We weren't deep enough to consistently beat teams like LSU. We had some talented guys but towards the second half of the year we had some injuries and a season of football wears your body out. We didn't have the talent on the sideline to be able to replace the great athletes we had on the field. In this league you need to have talented guys to back up your starters so they don't wear out too quickly.

Point 2 of yours is correct:: yes he has done better than his predecessors.
Point 1 is flawed because, YES, they did beat LSU in 3 OTs but he still was 2-5 in SEC Play that year. If you can take it to LSU, the eventual NCAA Champ that year, you should be able to do better in SEC Play, in my opinion and 2-5 is awful. Yes the SEC is strong, but if you beat a powerhouse like LSU was that year, you should of done better, thats all i'm saying.
