Ive been attacked by dogs in a similar manner, not rabbid though. Grab an ear and YANK! If that doesnt work, smash them on the back of the head like you are trying to chip ice with a pick. If it doesnt kill them (a strong enough, properly placed strike WILL KILL! It severs the spine leading into the brain stem) the animal tends to get the point and let go... A soft loaf of bread on the other hand... not so deadly.
