Saw the Yardbirds in 1965 at local amusement park here in Oklahoma City. Jeff Beck was lead and Jimmy Page had just joined them. Concert cost $5 and was by far the best I had ever seen to date. Wow I'm 61 and still love that music.
GREAT Version of this Song!!!! YAY!!!! btw, this Song is NOT a Yardbirds 'ORIGINAL',.... it's a Cover-Song. The Yardbirds are 'COVERING' "I'm not Talking" which was written by and Originally Recorded by MOSE ALLSON!!!!
damn this picture of Jimmy Page really makes me think of Ritchie Blackmore for some reason... both great guitarists, who brought a lot to the world of music =)
@MrSamram3 dude i just realized the intro to this song is the same as the one in Mobi Dick by led zep, pagie, i guess paggie felt like recycling the riff
The genres are so different, you had to have a wide range of interest. I liked C&W, folk, R&B, Blues, R&R, classical, hymns. It just had to be GOOD. My criteria were, in order; beat and innovative sound, lyric, guitar styling, rhythm/percussion, bass beat.
Appearance was not a factor. Radio had no "image".
Yardbirds? Definitely a really good English band that was the breeding ground for Jeff Beck's excellent guitar playing. But to put them in a category (or any band for that matter) with the Beatles? LOL! The Beatles literally changed music, hairstyles, society, morays, etc. The Yardbirds, Stones, Who etc.? They changed their guitar strings. ;-)

Thinking that The Animals are "the fifth best band to come out of England" (AND BEING SERIOUS) proves that you're not living in the real world, fuckstick.
I can think of about 20 bands off the top of my head that enjoyed more success, worldwide, than the fucking Animals, buddy. YOU CAN TOO.
I like The Who more than I like The Beatles, but they're clearly not the better band...your personal taste has nothing to do with reality!
The Animals are not one of the bests from England...
One of my faves by them, too, debsue. Thanks for uploading this great-sounding, hard-to-find gem! Regards, The '62 Mathew St. Band (1 Man-Full Group Retro)
I have tickets to see The Yardbirds on May 27 in Long Island. They playing the boulton center in bayshore ny. i saw them last year in Westbury and they killed. Opened with Train kept a rollin and closed with dazed and confused.
The Yardbirds 2010 US Tour with original members Chris Dreja & Jim McCarty; May 21 Robert Parilla PAC Montgomery College Rockville MD; May 22 Chesapeake Blues festival Annapolis MD; May 23 Tangiers Akron OH; May 25 Sellersville Theatre Sellersville PA; May 26 BB Kings New York NY; May 27 YMCA Boulton Center Bayshore NY; May 28 Showcase Live Foxbourgh MA; May 30 Memorial Day Weekend Festival Virginia Beach VA.
fact is..i saw live, and up close-up.all the bands i talk about,,,not having listened to them on my mom's tape deck. i had my head stuck in ginger bakers bass drum at the Whiskey Go-Go for Creams first show in LA....so yeah, Cream are right in there, but not in the top five for all time greatness in songwriting and influencing other bands. i saw zepellin do 4 sets in two nights and i sta on the floor 30 feet away. i know my music, yeah..it's my opinion, but really,,, savoy brown?.come on now.
Just because you saw bands live doesn't mean that others can't be fans of them because they haven't seen them, or only know of them through albums that have been out for years, or have their own opinions.
I saw The Ramones...but that doesn't mean some 13 year old can't appreciate them & be a big fan.
And yeah - it's your opinion.
I personally think Cream fucking sucks.
And, a lot of people say that Zeppelin sucked live...
@asmorgan88 i would never say,if u havent seen a band live it means u cant love them..look at all the girls in love with the beatles,,today who are 14. so i dont know or care where u came up with that. and to say you think cream sucks...tells me right there, you have problems i can't solve or would ever want to help u with.
and lastly...i know a hell of alot more than you do about rock music...and i always will. and i have better taste in music thasn you do too. and that counts bigtime.
You're going around claiming you know more about rock & roll and certain bands because you've seen them live...I say you're an asshole who is too into themselves.
THAT'S where I came up with you saying to someone that they don't like the band as much as you because you saw them live...it's something YOU said. I'm repeating you! That's where I got it!
And...you like Cream, so it proves that your taste is kinda shitty & not better than mine, fuckstick.
@loveoldsongs dont know what your asking about the animals, yes i saw them live in 65, they were huge in the days. we covered about 3 songs in our band of their's. if you listen to Sky Pilot, it is fantastic.
and this guy assholemorgan, knows how to make some of the most ignorant statements.
Those bands are far more popular today than they were then...it's ignorant of YOU to say that they were big back in the day. They weren't at all...a couple tunes on the radio in the 60's didn't make you "huge". My grandfather's band was on the radio in the 60's & he's not fucking huge by any means.
You're claiming you know more about rock & like bands more because you've seen them live - you're fucking ignorant pal, not me.
The Animals were quite big back then. The Animals were the first British band after the Beatles to have a number 1 single in the US. They didn't last too long (neither did a lot of other groupds back then) as the organist wouldn't fly which messed up tours and Chas Chandler discovered Hendrix and concentrated on management. Burdon is still putting on a good show all these years later.
Maybe a 24 year old who likes professionsal wrestling (FFS) isn't the best judge.
I never look at people's profiles on here, let alone make comments about it.
The Animals had maybe two songs & that's it. They had one big single...a cover song. Plenty of bands have had hit records, & been on the radio & still hadn't broke through like some of their peers had.
The Animals weren't near The Beatles, The Stones, Beach Boys, The Who, or even The Kinks in America. My grandfather's band opened for them in Mendon, MA - they weren't fucking popular.
That would be 10 top 20 hits, in the US & the UK combined, many of which were not in the top 20 in America, my friend...all this shit is very well documented & known. All you have to do is not have your head up your ass thinking they're one of the greats, & actually look this shit up.
They had one number one in America...their second highest charting song was at #9 & it too was a fucking cover song.
Great voice, great organ playing...a couple good tunes.
I only looked at your profile to see if there was anything in there which might make me think there was some reason for thinking you had the slightest idea what you were talking about. Unfortunately it showed there wasn't.
The Animals were a very good group, I've seen everyone on stage Beatles, Stones, every big group you could think of and the Animals were in the top few. and better live than the Stones or the Kinks.
The Animals had 2 records voted in the top ever 500. Not bad for nobodies
I didn't say they were one of the greatest bands ever. I said they were one of the best bands I'd seen live. there is a difference. As for covers , Frank Sinatra, Elvis and Pavarotti aren't very good as they never wrote their won stuff.
As a matter of interest my favourite female singer is Janis Joplin, males singers, Otis Redding, Sam and Dave, Sam Cooke, David Ruffin and Van Morrison, only Van Morrison of who I've ever seen live.

