i had this game dont make sense, if you fall off high platforms you die, if you fall off even higher platforms sometimes you dont die, and why 1 life?
@rainxxxx 1 life because you get 1 life in life. So why not? Plus it makes the game brutal. As for the falling platforms, you only die if you hit something, like a flame. But the death would only happen once you land, so if you jump off something and pass through a flame, you wouldn't die there, but when you landed, making it look like you died from the jump.
@rainxxxx No, I didn't mean they were making it like real life (I think the walking egg puts that out straight away). I was just saying life has 1 life, so why not a game? Makes it insanely brutal. Maybe you did get more lives on the other versions. The Atari version didn't.
can someone tell me something ive been wanting to find out for the last 15-20 years what did u have to do on this game, i used to play it load but never knew what you had to do lol
@marklewisbcfc The point of the game was to escape Treasure Island; if you passed through the water on the right of the starting point, and over the next island, you eventually come to a pirate, who'll agree to take you off the island, in exchange for gold coins (26, I think). So then you had to go back and find all of the coins.
@Paar86 I think I probably used my emulator to output a sequence of still images, whilst also outputting the audio to a file, and then I put them together in VirtualDub. Or maybe I just used Fraps! I can't remember.
Could never find that final gold coin though. Got the boat, got to the guy at teh end, but that final 30th coin was no where. Even used cheats to get onto the loading screen and explored that, but nothing.
Agreed; The ST's sound chip was more restrictive, and not as instantly pleasing on the ear as the Amiga's, but there are quite a few game soundtracks that just seem to work better in their ST incarnations.
@MrHeli Thats right. The music for blood money sounds better than the amiga version and also checkout my amiga v st captain dynamo, you;ll hear the musics better and better suited to the st than amigas.
This theory has one fatal flaw: the Amiga has absolutely no problem in recreating music which sounds identical to the Atari ST. After all, it's just bloody square waves, even with fixed pulse width! A C64, NES and Game Boy easily outperforms the ST.
The Amiga version of Dizzy is done in the same minimalist style as this. Only this time, the square waves have *gasp gasp* variable pulse width!
Too fancy for the ears of Atari ST fanboys? Oh my...
Oh man, now I feel like climbing up in the loft and getting my atari out, I even remember having some other dizzy titles in my library. The original Monkey island has to one of the best titles I had on this format, oh and Knights of the Sky.
chuchuchapman - there is no need to bring your old Atari ST down from the loft; search for "Steem engine Atari ST" and download the emulator to play many of your old games again on your computer!
In spite of the colour palette limitations, there wasn't actually a huge difference between the two machines, graphically. Sure, the ST was slightly inferior, but not to any blatantly obvious degree.
There was a cheat that if you typed in "eggsonlegs" you become invincible, and because of that, you could accidently fall down somewhere (can't remember where) fall a few screens, survive before the game would lightning bolt you. That would always scare the hell out of me. I dare you to upload a video of such a ..disturbing memory of my childhood.
Yes I remember the cheat well and also the other cheat I loved was "icanfly". If you flew up & up you actually came into a giant whales stomach full of coins. Classic 80's wish we could go back for a few weeks!
I remember this, isn't there a wall or some kind of obstruction on the other shore after you've got through the ocean. I couldn't get past that wall a quit the game because of it.
Yeah. The Games Hard But On Spectrum On A Different Language You Not Get Killed By Bad Guys.God,I Tried The Atari Version And I Did Not Know The Controls.
thnx. used to love this...loved the music. it was a bastard - if you werent using the cheats! id like to see fantasy world and fast food again too...loved the music on those
It is a bastard! There's just no need for so many surprise deaths when you only have one life. The music IS great, though. Possibly my second favourite from a Dizzy game, after Dizzy Panic.
never completed this, got pretty far though!! ICANFLY! looool

@MegabyteUnleashed 1 life is silly and im sure you get more than 1 on the 8 bit versions, if they did try to make it like real life then they failed

I actually prefer this music to the amiga version.
Dunno why everyone seems to automatically badmouth ST music. it wasn't always worse for some games.

WHY is this game looking like...10-times better that that one in "QUATRO HELL ADVENTURE PUKE"???
(aka "Quatro Adventures"?)
SpeedBumpRump 4 years ago
Well, this was a 16-bit version, as opposed to the NES, which was an 8-bit machine. The version in Quattro Adventure does look kind of poor, though.
