot. If smells like teen spirit wasn't created we wouldn't have heard of half the bands on this list. It DEFINATELY deserves to be in the top ten (Number one in fact). It was that single song that brought alternative music to mainstream music. It changed music videos from there on out. Put MTV on the map (when Mtv was cool). It fueled a generation of angst filled teens. Plus its still one of the best songs ever created then and even now. "true nirvana fan" hahah
@blindgardenjam I watched the first part of the video and then looked at the comments. When initially looking at your name, I thought you were saying you're a fan of Third Eye Blind, Savage Garden, and Pearl Jam. I was going to comment that the first two bands dont really go with the third. However I then shook the cobwebs out and realized you were cool and dont listen to shit. Good on ya.
@blindgardenjam No, it should not. Smells Like Teen Spirit was initially written as a joke. There were so many angsty teen rock songs out before Smells like teen spirit anyways. All that song did was help the kids too stupid too actually pay attention to anything to find them. For example Sonic Youth, R.E.M, Husker Du and The Replacements. Also, R.E.M is the band that helped this music gain popularity, Nirvana just followed in their success.
@blindgardenjam Dude you are a dipshit. Just because it is mainstream doesn't mean its good. There are many many many many many songs better than smells like teen spirit. You are going to disagree with me because that is your opinion. Which is all it is and all it ever will be, not a proven fact. This was this persons opinion why can't you respect that. I don't see you making a video based on your opinions. All you do is post witty comments thinking everything you type is correct
@blindgardenjam MTV was cool when MTV actually played video's, not when Kurt Cocaine and Nirvana hit the scene, silly girl. Yea, would most certainly wanted to been around annoying angst teens, look at the generation now, guess we should be blaming teen pregnancy into that category for having stupid children because of Nirvana shouldn't we? lol
@gearsssofwarrr Are you kidding me? First of all, had "smells like teen spirit" not come out, 90% of "true Nirvana fans" wouldn't have known who they are. Just because it wasn't one of Kurt's faves, does not mean it isn't deserving of top ten in a list dedicated to the 90's..Second, Lithium? Really? If you were going to choose another song, why would you choose one from the same "pop" inspired album??
Ok, so... you totally had me with this list until the top 10. Depeche Mode? In the top 10, really? What about Better than Ezra? Sneaker Pimps? Blind Melon? Third Eye Blind? Eve 6? Blink 182? No??? I realize these are your faves, but you really had me going until the top 10.
I still clicked "like" though... thanks for putting this together.
@MrSinginging - you're not the only one... I don't like U2 or REM either.
This shit absolutely fucking sucks... Really.. Really..Really No.... You dont even have alice in chains or pearl jam in the top ten or any creed what the hell...
I agree with everything on here but the last three. For number 3, U2's just really overrated in my opinion. For number 2, SLTS is one of Nirvana's... lesser songs (and this is coming from a hardcore fan; something along the lines of All Apologies would've been nice). Number one is a really good song, but I think others could've filled the position. Either way, this was a great list :D
@EddieNeverSleeps No, it's not, it's from 1991. And since you obviously didn't know, but just mindlessly typed the first things that popped in your head, please exercise restraint in the future.
Most this shit ain't alternative, was good to hear a couple good songs that I had forgotten though. But Depche Mode, U2, Third Eye Blind as alternative? Fack no.
@daemonCoy27 Oh boy, these comments are all so ridiculous. Everything on this playlist was deemed "alternative" when it came out, and yes, "grunge" was definitely considered a subgroup of alternative music. Saying grunge is different than alternative is like saying heavy metal is different than rock. Since most of you were probably still in your diapers in the 90's, how about not criticizing every single thing on the internet and making yourself look like idiots?
I'm sad at the #1, I was expecting Nirvana or someone other that REM, Rage against the Machine, Pearl Jam, heck why not THE NOTORIOUS B.I.G :P *shrugs* I love the list of songs though. So over all, a Thumbs up :D
Worst fuckin list I have ever seen main!! Your top 10 is all messed up(my opinion) should have went 10: Soundgarden, Black Whole Sun 9:Godsmack, Keep Away 8: Alanis, you outta know 7:Rage Against, gurilla radio(turn that shit up lol) 6: Radiohead, creep 5: Korn, Freak on a Leash 4: Live, lightning Crashes 3:Filter, Nice Shot 2:Alice in Chains, Man in the Box 1: NIRVANA, TEEN SPIRIT, thats THE greatest song of the 90's not just in rock but every-fuckin thing main!!
Worst fuckin list I have ever seen main!! it was good until you got to the top 10...i would not select those out of all 90s as my top 10. Alanis morisette should of been WAY back...same with depeche mode. But hey... its your list. where was NIN hurt? or any days of the new, creed, metallica...since korn is making alternative lists...etc.etc etc..i can go on and on. but i gotta admit, you brought back some good memories with your countdown. good stuff.
Nice list but you had too many people with 4 or 5 songs, missed bands like urge overkill, lush, mudhoney, throwing muses, pixies, belly, Liz Phair, dinosaur jr, lemon heads, etc; you missed a lot
Glad to see that you didn't make Nirvana Smells like Teen Spirit #1.. That song always seems to be #1 on everyone's list!! You didn't follow the heard

Alanis morisette huh? You suck. Why don't you throw up driveshaft while you're at it.
h76787982 6 months ago
great choice for number 1
goozbaghali 6 months ago
it was good until you got to the top 10...i would not select those out of all 90s as my top 10. Alanis morisette should of been WAY back...same with depeche mode. But hey... its your list. where was NIN hurt? or any days of the new, creed, metallica...since korn is making alternative lists...etc.etc etc..i can go on and on. but i gotta admit, you brought back some good memories with your countdown. good stuff.

Nice list but you had too many people with 4 or 5 songs, missed bands like urge overkill, lush, mudhoney, throwing muses, pixies, belly, Liz Phair, dinosaur jr, lemon heads, etc; you missed a lot
ksoundkrew 6 months ago
Cool list, but what happened to Rico Suave?
MrSerdelag 6 months ago
