I found this game to be more enjoyable than the first version. Especially the random weather feature, which can be truly random. In the previous version, selecting random weather would always result in a wet race; which is not the case here. Plus, some drivers can make mistakes and spin off the track. Apart from that, controlling the car is less challenging than the first version (something I didn't like). I suppose that makes the game more accessible or playable to gamers other than sim drivers
It sucks visually, the HUD takes up loads of space, the draw distancce is pretty bad and everything is dark, but its better than every other F1 game on the 1998 season, apart from one on the dreamcast
These mid-'90s F1 games are much better than the modern ones. Much rather play Formula 1 '97 and Formula 1 ('95) on the original Playstation than F1 2010...
I had an n64 wheel i can't remember what it was called though, i'll find out. I think this is the best f1 game to date, still waiting for the new codemasters f1 game to come out for the 360.
the game looks very similar to the first one. I still have it on my good old N64. Did you think that game is available somewhere in the province of Quebec
I made the mistake of buying this when it came out, the graphics were sweet but it was really tedious, and the multiplayer wasn't a patch on the likes of gran turismo. Avoid unless ur a fan of F1 games. I only played it a few times, and swapped it with a mate for Banjo Kazooie I think.
Mm, twitchy...Was that using the analogue stick? :D
Still, it looks pretty good considering it's age. Oh, and the pre-race screens for Silverstone were funny; "Location: Britain - 100% chance of rain" - mm, that's about right...
I quite like racing games, but the only F1 game I ever got into was Geoff Crammond's Formula One Grand Prix on the ST, which was an absolute belter. Since then I've steered clear (excuse the pun) of serious racers, preferring stuff like Sega Rally and PGR. I did dip my toe into Forza on XBox though - quite enjoyed it to be honest.
Racing games are a funny one with me. During the 16bit era I played as many racing titles as I could but when the days of Sega Rally came around I just started to drift away from them. I think I just always preferred the more arcade/gamey side to the old 2D perspective that a lot of 3D titles just didnt have.
haha, Great stuff! I love F1 :). This game is based on the 99 season, which is when I really started to get into F1 :) Looks pretty accurate to, which is surprising!
I bought this back in the day (still have it) but only played it once as I found that despite the nice smooth speed it showed in the demo it was way to twitchy to control in the actual game. I'm sure I was playing the in-car view though, the external camera looks more managable
I'm suprised at how good this game looks for it's age and on the 64. It was always well spoke about back in the day, but I wasn't prepared to spend £50 on it then. May pick this up
I have been trying to get Keith to a motor sport event for many years but he's yet to budge... I think this shows in his driving - maybe you should try fitting the gravel tyres to your car :P
Quite impressed you knew more than I thought you did about F1 though :)
