  • I know wyatt personally, I went to school with his son. and let me tell you, wyatt can melt a guitar fret board. This is a person that has not only seen him play live but many personal experiences.

  • WOW, when was this?

  • @cantbringmedown about 1991 or 2

  • i wish i sucked as bad as wyatt :P

  • Whoever said wyatt is a tony wanna be is clearly an idiot! Wyatt Rice can burn a guitar up! Im tellin ya! He aint much off from tony rice, if any at all!!

  • Holy cow, what a line up! Sam Bush, mandolin, Jerry Douglas on dobro, Mark Shatz on bass, Wyatt!!! Somebody pinch me! :)

  • Does anyone know where I can find this recording?

  • is that clarences geetar?

  • someone told me "wyatt is the biggest tony wanna be ive ever seen" i laughed so hard...

  • Mark Schatz

  • Too bad he smoked his voice away.

  • @FiddleChick96 He didnt smoke his voice away, he has a disease that affects the vocal cords

  • Damn what a voice!

  • Awesome song and pickin. It shows the influence of Clarence White on Tony Rice's pickin style. Thanks for posting.

  • I had forgotten about this song from years ago and I believe Tony does it better

than anyone. Talented musicians...WOW.! Thanks for posting......

  • inspiration to practice more

  • Jerry sporting the sweet kentucky waterfall!!

  • Great song and awesome musicians. Thanks for the post.

  • Shatz

  • Good Stuff great song

  • Don't know who's uglier, Tony or Clarence.

  • Good sound boys!!

  • Tony Rice Unit comes to the watseka theatre watseka illinois on may 7, 2011

  • Does a mullet make a man?

  • @lus1981 yes

  • nice to see "Borat Rice" playing rhythm guitar!

  • WYATT'S NO SLOUCH, EITHER. I LIKE THE CLARENCE/ WHITE RY COODER VERSION -- IT'S A LITTLE SLOWER, WITH MORE EMPHASIS ON THE VOCALS. BUT THEY'RE BOTH GREAT!!!!!!!!!!

  • Give Mickey Newberry credit for writing it!

  • Does anyone know what kind of Reso Jerry played back then?

  • THis music is best with Jerry Lee Lewis and Stacy Michelle

  • One of my favorite songs for many moons. Enjoy.

  • about the hair/ fag remark ; real men don´t contantly focus on vain stuff like hairlength and run to the hairstylers like little sissys and as a natural consequense theyll let their hair grow to an extended degree as long as it won´t interfer with their practical routines.Pioneers and cowboys were for that reason often known to appear as the prototype hippie as for hair and beardstyle, several presidents aswell. They were the down-to-earth pragmatic kind of fellows.Fags hang around at hairdressers

  • I don't get why Tony Rice isn't more popular. I know he isn't the most credible of artists, but he plays a mean guitar and sings a good tune.

  • @Thisnameistaken11 What a mistake.Tony is the most incredible artis ever played the bluegrass music.

  • Great version but I have to say this, Youtube took down a users video of Clarence White's version live in Sweden, for no particular reason whatsoever. It's one of the best recordings I've ever heard of anything...ever.

  • "Killed a fifth of thunderbird trying to write this sad, sad song".. Hah, gotta love lyrics that just fit with the person singing them. Tony is, was and will continue to be the man.

  • This is a wonderfull video... A great Tune !

  • If taking drugs would help me learning to play like Tony :) I guess that would be the strongest argument I could find for doing it, but fortunately, that doesn't make sense :)

  • It didn't get any better than this!

  • writer: Mickey Newbury

  • What I miss is that rich voice...shame it's gone. What a collection of players.

  • Ha...i miss 80's hair jerry...

  • Great hearing Tony sing, and he and Sam sound good together. Forgot how good Wyatt is too!!! Thanks for posting!!

  • People who call names like "Homo" and "Homophobes" come from the same slime pit. How about not calling names at all? It's so "Third Grade".

  • You're right - been looking back at old vids of Sam etc playing in the early 70's and, sure enough, it's Sam indeed. Apologies. He changed when he grew the face fuzz.

  • My first thought when I saw this was "wow, does Sam ever look strange clean shaven".

  • This is so hot!

  • the guy playing the mandolin is most definitely not Sam Bush by the way. Not sure who it is but it's not Sam Bush.

  • that is Sam Bush

  • Thats Sam and nobody else!!!

  • That is Sam Bush allright. But I see how you'd get confused from him not having a beard.

  • tony plays on a level homo phobes could never understand.....

  • Screw all ya'll! Tony's mini mullet rocks the shit. As I type this i am growing a mullet and a mustache.

  • you have to realize that this about 20 years old. have some respect for professional musicians!

  • Wow, someone has long hair and they're a fag in your eyes. People look no further than this idiot to prove just how stupid some humans can be. Just think, they walk amongst us and they're everywhere.

  • um...tony is married to a woman-fag, no. legend, yes

  • you know Tony was/is a good friend of both Jerry Garcia and Dave Grisman, right? and its not really a big secret that both of them smoked a fair amount of dope-and worse. he hasnt made a big secret of the fact that he's done those sorts of things too, so by extension, he's exactly the sort of hippy girly man you're vilifying, pal.

  • You're obviously a judgmental selfrightous idiot. Nothing he has done has stopped him from being the best flattop picker in bluegrass.

  • did i say he wasnt the best? i think if you read what i said, youll see i didnt. he's one of the best flatpickers ever, if not THE best flatpicker ever. so back off and learn how to read before you start throwing around stuff like "judgmental self righteous idiot".

  • you can kiss my ass

  • you should totally give them all makeovers! that would be so awesome and they would look fabulous!

  • cuz when you can play the dobro like that you do whatever you please

  • Who wrote this song?

  • Micky Newbury

  • Sam and Tony have always worked so sweet togeather vocally.

  • Wyatt Rice is such a killer rhythm picker and as always he is a tasty soloist too.Great song and master playing!!!

  • mullet mania

  • haha. mullet mania. good one.

i wish tony still had that voice.

  • Amen to that brother

  • Whos your fucking daddy! your damn rite he's the man. Never be another like him again

  • @Mar10Guitar I agree completely. I'll give Clarence White his due, but think that Tony single-handedly reinvented flatpicking and bluegrass guitar.

    Great performance!

  • Bluegrass Library--THANKS for this! You have to have the COOLEST collection of tapes anywhere! I love being able to hear and see Mr. Rice sing and love being able to see the "Clarence" Martin!

  • Sam Bush is great, but he sounds pretty lousy singing harmonies.

  • Amen to you!

  • Comment removed

  • @BoxCubeSquare There's nothing wrong with the harmonies; they just have his mic turned up a little too loud.

  • Hey! If you want a piedmont blues expeience, check out the group PIEDMONT PROJECT. There you get the stringband alternative. They have been said to "keep it real".

  • Mash It Wyatt!!!!

  • Hey, Urfaceisloburn, you're just jealous, otherwise you'd not make such evil-toned comments. GAG!!!!

  • Whata a f%#@in' stupid comment.

  • This is not Roy Huskey, Jr on the bass its mark shetz

  • Thanks for pointing out my error. I corrected it.
