  • I am studying to become an interpreter and I wear glasses...luckily I have not had them fly off yet, but I do bump them a lot...right now I laugh about it, but I think if I were in an actual interpreting situation I would be really embarrassed if they came off!! Lol

  • XD we use to discuss the dangers of interpreting and glasses in class cause our teacher had glasses. She told us about how they fly off, get crushed, adn all. Its funny. I have glasses and try to be safe >.> pfft. I can't wear contacts, so i deal.

  • Lol, Same meh..(=

  • yeah, hats and glasses are the worst. I HATE IT! LOL but i love wearing my glassses, like she said it's a part of my personality. It fits me. sign language interp can sometimes be very fast paced, and the most embarrassing thing is then you're giving a formal speech or a presentation for someone important, and your glasses go flying! TRAGIC!

  • LOL, that is hilarious!!!! I wear glasses too, and usually that happens when I sign; I'd hit my glasses accidentally and it either falls off or presses against my face :P

  • I've seen that on more than one occasion! :)

  • So cute!

  • YOU ARE VERY GOOD I COULD UNDERSTAND WHAT U WERE SAYING AND IV NEVER SIGNED B4!

  • didint catch alot of what was signed because i am still learning but you have a very expressive face and that helped me understand. thanks

  • lol!

studying for my certificate, and am sooo blind without my glasses, thanks for the heads up!

    hahaahah

    |m|/

  • What an amusing video! I love your signing and your expressions crack me up. Thanks for posting.

  • thank you. one of my Deaf friends sent this to me. I am old, and I don't focus well with either contacts or glasses. since an eye infection I haven't been able to wear contacts.

  • that is good thing... i get contact lenses better than nothing...

  • I have managed to launch my glasses before while signing. Never broke any yet so I'm happy lol

    Take care ~Hânh

  • I had the same thing happen to me, interpreting Romeo and Juliet in a dark theater. I flipped my glasses several rows up. I'm blind as a bat without my glasses!

  • LOL touch finish me many times!!! One question: were they the same pair each time? ;) I totally agree with what you said about individuality. I'm the same, through and through. I have been wearing glasses for 23 years (and interpreting for 17)...they really are a part of who I am. The only time I wear my contacts is for special occassions. I'm not prim and proper, but I'm comfy. That's one of the most important things in terpin' .. i've seen many a babyterp fry themselves for it!

  • Hi there! I'm deaf too and I CRACKED up listening to your stories. It happens to us deaf people too, even elbowing a waitress who's carrying a FULL tray of drinks while I was signing too big and she stumbled and the tray of drinks went flying.. Oh, yeah one of my true stories! :D You're beautiful the way you are, by the way!! I love your stories! You're awesome!

  • Yea, when i interpret I basically go blind i dont give a shit, Im not doing contacts.... and why were the construciton workers arguing?

  • You obviously diddnt try very hard then. Im only in ASL 1.

You know-- were still doing stuff like "MY. SHIRT. IS. YELLOW. HER. SHIRT, IS, BROWN" and i understood at probably 75% or better of what she signed. Watch a few super expressive signers for a little while and youll forget all about captions!

  • I'm just a little asl beginner, so I certainly didn't grasp all the nuances of your story, but you are so clear and very easy to read so I think I got most of it :) And, the next time I'm signing, I'll remember the contacts!

  • Well

Hearing people dont put subtitles on their videos

Why should deaf people have to put subtitles on theirs?

  • @dechetsdailybs Yes!

  • I'm a hearie, but the same thing happens to me when I sign. I can get really into it. :D Sometimes I have to have someone else help me find 'em, too.

  • XD it can be happen to me many times!! XD i am deaf too!!

  • XD it happen to me many times!!! XD 5 stars! XD

    i am deaf too!

  • interesting story LOL.... it did happened to me sometimes when I sign with glasses on.... and also I'm not ALLOW to wear contacts either..... that SUX! =(

  • Nice video! I am a deafie myself. Whenever I sign with my hands to my friends, I often get my specs "knocked off" too! My friends asked me to wear contacts. I told them I still prefer wearing specs cos it is more troublesome to wear contacts than specs. Yes I am also expressionful. That gets in the way of my specs but I m used to it =)

  • very funny story!

