your baby doesn't start breathing until it emerges from the vagina or from the water (which is kept at body temperature) and hits air. Until then it receives oxygen via the placenta. Being in water allowed me to change positions easily (didn't feel my weight), eased pain and I picked up both my boys when they were born (nobody pulled them out or handed them to me.) I had one birth out of water and it doesn't compare to birthing in water.
wow.. am already give birth to 8 kids and still one on the way they all are naturals birth but i only lay on my back . i haven't try any of this position may be i should try this time.
instead of saying 'once you receive an epidural' - how about 'if you receive an epidural' - having a major medical procedure is not a necessary part of labor and delivery.
Very informative. But, i'm not sure that I could keep cool enough to remember any of this when the time comes...i'm not usually so graceful under pressure.
Thanks a lot for this! I'm still only a student and not planning to have children until I've finished my education, but already people are ridiculing me for not wanting to have a hospital birth, and for wanting to be at home during birth - though water birthing has my interest, it just seems so comfortable and natural, and such a miraculous way to form an instant bond with your newborn =)
whew... i'm 12 weeks pregnant... watching these videos scares me... hope i'll have an easy labor and delivery... it's what scares me the "DELIVERY"...
@QUAVERINE Don't worry, it is mostly mental - just keep reminding yourself that your body was created to be able to give birth. Don't let yourself think "I can't" or your brain will go into panic mode and your body will follow. Decide which birthing options are right for you and then don't be afraid to change it later, if your circumstances change. Just remember there is no one right way to give birth :) You can do it!!
They say its not very painful but you never know whats gonna happen at the end. The hospital im going to they have a pool in there so they give you the option. :-) I have 11 wks left so we'll see.
@TICABELLA23 iwanna hve it natural..oo can uget a jucuzzi?! n wtf how wen a 1mon old baby can drown in 1in water n it was developed n can be born in water!?
Hun I think it have to do with umbilical cord, cos when the baby still coming out they still breathing through the umbilical cord, and when the Dr. cuts it is when they start breathing in their own. But is alot of videos that show you how to have a baby under the water. I dont think you can have it in the jucuzzi with all the bubbles. lol check in here youtube and look water birth. is nice. Im doing drugs free, but like i say you never know at the end. :)
Your baby will no more drown in a water birth than in will drown in utero. Your baby lives in water and should clear its air passages and breathe when two things happen:
When the cord is cut, the flow of oxygen from the placenta is stopped; and when the cold air hits, it triggers the first breath. When the baby takes in its first lung full of air, usually within the first minute after being fully born, it causes a chain reaction that closes the different vessels in the heart and lungs and enables the baby to become a breather.
I love to read alot about it. When first I find out I was pregnant I start reading stuffs online like a crazy lady. LoL I never buy books, I found everything online. They gave me a book at the Clinic. But about water.
The water should be clean: if it is pure enough to drink, it is pure enough to give birth in. The water temperature should be between 95-101 degrees F, depending on your preference.

Laying down isn't great because there isn't help from gravity meaning your labour will last longer.