I'm blown away by that guy...every performance I've seen of him is electrifying...especially that tour of the Stax artists in Scandinavia.
My whole initial claim was a response to someone else saying they (The Animals) were one of the bests from England. The "5th" to be exact...I thought it was absurd.
They're good - but they're not one of the bests.
To say they are is a farce, completely fan based, & ignorant.

@kemptonite THX U,,, for telling this moron what the fuck was going on when i was a teen and right in the middle of it all. we had a band in the 60's and we did at least 4 Animal songs. The Animals were for a few of the golden years, 65-68
they were as big as any band performing, his parents werent even married then, yet he thinks he's a expert on the scene back then. ur comment on his judgement is... sweetly perfect.
My grandfather's band opened up for them in a town of 2,000 people in front of a crowd of maybe 150...that doesn't sound like The Stones, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Kinks, or The Who to me.
They may have been good...and I'm not doubting that you liked them a lot...I can see how you would...but to say they're one of the bests is a fucking farce.
Just because your garage band played a few tunes by them, it didn't make them bigger than they were. Seriously?
@loveoldsongs Oh I agree with you about the Animals! Great band! I'm hearing a whole lot of songs they did on here that I didn't know they did!. Back then, you see, I didn't know who did what, because I was still quite a little kid. I heard all these fabulous popular songs, and just loved to listen to them. But I couldn't tell you what the titles all were or who did them all! ;^)
I'm telling you, since I'm an adult, I'm really enjoying finding and discovering all these songs, and learning-
You're saying one of the best English bands now? Not just one of the bests? That's a little better...
But...
Led Zeppelin? Cream? Pink Floyd? Black Sabbath?
God damn - The Yardbirds are my favorite next to The Ramones, but I'm not an asshole enough to say that they were one of the best bands from England. You've gotta be kidding me.
It's one thing to be a fan, it's another to make outrageous claims...The Animals being the 5th best band from England is an outrageous fucking claim.
As a matter of interest I preferred the Yardbirds to the Stones, mainly because of their genuine love of the blues. It was just a shame that Keith Relf was a chronic asthmatic which limited his performances somewhat. Again, the Yardbirds were a great band if you liked watching live bands, same as the Animals. Both of them backed many well known blues artists before they were well known. The Animals made a great live recording with Sonny Boy Williamson in 1963 and the Yardbirds did in 1964.