  • linguistically, it is part of American Sign Language... facial expressions are comparable to vocal intonations, emphasis, and grammatical requirements

  • @MyHappyHands I see I wear glasses so I will just wear my contacts.

  • Very funny, indeed! I'm not blind without my glasses/contacts, but if I don't have my contacts, I usually wear my glasses. I have definitely noticed them getting in the way. They also slip down my face a lot, and sometimes it interrupts my signing when I push them back up. Ha.

  • That was very funny. :) I laughed for a long time afterwards. :P

  • Love that! Funny stuff...

  • haha that made me laugh! i kno wat u mean ya that's ur style clothes and with glasses. i like my style and something things on me and didn't like it cuz it's not my style tho :)

    hehe i am deaf :-p

  • I love your engagement/emotion/prosody! Very nice style.

  • I have had the same thing happen to me MANY times! The worst was when I was interpreting at a church, during the invitation at the close of the service. The song was very dramatic...and I was very into it. I flipped my glasses into the fourth pew!! Everyone tried to keep their composure...but it didn't work too well. 3 or 4 rows of Deaf people were all signing to me at the same time...and I couldn't see a thing. Someone finally got up and brought my glasses to me! SOOO embarrassing!

  • Personally, I've always thought women with glasses were more....attractive anyway.

There ARE a lot of interesting contacts out there tough. Have you seen the ones that make your pupils extremely big, so you can look like a character out of an Anime film? Kinda disturbing on a real person but hey.....

But my advice is keep the glasses.

  • Seems CodaDiva asked about Sign injuries not too long ago too...I don't wear glasses, but I did jab my nose when signing kids once, now I try to use children no matter what!!! Love ur happy hands, enjoy your vlogs and expressions...

  • *laughing* well it could be a great party trick for interpreters, ya know? *grin*

Well - what could of have been worse in Story #3 ... I am sure the student would not mind being hit by glasses ... but if it is pair of dentures ... uhmmm....way too creepy if you ask me :D

AND ... it is not for us to tell you to wear contact lenses - do wear glasses but just realise that it does come with the dangers of sign language *grin*

I am really enjoying your vlogs - thank you :)

    ~Tina

  • Hehehe, I'm deaf... and sometimes when I chat with friends or educators or teachers in the past... that happen that I sign and oopss my glasses flew out... grrr but anyways, I liked what you did share with us, hehe I laughed about it... but true that each peoplel own their own identity... I like my glass.

  • lol there have been a couple times in my class where I've bumped them off my face

  • I understand that you love your glasses but why dont you use the contacts for your interpreting job only??

  • I used to, but now my eyes simply won't have it... They get itchy and dry and it's too distracting.

  • I have even MORE problems with contacts. I have an astigmatism, so my contacts are weighted. My facial expressions are quite animated all the time, but obviously especially if I am interpreting! If I make any expressions, the contacts float around in my eyes...or even pop out! It's a lot easier to have someone hand you your glasses than everyone stop and search for the contact lens I can't see!

  • Haha, this vlog is great. I've had a multitude of run-ins with interpreting and glasses as well. I discovered any time a gym class is playing a game in which is the object is to hit people with a ball, remove glasses before the game starts. Getting hit in the face hurts enough, but it's far worse when there's metal/glass being shoved into your face.

  • LOL! You are so right! I forgot about the Phys. Ed./sports classes!! Those were a definite HAZARD as well. Good call.

  • You can still cherish your identity with contacts...glasses don't make you who you are, it's *sigh* what's on the inside. I can't believe I just said that. -_- But it's true I guess. You don't have to get the colored kind. You like being unique? Then get the necklace attachment things. I've had the same experience interpreting outside with my sunglasses...can't really avoid sunglasses :/

  • you have a great expression and body language!!!

  • lol, not just interpreter, it does happen to deaf, too even myself.

  • ha ha ha ha and when you wear glasses it does make yo look smarter : ) ha man you gotta add your YOUTUBE username to deafvideo(dot)tv they will love your funny vlogs.

  • LOL now I dont' want to learn to interpret! I tried contacts but my eyes are too dry, I had to put drops in all the time, I grew sick of it, so i went back to my glasses.

  • I like wearing my glasses too, I had contacts for a while but I prefer my glasses. My face looks too different without! I have had similar experiences in the past but not many LOL Maybe you can get those strings for behind your neck that hold them on? LOL!! j/k but they might work :O
