When I get older i'm going under cover and sneaking some animals out..... A few day ago my family and I went to a Pet store and saw a breeder guinea pig that was 1-eyed and pregnant, deformed, blood spots all-over it, and it had no food or water... did i mention the bird cage under it with over 10 eggs and 3-5 dead birds, also with NO food and water?

Funny how PETCO and PETSMART actually sell very few animals. I've seen no more than about 15 mice in the store, and about 5 ferrets, and about 2-3 chinchillas. Also, the Petsmart I go to has no faults at all. their cages are clean, and even their fish are in good health. It is the suppliers problem if they can't find another way to determine the sex of rodents.

Wait i was in petsmart the other day and all there small animals had mites, i almost bought a rat but i noticed the mite problem. The next day all of the pets were gone? Did they send all the animals back to this place? :(

@Jackyhkable That is bullshit. The local pet store by my house sells them for a lot less then that and I am actually one of the guys who gave them a litter of hamsters. They are treated very well and not for profit. This is a good sign of what capitalism does to a country. It shows character by how one treats those who can do you no harm.

It's not all on Petco or Petsmart! It's those two douchebags that happen to work in the factory. It's not even the whole factory/warehouse/whatever, either. Those containers full of mice? I got my hamster from petsmart YEARS ago, i was an innocent seven year old. Now, long after he died of old age, i saw what he went through before he arrived at petsmart.
I work as a pet care specialist at Petsmart and I can tell you, we do NOT treat the animals badly at ALL! In fact we treat them very well! And yes, animals do die on occasion, just as they do in the wild, but we do EVERYTHING we can to prevent it. We separate them if they are fighting, treat animals that we can, and immediately take them to a vet if we can't. Punish the vendors, not us! PETA is always looking for a way to make us look bad. 1 bad vendor doesn't spoil the whole store!

I did not see any outragious mistreatment of the animals. They were just quickly tossed into some boxes. Just a couple of punk teenagers that would have been fired if their boss knew what they were doing. Porr rats/mice in cramped quarters though. that wouldn't have been fun.
But petco and petsmart shouldn't be attacked without real evidence that they are harming animals. From what I have seen in this post, animal welfare is important to them.
I work @ Petsmart and animals are never treated like this. The distributors obviously do not do their job for their love of animals. And though it's sad to see any animal treated like this, you still cannot base an entire distributor's actions on one or two employees.

Look, I work as a dog trainer at Petsmat, we do NOT have only one supplier, and we do NOT order ANYTHING in mass amounts. We have no control over what suppliers do. We do not carry mass amounts of any animal in the store either. When they arrive, we have an isolation room where the animals are cared for in the same average size (for w/e it is) housing that you'd use at home, so that the animal can calm down and get used to the surroundings, etc. The people I work with truly love animals,itshows
It's the warehouse not the store, and more then likely petsmart employees have never stepped foot inside the warehouse. I work at a Petsmart dealing with the animals,mistreating the animals there would not be tolerated whatsoever, my boss has and will fire an employee on the spot.

I have been volunteering at PetSmart and i even went behind the closed doors. The only animals i saw there? Just a guy washing a branch and whistling with a happy bird on his shoulder. No harm to animals at PetSmart. They do not kill animals. I saw it with my own eyes.

I got my pet rat Steve from Petco. I remember yelling at the associate who helped me because he grabbed Steve (my rat) by the tail which hurts them. I've had Steve for almost a year, and I'm still working with him one on one to try to gain his full trust and be comfortable, and it'll take time because he's scared of human interaction. After seeing this, I will never buy or recommend anyone buy an animal form these chain stores.

The bastards (excuse my french) at those warehouses.. it sickens me. They should go through (all the workers, not the investigators) what the animals go through at the warehouse. They should be put in those cheap, filthy cages, the filthy bins. They should be put into those tight spaces, see what it's like being in your own feces. I've bought guinea pigs there and they were always healthy and both lived for 5 & 8 years. I was going to buy ine at Petco but all the animals there didn't look well. I think they since shut down.
I couldn't EVER sleep at night knowing i had THROWN pets into bins,Snapped their leg in two,Squashed one with a big boot,thrown one across the room,ect.

You can't really focus this on Petsmart, considering the people that run Petsmart probably have never even been to the warehouses that they get their animals from, and just expect that they care for them well. It should be focused on the warehouse, not the pet store.

Whilst Petsmart (or other any other pet store), show the "happy-friendly" face at the end of the supply chain, most of their animals they get from are massively reproduce. Only the general public has the option to shift the demand for "new" pets and just start adopting from animal shelters.... And a passive animal, does not mean it is domesticated.