But they're not some of the best bands of all time...or even close.
There's nothing wrong with that either...
My favorite bands are Ramones, The Yardbirds, The Beatles, The Who & The Jam...but I'm not big enough of an asshole to say that The Ramones were huge, or that The Jam were bigger than The Who.
I say "The Ramones are the best ever" all the time...figuratively.
@asmorgan88 Yeah that's it man, sure The Ramones are better than the Beatles. What dimension are you from? Oh wait , I remember you put Lady Ga Ga first on your list of favorite "music" on your homepage. Just so you know , constantly calling everyone a fuckstick just lets us all know that you are the original fuckstick! Don't forget to look for a real job today! Have a great day Brother!
@asmorgan88 Aww how sweet, the exact response a 15 yr old would give. Ok I'll leave you alone now. I originally thought I had an intelligent debate opponent. I see now that you're just an insecure little boy looking for approval w your "know it all" comments. But I think people have already figured that out! Don't be afraid little bunny rabbit, it's a big world out there!
Who's worse? The ignorant prick with a big mouth spewing his opinion on every fucking Yardbirds video on YouTube, or the just as ignorant people slamming him for doing the same thing he's doing?
Shit on people for talking about the fucking subject at hand when your retorts have nothing to do with the topic?
@SKINmodHEAD OK ForeskinHead. You are obviously Assmorgan's buddy. Why do you guys have to include some kind of homosexual reference w every response? Wow I thought I could keep up, but you guys are far more NEGATIVE than I could ever hope to be! You guys have to be filled w hatred if you actually take the time to type out your hatred for others! You guys win !!!
Who's worse? The ignorant prick with a big mouth spewing his opinion on every YB video on here, or the ignorant fucks slamming on him for doing the same they're doing? You're doing the same thing he's doing.
Keep it to the topic. At least he knows how to do that. Nobody ever has anything valid to say, it's all about stuff completely unrelated.
I wouldn't befriend a fan of Lady Gaga. I don't even know the kid!
That's what's wrong with all you fucking little "punk rock" kids.
I grew up totally delved in that subculture, & never once did I come across a code of punk ethics, or rules about what you listen to & what you don't.
I would go from listening to MDC to The Who to Toxic Narcotic to The Fartz to The Kinks in one day...and that didn't make me any less punk than my friends who listened to nothing but the obscure "punk as fuck" crap that the genre is full of.
@asmorgan88 ok first of all, im not a fuckin little kid. im 4 years younger than you.
second, i dont listen to punk and i'm only in the band because my friend didnt know any other guitarist and asked if i could help him out and so i am.
third, the reason they dont give it a chance is because the band is a punk band and only wants to play punk. as much as i'd like to play covers of music i like, they only know how to play punk since its so easy and its what they like.
If you can't buy a beer or rent a car, you're a kid.
I know how close-minded young punk kids are - but, you should remind them that all their favorite bands were influenced by this kind of shit to begin with!
To me, it would be more punk rock to take a song that's not a fucking punk song & make it one, rather than play strict covers of punk bands.
It's funny - punk is all about open-mindedness, & originality...yet most of the kids are close-minded, ignorant, and unoriginal.
@asmorgan88 i still buy beer and dont need to rent a car if i own a truck.
and i fully agree with every thing you just said this time. we make up our own music and i am the one who comes up with riffs and all that but i am heavily influenced by classic rock, rock and roll, and blues rock. people tell me they can hear that in our music and i like the fact that i can make music that isnt fully punk so to speak. but what you said couldn't be more true. i think i'll quote you on the subject too! ha
Even though this is a YB vid... I"ll chime in on the WHO Chat... remember as a teen in the 60's seeing them here in Dallas for the first time... Keith Moon demolishing his drumset and Pete cracking his axe too right on stage... during an encore finish up with My Generation. Still remember that and saying WTF!!!!!!!
Youtube is great cos it gives us access to music we could never actually see, but ur right theres nothing like being there.
