  • Troy, I think 5700 of the 5787 views so far were me!!! hahahahaaaa, love it!

  • @twinstickpete

Geez, I finally thought I was getting popular.

  • Thank you so much for having this video. We're doing this song for Battle of the Bands and no matter what I did I just couldn't get it. Thanks again!

  • @purpleXshades

Thank you. I'm really glad you found it helpful. Good luck.

  • How exactly do you see out of that one-eyed cyclops mask back there?

    Also, your playing is godlike.

  • @RotnRoll77

Most of the masks I have are "display" copies which means they have no vision or breathing holes cut into them and cannot be worn. The two cyclops masks happen to both be wearable copies and have small holes cut on both sides of the eye. Thanks.

  • Sounds great

  • @idigcars

    Thanks.

  • @TJH3113 You're welcome. Always a pleasure to watch your stuff. Very inspirational{and i love your taste in bands}. Happy Holidays from NJ

  • Can you also do a breakdown of the freewill solo bass part?

  • @cdokinawa

At some point I will do that.

  • @Owenatorz

    Thanks. I'm glad.

  • Finally!!! Eureka...there's gold in them thar hills! Troy, I've finally learned how to play through this part; thanks to you, of course!!! I promised myself 15 minutes a day to study just what the hell your left hand does (so amazingly) & it has paid off well for me! This part would tear me to shreds because my drummer will not "fudge" his part to accommodate me when I would mess up the riff by placing the build-ups at the wrong times! He simply stops & we go over it again & again ad nauseum!

  • @SteamDriven3

I'm really happy that the video assisted you in learning the part. I applaud your drummer for his diligence - it's exactly what I would have done if it were me. Repetition is the key.

  • Are you using any distortion in this one? Sounds like there might be a tiny bit.

  • @Xanadu1115

I do believe I was playing through my SansAmp Bassdriver pedal with just a bit of "drive" in there.

  • what strings are you playing with?

  • @ohlb1

These are GHS Boomers - light gauge. I tried a set of Rotosounds RS 66LC on my Rickenbacker recently and I'm not sure what the fuss is all about.

  • Brilliant! I'm running out of compliments for you so you're gonna have to mess up soon - lol

  • @floouk

Thanks. You could just hit the "like" button if you like.

  • Thanks so much. I'm the guy that asked for you to post this. You've made it so much easier for me to learn this solo part. My band and myself thank you!

  • @bronx420420

Your welcome. I'm really glad that you found it helpful. Take care. Maybe you'll post it sometime?

  • Where are you from? I recognize a few of those masks. I have the pumpkin head.

  • @NASCAR1418

I live in New Windsor, NY. Most of the masks are from Deathstudios.

  • Thanks for this lesson...very helpful....Love your mask collection as well!!!

  • @jeph67

You're welcome, thanks for watching. Most of the masks are from Deathstudios.

  • You are awesome Professor!! This is really revealing and helpful , a million thanks for posting it, also love the Yyz tutorial and all your other recent and past covers of course

  • @neolz

Thank you very much. I hope it is of some help to you.

  • Great job, really helps, thanks.

  • @Zeon707

Excellent. Glad to hear that. Thanks.

  • Your videos prove very useful for many people, including me. I cannot learn music by ear like you can; I have to see it as well as hear it. This song happens to be one I really want to learn on bass...eventually. ^_~

I'd be honored if you were to teach me. I'll nevrer get back to it if I'm stuck teaching myself. But I'll figure something out. XD

I also love your bass tone. It reminds me of the Rickenbacker in the original recording. <3

  • @EntustinMeYourLife

Well this section is the most challenging part of the song so it wouldn't be a bad place to start if you were going to learn it. You know - get the tough stuff out of the way first and all that jazz.

My Rickenbacker is in the shop and consider myself lucky to have another nice bass like this one - it's beginning to grow on me more and more.

Rumor has it that Geddy used the Jazz bass on much of the "Moving Pictures" album...oops, out of characters...

  • Don't ever take that pick guard off ever again!

..And unbutton that top button Dr. Evil!! ;)

  • @nikoguy

It only comes off when I adjust the truss rod. I prefer it on myself. And the shirt stays buttoned.

  • greeeeat tone!!!, I remember when I started playing this song, This part made it impossible for me :S,

  • @duilkin

Thanks. Hard to imagine you having difficulty with this song.

  • @TJH3113 hehehehe, Well, I mean years ago when I started to play Rush, (2003) was all an evolution for me :D

  • Nice job. You have a really nice fat and warm bass tone. Is that a Geddy signature Jazz Bass? It looks like one based on the look of the inlays on the neck. But Geddy Jazz Bass or not it's really shiny.

  • @k726able

Thanks. It is a Geddy Lee model. They started offering it in a Sunburst finish and after seeing hundreds of black ones decided to grab this one when I saw it. And shiny it is.

  • I can only hope that you recieve as much joy creating your videos and inspiring people to play, as we do from watching and being inspired. Very nicely done.

  • @FearOfTheDark987

Thank you. That was a very kind comment and I thank you for it.

I enjoy doing the covers because, though I've played some of these songs hundreds of times before, I've never heard (much less seen) myself play them. So that's kind of a thrill. As is anytime I receive a comment from someone who tells me one of the videos helped them in some way.

The tutorials are another thing. But I'll try to come up with some format that works and is not too stressful.

  • Nicely done! And I must agree with the guy who said YYZ

  • @JimmyJames714

Yeah, I know. There's just so much going on in YYZ, I need to figure out how to approach it. I'll probably break it into sections.

This sort of thing is not my specialty.

  • Ain't braggin, ain't boastin...but I think I've got this one almost, sorta, kinda in the bag!

Troy, just watching where you place your hands has improved my playing so much!

    Kudos!

  • @SteamDriven3

    Good. I'm glad it helped.

  • If ever I'm up near the old Steinberger factory...coffee's on me (my treat that is! I'm sure you'd prefer it in a cup)! Thank you! I feel this video was put up for my eyes only!

  • @SteamDriven3

I'll take you up on that. I hope the video is of some use to you. Thanks.

  • THANKS TROY! :D this has be driving me nuts, now I can play the part once my bass is fixed!

  • @Annonymus121

    Good. I hope it helps.

  • I say less bass playing and more talking! ;-)

  • This is great. I like how you slowed it down. This will help us learn the part better. I've struggled with the timing and your playing make it more clear.

You might be onto something here Troy.

    Thanks for sharing with us.

  • @constantine2112

    Thank you Constantine.

  • great job

  • @prizim

    Thank you.

  • Come on, people. What we really need is YYZ!

  • @Legionbass19

    Patience.

  • Can you talk?

  • ....... and The Trees.

  • @mdotn9

    ditto.

  • Thanks Troy. Care to break down Tom Sawyer now?

  • @mdotn9 He probably won't. He says he doesn't really like Tom Sawyer.

  • @mdotn9

I'll put it on my list.

  • Whoa! The first time i have ever heard you speak! What a cool video!

    ~Steve

  • @SteveShivik

Yes. I learned to speak just for this video. Thanks.

  • @TJH3113 Sure :D Loved Hearing you!