Animals by nature are much tougher than humans. They just have thicker skins. For example, cats and dogs can withstand bumps and cuts and bruises without even whimpering. I have a 15 lb labradoodle puppy and she ran into a stick and stabbed herself, but the only way we knew was cuz blood was dripping, she never whimpered or cried at all. Our petco is great. All of the cages are clean. Rarely there is a dead fish in the tank. All of the mice, hamsters, rabbits, ferrets, and gerbels appear happy, healthy, and active. I have gotten two hamsters from petco (not at the same time) and they both pasted normal age. And they were friendly. The workers care for the animals very much. Some of the petcos are terrible, but a lot are very good.
good job peta! there is this pet store in Oshawa I believe its called pet superstore who extremely over crowd the cages, the bird cages are disgusting they are small cages packed with over 20 birds, its ridiculous, and all there fish tanks have at least 2 or 3 dead fish in each tank, it just makes me sick. probably about 70% of the fish in the tanks are clearly sick ( dis-coloured eyes and bodies ) its horrible, I'm surprised they haven't been arrested.

The man did not throw the animal against the wall, he was using a metaphor stating the animals are tough, so the trainee did not have to be worried about hurting it when they sexed it. The "playstation" remark was actually a good example of the proper amount of pressure needed to determine the sex of the small animal. The rats that were being moved into a box were not being hurt, the person was simply doing it quickly. The rats dropped all of 6 inches onto soft bedding.

With the birds she wasnt being harsh she was just using a sense of urgency. I worked at the PETCO in Allen Park Michigan and some of the employees tortured the animals on purpose. I assume they hated their life and wanted to take it out on something that won't fight back. I got fired for telling on them. I can't prove in a court of law that I was fired for telling on them so they win in the end. It didn't pay enough to put up with it anyway.
Not to play Devil's advocate or anything but I think it's wrong to blame the stores for the way the supplier is treating the animals. Both Petco and Petsmart support adoption of unwanted animals and take excellent care of the animals while they are living at the store. ANY animal that is sick at these stores receives veterinary care immediately. I think people who wish to crucify should look at the whole picture!

Haven't any of you ever had a mouse infestation before? They look just like that in the wild, in massive packs just like you see on the video. Except in the wild, they tear up the weakest runts in the pack sometimes torturing them for hours until they die from the stress. I dont see that here, you know why? It's not all on Petco or Petsmart! It's those two douchebags that happen to work in the factory. It's not even the whole factory/warehouse/whatever, either. Those containers full of mice? What were here many 600 in both? A thousand? And how many were dead? OHRIGHT. Three! Sometimes things die. Calm down.

Yes, I'm sure that PetCo buyers realize that their supply comes from places like this. I don't work for PetCo, never have, and even I know what kinds of places these animals come from, so why wouldn't someone whose job it is to do the purchasing know??

I work as a pet care specialist at Petsmart and I can tell you, we do NOT treat the animals badly at ALL! In fact we treat them very well! And yes, animals do die on occasion, just as they do in the wild, but we do EVERYTHING we can to prevent it. We separate them if they are fighting, treat animals that we can, and immediately take them to a vet if we can't. Punish the vendors, not us! PETA is always looking for a way to make us look bad. 1 bad vendor doesn't spoil the whole store!

I did not see any outragious mistreatment of the animals. They were just quickly tossed into some boxes. Just a couple of punk teenagers that would have been fired if their boss knew what they were doing. Porr rats/mice in cramped quarters though. that wouldn't have been fun.
But petco and petsmart shouldn't be attacked without real evidence that they are harming animals. From what I have seen in this post, animal welfare is important to them.

I work @ Petsmart and animals are never treated like this. The distributors obviously do not do their job for their love of animals. And though it's sad to see any animal treated like this, you still cannot base an entire distributor's actions on one or two employees.

Look, I work as a dog trainer at Petsmat, we do NOT have only one supplier, and we do NOT order ANYTHING in mass amounts. We have no control over what suppliers do. We do not carry mass amounts of any animal in the store either. When they arrive, we have an isolation room where the animals are cared for in the same average size (for w/e it is) housing that you'd use at home, so that the animal can calm down and get used to the surroundings, etc. The people I work with truly love animals,itshows

It's the warehouse not the store, and more then likely petsmart employees have never stepped foot inside the warehouse. I work at a Petsmart dealing with the animals,mistreating the animals there would not be tolerated whatsoever, my boss has and will fire an employee on the spot.

I have been volunteering at PetSmart and i even went behind the closed doors. The only animals i saw there? Just a guy washing a branch and whistling with a happy bird on his shoulder. No harm to animals at PetSmart. They do not kill animals. I saw it with my own eyes.

