Don Draper is the best male TV character in a generation. You like him (or love him, if you're a woman) and hate him at the same time, but you always tune in to find out what he does next. It's clever how they set the show in the pre-PC 1960s, but they show women then acting pretty much the same as they act today. They've always been helpless and hopelessly attracted to the Don Drapers of the world. It's biological and rooted in their DNA to want the Alpha male of the species.

I remember observing that dynamic when I was very young; this show is pretty accurate in a lot of those overtones. I agree it's not the best script or actors, but it's kept me watching nevertheless just because of the time warp, and the authentic 60s decor. You can tell I'm older - you will be too, one day and perhaps look back with some perspective on this decade.

@zeromant80 It's the Sopranos without murder; A philandering husband, lots of beautiful women (some powerful, some not), the main character is the king of his world. It's a very similar premise except the era is different. It has a lot more laughs and a lot less "Oh my god" moments. I prefer it to the Sopranos, but I think most (not all) women would.
