I just did this today in my piper cub about 2 hours ago in a lesson. Started at 3500, then did 4-5 rotations down to 1700ft(Pattern altitude), then entered the downwind on the 45. We did this right over the airport! :)
I used to do that but I had to close the doors to spin or the top door wouldn't stay up. Cub's spin nice, I climbed a 65 HP cub to 8,000 feet once (it took forever) and lost count at about 15 turns on the way down. I was dizzy for the next 10 minutes. Nothing like a J-3 on a nice grass runway in the summer. It's still one of the prettiest planes ever made.

I'm surprised the pilots was taking the video. Why not have the pax up front do the video while the pilot flys?

I never spun the J-3. I'm surprised at how it wrapped up, I expected it would spin slower.
