i still have every single (80s) album..........the picture discs...theres no cover, the cover is printed on the vinyl itself :D (kill em all, ride the lightning, master of puppets, creeping death and a limited edition one with only 2 tracks on it) i bet i could sell em for decent money today :D
this is actual a decent interview of Lars, he is still humble here, cause the fame really hasn't hit yet. He is having a conversation and a dialogue... it's great
Even back then, Lars had an open mind that Metallica doesn't stick to one "label" (ex: Thrash Metal). So to everyone who hates 'Load' and everything after "Justice" and/or "The Black Album" because they "changed", HA! Lar's even told you back in '86 that they do whatever they want, whenever they want. Long live METALLICA!
Anyone who has read the book about Metallica by Mick Wall? Is it a book that hates on Metallica or is it something else? When I read a preview of it it seemed to me that he is hating on the band and reveals all of the dirty stuff they have done? Does he hold a personal grudge against Metallica or does he just want to make money?
everything hes saying is basically anti black album, fucker, i wish cliff never died, could you see cliff cutting his hair and going through that pussy 90s phase they went through, he was rolling in his grave
@BBOZ83 Lars and James contributed more to the music than Cliff tho. If Lard and James matured I'm sure Cliff would have too since Cliff isn't the most responsible for most of the heavy music. Actually, I think Cliff brought to the music the most classical kinda of music on the Puppets album. Cliff was the least metal in that sense
@bretzagar i kinda see your point but james has even said a lot of the riffs from those albums cliff wrote and lars just mostly helped with the arrangements and song structures, cliff had the most ''fuck you'' attitude of any of them, he was the biggest presence of that band, if the black album would have been a complete failure, they woulda went back to ripping our faces off
Why be ashamed of being called thrash? I mean, metal IS a label, right? Rock IS a label? POP too, right? At least, he finally realized that yes, THEY started thrash, but Lars, you also like to categorize: remember your NWOBHM compilation?
I've seen this dude in a few other interviews (Ozzy-Behind The Music, Iron Maiden-Classic Albums) and he was bald and had a goatee. This is the first time I've seen him with hair and clean shaven. Lol.
@qu7aker Well you have to remember Kill Em All was released on a independent label so by 1986 it was basically out of print. So to many people Ride The Lightning was the first album they had access to because it was released on Elecktra records. In 1988 Kill Em All was rereleased on Elecktra records
I have gotten something out of all of Metallica's albums! Probably... no definitely the greatest band to be formed and come plowing out of the 1980s...btw I wasnt born till 92:)
This is an awesome video... thanks for sharing! This is brilliant stuff! Even back in 1986 - before the release of MOP - Lars specifically said that they were not "just" thrash... incredibly, people still were surprised they changed sound over the years...
I think Metallica and Lars gave people a fair warning... hehe!
I've been searching for those Monster of Rock shows forever! Is there any chance those can be made into a torrent or something?
I used to watch those back then, had the VHS compilation like most kids at the time and I would love to see that again, the tape has been lost since forever...
i think lars would not have liked that right after his interview they played a Motley Crue video and that was the band that they kind of despised.