Last summer I saw Nick Cave, Elbow, Neil Young,McCartney and Brian Wilson all from the comfort of leaning on the barrier with 20,000 people behind wishing they were where i was - oh and Van Morrison, but nowadays you have to search for when they are playing. Back in the 60/70s it must have been difficult to choose which (great)group to see.
Staying at Tent City in London eons ago..A cool cat sees I'm hungary & broke..Takes me home & makes me a bacon-buttie..I sober up a bit, look around..What the F@@@ ,,It;s Jeff Beck..!!! Tells me he's been there..Over 50 now and wil never forget,,
I`ve always loved this song, the B side of Shapes Of Things back in the 45rpm vinyl days. The picture, however is later because Page was not on this recording, it was Jeff Beck on lead guitar. Thanks for sharing...
wait,,,maybe it was 68 cause i saw Zep in 69 do four sets in two nights,...remember they would do two shows a night back then at the Shrine in LA. the WHo was the greatest night all time,,,walked out at 3 am drenched in sweat....never forget That Night,.
You have no idea how lucky you are to be born into a time period where live music was worth going out of your way to listen to... bands like the yardbirds... acdc... led zep... the who... the rolling stones.. hah id give my left testical to be able to travel in time and see those bands performing live in there prime.. i wouldnt even give my brothers left testicle to go see the fucking killers...
sorry u werent there right next to me...BUT u can't say,,,i didn't know..how lucky i was....i swear to god..i wasnt ur typical hippie kid,,.ok?..when i was 14 in 1965...i still have the WLS,,radio top 30 song lists i would collect...with beatles stones yardbirds KINKS,,who..the cyrkle..the box tops..the standels...herman's hermits...all on there..because i DID know..i knew it was an explosion of music that would be forever loved...as we loved it then....and i'm glad u do too...today.
@Stigolas .i was amazed at the fact that i was THIRTEEN...when i heard the beatles explode onto the usa scene IN '64.after that...it was Hit after Hit after Hit after Hit ...that filled the AM radio....back then there were only like two radio stations in every huge city that played rock an roll...and yeah....i was in bands when i was 16...bass... the thing is..u have youtube. watch the kids screaming and having a riot. THE WHO was the best fuxin live band i ever saw..the absolute best.
Ooo bass player? there very elusive here in britain.. the guitar in general has gone out of favour and i blame that prick akon.. infact being able to sing isnt even a requirment anymore these days.. Haha im brittish so i know only to well of the beatles.. The who the best? kieth moon was one hell of a drummer tis true but u sure zepllin were not better live?? i mean they would play for like 3 hours solid.. even paul macartney was shocked at how long they would play for live.. haha
do 2 sets ..2 nights in a row...the 2nd night on lsd...and i mean 20 feet in front of me...i saw hendrix, kinks, cream, doors, yardbirds, and i saw the who. i saw all these groups 67-69....and no group was louder,,,played faster...was more entertaining than The WHO...TRUST ME.
they fucking rocked like u wouldnt believe it..that's my opinion..take care. (read my profile if u need to)
and i agree with u.singing isnt a art form anymore.. its a lost art.
yeah but now we have white stripes, mgmt, ween, flamming lips, gorillas, etc. there are a lot of good bands out there and stereos are better then ever now.
I saw The Yardbirds play on this tour, in Dallas in '66 with Beck and Page, they blew the house down, they were really, really good.
Old blues records have bits where the bass, guitar, piano, etc. are playing the same licks; all those English guys were listening to those old blues songs, they made it British Blues.
LUCKY YOU i saw them in 69 with just Page,,,and it was great but not that great,,,we didnt like hi pulling out the violin bow and playing his guitar for some reason,,we thought it was to much,,,but i did see Beck on his first tour months later and that was fantastic. saw Cream at the Wiskey and i had my head in Gingers bass drum i was so close. Those days will never be equaled.
Dick Clark Caravan of Stars! The headliner for the show was--gulp--Gary Lewis and the Playboys. I made the rounds of the groups in the show with Charlie Van Dyke of KLIF, and got to meet Beck and Page, who were roomies.
HAHAH - Yeah, they would often be the opening act for SHIT bands like The Association, Strawberry Alarm Clock, Ford Theatre, The Raspberries, & crap music like that.
