The largest tornado I ever saw was an F5 = FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK. It was the tornado that hit Jarrell, Texas on May 27, 1997. 27 people died, homes were splintered leaving only foundations. Asphalt was ripped from the streets and 300 head of cattle were killed. It was a mile wide.

Back in April 1998 I was driving from New Orleans to DC and I drove within 3 miles of the path of an F5 that had some of the highest wind speeds ever recorded in the US. I'm not sure where I was, maybe Little Rock. Only time in my life that I was genuinely afraid of the weather.