I got my pet rat Steve from Petco. I remember yelling at the associate who helped me because he grabbed Steve (my rat) by the tail which hurts them. I've had Steve for almost a year, and I'm still working with him one on one to try to gain his full trust and be comfortable, and it'll take time because he's scared of human interaction. After seeing this, I will never buy or recommend anyone buy an animal form these chain stores.
This just baffles me that people can be like this.

They should be put in those cheap, filthy cages, the filthy bins. They should be put into those tight spaces, see what it's like being in your own feces. I dont see whats wrong with the petco they sell the animals and house them in way better conditions than at this shit hole ditributor. If someone sent me some lost cause I might turn it back to. Its a business and petco still makes sure that its animals are well taken care of so, stfu . :)

I've bought guinea pigs there and they were always healthy and both lived for 5 & 8 years. I was going to buy ine at Petco but all the animals there didn't look well. I think they since shut down.

You can't really focus this on Petsmart, considering the people that run Petsmart probably have never even been to the warehouses that they get their animals from, and just expect that they care for them well. It should be focused on the warehouse, not the pet store.

@xXParlementXx You DO have to focus on Petsmart and the whole house pet industry. Whilst Petsmart (or other any other pet store), show the "happy-friendly" face at the end of the supply chain, most of their animals they get from are massively reproduce. Only the general public has the option to shift the demand for "new" pets and just start adopting from animal shelters.... And a passive animal, does not mean it is domesticated.

Animals by nature are much tougher than humans. They just have thicker skins. For example, cats and dogs can withstand bumps and cuts and bruises without even whimpering. I have a 15 lb labradoodle puppy and she ran into a stick and stabbed herself, but the only way we knew was cuz blood was dripping, she never whimpered or cried at all. Furthermore, if these rats were being seriously damaged, Petco would search for an answer, they can't sell damaged goods, and every dead rat is a loss of profi

Our petco is great. All of the cages are clean. Rarely there is a dead fish in the tank. All of the mice, hamsters, rabbits, ferrets, and gerbels appear happy, healthy, and active. I have gotten two hamsters from petco (not at the same time) and they both pasted normal age. And they were friendly. The workers care for the animals very much. Some of the petcos are terrible, but a lot are very good.

good job peta! there is this pet store in Oshawa I believe its called pet superstore who extremely over crowd the cages, the bird cages are disgusting they are small cages packed with over 20 birds, its ridiculous, and all there fish tanks have at least 2 or 3 dead fish in each tank, it just makes me sick. probably about 70% of the fish in the tanks are clearly sick ( dis-coloured eyes and bodies ) its horrible, I'm surprised they haven't been arrested.

I rescued my cute little speedy from nasty petco! she was very scared of humans before but now she is the cutest robo hammy ever! >:( I'm gonna go to my nearest petsmart/pet co. and ask them to stop mistreating animals! because if they dont they're loosing a costomer with two cats and a hammy!

The man did not throw the animal against the wall, he was using a metaphor stating the animals are tough, so the trainee did not have to be worried about hurting it when they sexed it. The "playstation" remark was actually a good example of the proper amount of pressure needed to determine the sex of the small animal. The rats that were being moved into a box were not being hurt, the person was simply doing it quickly. The rats dropped all of 6 inches onto soft bedding.

With the birds she wasnt being harsh she was just using a sense of urgency. The animals dying in cages well animals die everywhere, they were the runts and the bigger rats ate all the food before them. Runts die in the wild for the same reason. And he didnt say to throw them against the wall, he was stating they are strong with a metaphor.

I worked at the PETCO in Allen Park Michigan and some of the employees tortured the animals on purpose. I assume they hated their life and wanted to take it out on something that won't fight back. I got fired for telling on them. I can't prove in a court of law that I was fired for telling on them so they win in the end. It didn't pay enough to put up with it anyway.

Not to play Devil's advocate or anything but I think it's wrong to blame the stores for the way the supplier is treating the animals. Both Petco and Petsmart support adoption of unwanted animals and take excellent care of the animals while they are living at the store. ANY animal that is sick at these stores receives veterinary care immediately. I think people who wish to crucify should look at the whole picture!

Haven't any of you ever had a mouse infestation before? They look just like that in the wild, in massive packs just like you see on the video. Except in the wild, they tear up the weakest runts in the pack sometimes torturing them for hours until they die from the stress. I dont see that here, you know why? Because they probably remove the sickly runts ahead of time to save them the torture. Not to defend everything here or anything, but none of this is really Damning information