Pretty funny...but they weren't a good band anyways.
Howard Roberts made a statement decades ago that if you take from one guy its plagarism but if you take from many its research; Hail to the yardbirds research
congratulations, you have just heard THE idea for Led Zeppelin. It did not come from Jeff Beck group, it came from Jeff Beck's work in the Yardbirds, a year earlier. This prototype of heavy blues rock with fuzz guitar doubling the bass came out a year b4 cream, year and a half b4 Hendrix!
Beck & Page were friends who jammed a lot during & before their stays in the Yardbirds. (Clapton quit & recommended Page, Page originally refused & recommended Beck), so "who thought of what first" is never gonna be a sure thing. As with any history of music, all we can go back to is the first available recorded version.
that's essentially what i'm saying, lazur1. If you trace back history, you get to this track which Beck played on, and whose fuzz tone it enabled. I have little doubt that Page was jamming with Beck and they were both connecting dots up to the same heavy blues picture. But credit must go to Beck. Anyways what i'm mainly discrediting is the theory that the Jeff Beck group gave Led Zep the idea. It's all there in the Yardbirds minus the wailing singer.
Where did I hear this story? While they were recording "You're A Better Man Than I" at Sun Studios in Memphis, the engineer told one of the band members that they'd really go places if they'd get a good singer instead of the crappy one they had - and then they turned to find Keith standing right behind them, listening.
congrats man you saw them live!! damn i would give everything to see bands like yardbirds or zeppelin live!! all we have nowadays is my chemical romance and some other shit!!!
In case somebody cares, Jimmy Page joined the Yardbirds as a bassist, to replace Paul Samwell-Smith, then Page and Chris Dreja switched roles and Jimmy & Jeff were both called lead guitarist and that only lasted for one song. "Happenings Ten Years Time Ago". Unless somebody else knows about another recording.
The only other "Beck & Page" Yardbirds song I've heard is, (the Yardbirds re-write of "Train kept a-Rollin"), "Stroll On", which they performed live on-stage, in the movie "Blow-Up".
Happenings Ten Years Time Ago, & Psycho Daisies both have Beck & Page on it...and I'm inclined to say What Do You Want has both of them too, but I could be wrong about that.
1/Yes, Page played bass on "Psycho Daisies". I miss-spoke: I meant the only other Beck & Page double-lead-guitar Yarbirds track, (besides "Happenings" , which had already been mentioned). 2/ I assume you meant: "Just What You Want-Just What You Get", but that isn't a Yardbirds track & credits only Beck.
This was the original B side of Shapes of Things. Very edgy, raw, great blues cover. The picture you show here is a little later as Page had not arrived at this time, even though he did his share of playing these tunes after Beck left. Thanks for sharing.
He was a great frontman, but a prize jerk. My college roommate in 1966 was also the #1 Top 40 DJ in Dallas (go figure), and he asked me to join him on a series of interviews of artists in the Dick Clark Caravan of Stars. The headliner, bleive it or not, was Gary Lewis and the Playboys, but the Yardbirds were also on the tour. We spent some quality time with Jeff Beck and his roomie, Jimmy Page, but Relf told us to f**k off. He died by electrocution not long afterward...
In the mid 60's whenever they would play Keith would leave little notes on Jim's drums saying "if you don't play great tonite, im going to cut your fucking hands off"
Keith William Relf (22 March 1943 - 14 May 1976), is known as the lead singer and harmonica player of The Yardbirds. As per From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
1/The Yardbirds' Dick Clark tour started Oct28'66. Beck was fired Oct29, partly for skipping gigs to see girls, but largely for irrationally almost swinging his guitar, -hard-, onto Relf's head, (according to a Jimmy Page eye-witness account): You saw Page&Beck together for the last time, the 1st gig of the tour, in the middle of all this drama. It's quite understandable that Relf would be be in an unfriendly mood. There are no other similar accounts of Relf. 2/ Relf died 10yrs later.
Saw the Yardbirds in 1965 at local amusement park here in Oklahoma City. Jeff Beck was lead and Jimmy Page had just joined them. Concert cost $5 and was by far the best I had ever seen to date. Wow I'm 61 and still love that music.

