It's a pretty much clear blues sky over the dust devil, no cloud base for it to connect to, therefore it cannot be a tornado.

And yes, dust devils are usually very weak. One strong enough to do light damage are rare but not unheard of.

@gusbest1 you can't see tornadoes or dustdevils, just the pollutants they pick up. when a tornado starts to decend you see it because clouds have their own pollutant gases that you see swirling down for it, that's why if you see a tornado running over a highway the bottom half of it disappears until it goes back to some dust or water or something that gives it it's visual shape. IF you see red dirt, you have a red tornado in otherwords. Purple water, purple tornado!... wait...

@gusbest1 tornadoes are different than a dust devil whirlwind for the sheer fact tornadoes are produced from supercell storm clouds. Another reason is that tornadoes DECEND when forming where dust devils ASCEND.

no, they aren't. tornadoes need a supercell cloud by base, and they don't appear suddently. are lots of evidences to previse a tornado, like green sky, strong winds, mammatus clouds under another one. this is just a dust devil, a dust whirpool that forms when the climate is too arid and the terrain is flat.

I dont understand why a lot of people here are all talking that winds can or can not kills you, but it is debris that kill people. The fact is, dust devils usually develop in sandy areas with not many objects available to be picked up and the winds are les violent. But if you have bad luck and you would encounter a violent dust devil and you would get hit by debris you could die. But because most of these dust devils develop in the desert there isnt a big chanche to be hit by by big debris.

Yes, dust devils DO have tremendous power! There was one in the Arizona desert that did some serious damage to a house! Me and my nephew saw the whoe thing! It was at least 200ft tall and from the turbulence on the ground and the trail it left, you bet it could lift someone up! People have even died from them! One knocked down a shed ankilled a girl!
