  • I'd heard loads about this trainer and thought everyone was exaggerating but I have to say, WHAT THE HELL?!!! No wonder he got the sack! When there are so many people preacticing better training methods what were they thinking?!! I'm definately not old school or a CM fan but I do think a lot of todays trainers forget that a dog is a dog and does need leadership. People have a tendancy to over analyse situations when good leadership and common sense is all that it probably needs.

  • What a complete bell end!! He has no idea what he's doing! He's teaching the dog how to be aggressive!! How the hell would that work! I hope he gets the sack!

  • Another idiot who saw Millan intimidate and abuse dogs and saw that money could be made by selling this message of control through coercion. Shame on BBC for putting Jordan on the air.

  • This guy no's nothing! He is obviously, is just a relativly good lokking guy with charisma who the show snapped up as a way of trying to get ratings...Did anyone ask for his qualifictions? No, people tend to think that if you are told that someone is a trainer then that is the truth..it isn't so, ALWAYS ask for qualifications and if you are not happy then say so. you have every right to say that you don't like it.

I agree every dog is different and so on..but this isn't right!

  • A dog is not a wolf, it does not strive for dominance. This dog is the same as my dog was. The way to treat it is to help alleviate the root cause - that this dog is anxious when eating around people. The dog needs to associate being relaxed with receiving food. The owners could try feeding the dog little by little, by hand. Anyway there is probably a whole soup of reasons to cause this dog to be so anxious, I didn't see him take a full history of the dog! Prevention is better than cure

  • Please tell me i'm not the only person who thought that dog was drugged at the end?

  • Just get the fucking stick, That will sort the little bitch out.

  • this dog has issues and they are being addressed. we as humans are in charge, not dogs. we need to know how to treat them as dogs, not humans.

  • &agsam27 when there is scientific proof that Old Skool beliefs don't stack up to scrutiny why should it have a place? Are flat earth believers bunny huggers?

  • @thejohnjohnny could be anything, medical etc. Any decent professional would address this first.

  • nothing wrong with this training same as Cesar Milan. a dominant JRT, needs putting in its place in the pack (i have 5!) leave him alone bunny huggers and realise there is a place for both positive and 'old skool' training.

  • At 5.20 is that an Ecollar on the dog? Thank god he's been taken off

  • I figured...he learned from watching Cesar Millan on TV.....just great

  • Oh my god!!!!

  • British version of Cesar Milan. Suppression through intimidation. Sadly, makes for impressive television for the masses (profit for the producers). The general public look past dog's stress signals and view the dog's "calm submission" (as Cesar calls it) as good behavior. If people could only read their dogs as well as their dogs read people, they would see the dog is highly stressed. There are kinder ways to teach good behavior.

  • The dog hasn't been fixed, just taught to suppress a behaviour which is a result of an underlying problem which hasn't been addressed. If anything this dog is more dangerous now than it was before, he's turned it into a ticking time bomb. This type of training went out about 30 years ago, I can't believe it got through BBC quality control

  • @TonyandDevon what sort of underlying problem?

  • I don't think you would see cesar milan doing these things and shouting, he hardly makes a sound! Nob!

  • Positive Reinforcement trainer Victoria Stilwell has offered to fly out to the UK to help the family

  • @tourzonanotherplanet the problem is it that it is extremely detrimental to the dog and the safety of the family. the dog hasn't changed its mind about anything. its just too scared to do anything. soon, it will have had enough and will attack and will not stop. these methods are extremely dangerous. please don't attempt them

  • I couldn't watch it anymore...aggression is LOUD, stress is (quiet...shhhh) the best dog trainer will notice subtle signs before loud obvious stuff. Did anyone think also it might be a problem for a stressed dog to be picking at his food like that...put aside the phsycological abuse for one second and take note of the physiological potentional also. All in all this is ABUSE. Go to college pretty boy.

  • This guy has the worst timing.

Oh, and he'd like to drag dogs up and down stairs. There's something to look forward to.

  • dog cruelty? the dog attacks him! the dog is a pack animal, he mearly puts himself forward as the alpha leaving him in a position to offer instruction and then reward for following it. The dog was going to be put down for goodness sake. What a lot of snobs.

  • What an unpleasant man, he'd last two seconds in my house if he treated my dog like that. He'd be shown the door with a boot up his backside!

  • Yep, he just mentioned the Dog Whisperer being his idol...

  • Looks like he's been watching too much Dog Whisperer...