idiots will always be idiots..that's why they are called IMBECILES.
they do not know when to stop banging their soft little heads against concrete.
to them it feels really fun, cause they have nothing inside to hurt.
so lets just all leave the scene of this accident, and go home to know we are living the real world,,,and glad to be sane.

Thinking that The Animals are "the fifth best band to come out of England" (AND BEING SERIOUS) proves that you're not living in the real world, fuckstick.
I can think of about 20 bands off the top of my head that enjoyed more success, worldwide, than the fucking Animals, buddy. YOU CAN TOO.

better than Cream and Savoy Brown? I don't think so, but you are entitled to your opinion.
doecarruthers 1 year ago
fact is..i saw live, and up close-up.all the bands i talk about,,,not having listened to them on my mom's tape deck. i had my head stuck in ginger bakers bass drum at the Whiskey Go-Go for Creams first show in LA....so yeah, Cream are right in there, but not in the top five for all time greatness in songwriting and influencing other bands. i saw zepellin do 4 sets in two nights and i sta on the floor 30 feet away. i know my music, yeah..it's my opinion, but really,,, savoy brown?.come on now.
iCHUCK69 1 year ago
@iCHUCK69
So, what the fuck do you know?!
asmorgan88 1 year ago
@asmorgan88 i would never say,if u havent seen a band live it means u cant love them..look at all the girls in love with the beatles,,today who are 14. so i dont know or care where u came up with that. and to say you think cream sucks...tells me right there, you have problems i can't solve or would ever want to help u with.
and lastly...i know a hell of alot more than you do about rock music...and i always will. and i have better taste in music thasn you do too. and that counts bigtime.
iCHUCK69 1 year ago
@iCHUCK69

@iCHUCK69 How about the Animals? They were another big band of that time; although they went into another phase when E. Burdon started a new line-up.
loveoldsongs 1 year ago
@loveoldsongs dont know what your asking about the animals, yes i saw them live in 65, they were huge in the days. we covered about 3 songs in our band of their's. if you listen to Sky Pilot, it is fantastic.
and this guy assholemorgan, knows how to make some of the most ignorant statements.
iCHUCK69 1 year ago
@iCHUCK69
The Animals were not huge...huge egos, maybe.
Those bands are far more popular today than they were then...it's ignorant of YOU to say that they were big back in the day. They weren't at all...a couple tunes on the radio in the 60's didn't make you "huge". My grandfather's band was on the radio in the 60's & he's not fucking huge by any means.
You're claiming you know more about rock & like bands more because you've seen them live - you're fucking ignorant pal, not me.
asmorgan88 1 year ago
The Animals were quite big back then. The Animals were the first British band after the Beatles to have a number 1 single in the US. They didn't last too long (neither did a lot of other groupds back then) as the organist wouldn't fly which messed up tours and Chas Chandler discovered Hendrix and concentrated on management. Burdon is still putting on a good show all these years later.
Maybe a 24 year old who likes professionsal wrestling (FFS) isn't the best judge.
kemptonite 1 year ago
@kemptonite
Ok - that's creepy.
My grandfather's band opened for them in Mendon, MA - they weren't fucking popular.

iCHUCK69 1 year ago
@iCHUCK69
Not one of the bests.
asmorgan88 1 year ago
I only looked at your profile to see if there was anything in there which might make me think there was some reason for thinking you had the slightest idea what you were talking about. Unfortunately it showed there wasn't.
The Animals were a very good group, I've seen everyone on stage Beatles, Stones, every big group you could think of and the Animals were in the top few. and better live than the Stones or the Kinks.
The Animals had 2 records voted in the top ever 500. Not bad for nobodies

It's not my opinion that The Animals aren't one of the greatest bands ever.
That is one of the most ignorant, fan based claims I've ever heard.
I like them - but I'm not an asshole enough to tell people they're one of the best bands ever.
You must be one of those old people hanging onto their youth who thinks : "I saw these bands live, I know music more than you".
Those two albums...on one, there's only ONE original song...the rest are covers.
You have to be original to be good.

