A Genius playing another Genius ..... My favourite composer , my favourite pianist , my favourite concerto . Another splandid performance is by Bashkirov
This is exactly why I refuse to believe those who say that pure or good music is dead. It never dies, it goes through generations and keeps killing people by its sheer beauty.
It feels like falling into deep water, but no fear. At any time, it takes us all to me in depth. To the same time with the keyboard is slowly sinking. Name lost.
Boundaries of the skin off the air. Be absorbed into the flow. I go through something. However, there is no fear
This performance still thrills me ever as much as it did when I first heard it some twenty years ago. The energy, vitality, drive of the thing -- yet remaining supremely graceful all the while -- is simply captivating. How Gould brings this music to LIFE! Marvelous!
Just so everybody gets the right information, Bach wrote for Cembalo, NOT piano...thats why it is so hard and almost impossible to get the write tone that bach wanted, on piano...Lot of people are not well informed, i do not know why....
@chobrocoli haha, i agree with you. Unfortunately you see that kind of comments on Youtube. The other day i had an argument with someone who wrote : i'm proud to be Hungarian (for Liszt).

Eternamente agradecido
Actually, you'll find that Bach uses the term Cembalo, which, in his time was a loosely used generic term and could mean one of several stringed keyboard instruments. Being that the harpsichord was the choice keyboard for chamber music in Bach's time, it IS very likely that the concerti were intended to be played on the harpsichord, however were not relegated to it specifically.
@KennYWooD2 Handel also used the Cembalo sometimes, although he was partial to it. He used it in his oratorio Joshua for example. But you don't hear of the instrument much.
il Largo è qualcosa che riguarda il Paradiso più che la Terra.
Largo is something concerning Heaven more than Earth.

The moment the Piano (or Harpsichord) starts playing always makes me excited. What a astounding melody!

Superb music. I prefer harpischord interpretations but Bach is fabulous and sounds modern no matter how you shape it.

This conrto portends so many later composers. I can Mozart and Chopin in this, and a bit of Beethoven.

@chobrocoli I wasn't aware a Canadian nationality was a drawback. If anything, I think it's a advantage.

In my view, Bach's best harpsichord concerto played by the finest exponent of Bach's music. Thank you :-)

It's not a harpsichord concerto.