  • to give the dog her food and then take it off her is wrong,if someone gave me my food and went to take it off me id attack them lol, when i give my dog her food or treats i leave her alone, big cesar milan wannabe

  • Absolutely appalling! Stressed out dog even more distrustful of humans than it was before. This is abuse and NOT an intelligent compassionate way to treat a living creature.

  • How can any self-respecting dog owner stand around while this jackass uses these clearly abusive techniques? This jackass should be barred from working with animals, and the owners should be stripped of their pets.

  • Also notable, 'dominance' is a calm, leadership role, not someone who barges around 'challenging'.

A true, dominant pack leader/dog would naturally not have the time to be bothered with 'challenging' one of its followers. It would instruct them, and that would be the end of it.

Youll find no natural dog training, in pack settings without humans present, that last upwards of 45 minutes and involve a full blown fight over the food.

  • You should never 'challenge' a dog. You should calmly instruct it. This isnt a war.

  • This is ridiculous. At one point it almost looks like he's kicking the dog! The dogs body language after he's used these techniques is worrying. The dog shouldn't be cowering while eating, it's supposed to be a positive thing!

  • This just proves you dont have to know how to train dogs to get a piece of paper that tells stupid peopel at the bbc that you do. to be honest my 3 year old niece knows better than this. The dog is not biting him in the end cos she is scared of him kicking her and not cos he has trained her differently. PEOPLE LIKE THIS GIVE PROPER DOG TRAINERS A BAD NAME!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This should have been dealt with completely differently. Shelley uses inconsistent signals and supposed 'commands' to get the dog to comply and ends up with a repeatedly bitten foot... no professional would let a dog get to this state of anxiety. Amateurish and embarrassing for Jordan Shelley and the BBC.

  • 2:32 were she doesn't even eat. Breaks my heart.

  • I have a Jack Russell and she's the best dog ever! :D If she's eating she'll quite happily let you take her food bowl away and she won't growl or anything :) But the problem comes when she sees another dog ¬.¬ Can anyone give me any advice to get her to stop trying to attack other dogs when i'm walking her? :/

  • @Jiminiblobster Most likely she attacks because she is scared. The best way to work through it is to divert her attention with treats and toys. There are several good techniques that'll make your walks easier. The best thing to do is to make contact with a certified behaviourist or dog trainer that uses positive reinforcement in your area.

  • @Buszke I'll try using treats and see if that helps :P

  • @Jiminiblobster Try searching youtube for LATLAM and clicker training to get you started. It's easier when you have help, though.

  • just what we need, the UKs answer to CM !!

  • I can understand what this guy is trying to do but he has gone off track and over the top.He is trying to control the dog and claim the food as a domant dog would do, the problem is he is not calm assertive, but using rather aggresive techniques.I'm sure many trainers would advise to feed this dog by hand for a period of time(2-3 weeks) to build trust, and others would claim the food but in a much calmer better way. Watch Bella, food, people, and dog aggressive American Bulldog off Cesar Millan.

  • I am a dog trainer and have been training for 5 years. I have a dog that had food aggression problems as a youngster and this is NOT how you work through these problems. The whole reason dogs act this way with food is because the have fear or mistrust related to food and people. You have to build that trust back up NOT reinforce that mistrust, anxiety and fear. This probably only made the problem worse. or truly damaged the dog's emotional being thus creating more behavioral problems.

  • I don't see what's wrong?

  • How awful. I couldn't even watch. I hope this family can find a real behvaior expert to help them.

  • "If they need my help, I'll be back." Dear lord, is that a threat?

  • Wow Jordan is an asshole. Why on earth do people let these idiots onto TV? Poor dog.

  • unnaceptable that this goes on in the UK with so many wonderfull well educated, knowledgeable in positive reinforcement humane techniques of training and educating dogs. Quite disheartening!

  • she owns the door? what the fuck is this guy talking about?

  • Hey! This would make a great "How NOT to train your dog" segment.. any takers?

  • Holy moly. "Next week, where to hit with a rolled up newspaper and how many times to rub his nose in it if he messes in the house".

I can't wait. Dear oh dear oh dear...

  • I agree100% with your comments!!! This is not dog training, but dog cruelty!!!!

  • The awkward moment when Jordan Shelley comes over to train your dog and you ask for his qualifications.........

  • @Lennythecloud. The awkward moment that Jordan comes round to train your dog the same way and finds it's a rather unhappy looking Rottie!