Otis Redding is it.
I'm blown away by that guy...every performance I've seen of him is electrifying...especially that tour of the Stax artists in Scandinavia.

It's one thing to be a fan, it's another to make outrageous claims...The Animals being the 5th best band from England is an outrageous fucking claim.
asmorgan88 1 year ago
As a matter of interest I preferred the Yardbirds to the Stones, mainly because of their genuine love of the blues. It was just a shame that Keith Relf was a chronic asthmatic which limited his performances somewhat. Again, the Yardbirds were a great band if you liked watching live bands, same as the Animals. Both of them backed many well known blues artists before they were well known. The Animals made a great live recording with Sonny Boy Williamson in 1963 and the Yardbirds did in 1964.

That's what's wrong with all you fucking little "punk rock" kids.
I grew up totally delved in that subculture, & never once did I come across a code of punk ethics, or rules about what you listen to & what you don't.
I would go from listening to MDC to The Who to Toxic Narcotic to The Fartz to The Kinks in one day...and that didn't make me any less punk than my friends who listened to nothing but the obscure "punk as fuck" crap that the genre is full of.
asmorgan88 1 year ago
@asmorgan88 ok first of all, im not a fuckin little kid. im 4 years younger than you.
second, i dont listen to punk and i'm only in the band because my friend didnt know any other guitarist and asked if i could help him out and so i am.
third, the reason they dont give it a chance is because the band is a punk band and only wants to play punk. as much as i'd like to play covers of music i like, they only know how to play punk since its so easy and its what they like.
toneDeFguitar 1 year ago
@toneDeFguitar
It's funny - punk is all about open-mindedness, & originality...yet most of the kids are close-minded, ignorant, and unoriginal.
asmorgan88 1 year ago
@asmorgan88 i still buy beer and dont need to rent a car if i own a truck.
and i fully agree with every thing you just said this time. we make up our own music and i am the one who comes up with riffs and all that but i am heavily influenced by classic rock, rock and roll, and blues rock. people tell me they can hear that in our music and i like the fact that i can make music that isnt fully punk so to speak. but what you said couldn't be more true. i think i'll quote you on the subject too! ha

Great, great Yardbirds track!
Where did I hear this story? While they were recording "You're A Better Man Than I" at Sun Studios in Memphis, the engineer told one of the band members that they'd really go places if they'd get a good singer instead of the crappy one they had - and then they turned to find Keith standing right behind them, listening.
True story?

So many early Zep songs contained major portions of Yardbirds songs.
I'm not talkin ' is the bones of Moby Dick and the ending here is the lead in to Bring it on Home.
Zep were originally going to be The New Yardbirds.
As much as I love Zep,I still get annoyed when I think of how much Page ripped off from so many people.

Interesting analysis and correct too.
I saw Zep in San Diego in 1977, no better concert have I been to. Deep Purple was a close second in "84

Page only agreed to play bass while Dreja learned to play bass.

Psycho Daisies has both of them too...

He died by electrocution not long afterward...

haha you were there that night!!! did they really tie relf to the mike stand???
IrishWarCry11 2 years ago
Relf was a dick.
its very obvious.
but a great frontman.
In the mid 60's whenever they would play Keith would leave little notes on Jim's drums saying "if you don't play great tonite, im going to cut your fucking hands off"
PeterCRissKISSgod 2 years ago 4
I could play drums with them but I don't want any notes on my drum set.

ElfFarm:
When you say your roomate was the #1 DJ in Dallas in "66, I assume you are talking about KLIF radio. Just curious, was your roommate Jimmy Rabbitt?
I grew up listening to KLIF and the jocks were the motivating factor for me to have a 35+ year career in radio.
BTW, I'm Not Talkin' was my favorite Yardbirds song.
MadJoe1950 2 years ago
Yes, KLIF; No, Jimmy Rabbit. The #1 DJ at the time was Charlie Van Dyke (nee Charles Leo Steinle)...

Great guitar tone on that one.
