Most of the masks I have are "display" copies which means they have no vision or breathing holes cut into them and cannot be worn. The two cyclops masks happen to both be wearable copies and have small holes cut on both sides of the eye. Thanks.
Finally!!! Eureka...there's gold in them thar hills! Troy, I've finally learned how to play through this part; thanks to you, of course!!! I promised myself 15 minutes a day to study just what the hell your left hand does (so amazingly) & it has paid off well for me! This part would tear me to shreds because my drummer will not "fudge" his part to accommodate me when I would mess up the riff by placing the build-ups at the wrong times! He simply stops & we go over it again & again ad nauseum!
I'm really happy that the video assisted you in learning the part. I applaud your drummer for his diligence - it's exactly what I would have done if it were me. Repetition is the key.
Thanks so much. I'm the guy that asked for you to post this. You've made it so much easier for me to learn this solo part. My band and myself thank you!
You are awesome Professor!! This is really revealing and helpful , a million thanks for posting it, also love the Yyz tutorial and all your other recent and past covers of course
Your videos prove very useful for many people, including me. I cannot learn music by ear like you can; I have to see it as well as hear it. This song happens to be one I really want to learn on bass...eventually. ^_~
I'd be honored if you were to teach me. I'll nevrer get back to it if I'm stuck teaching myself. But I'll figure something out. XD
I also love your bass tone. It reminds me of the Rickenbacker in the original recording. <3
Well this section is the most challenging part of the song so it wouldn't be a bad place to start if you were going to learn it. You know - get the tough stuff out of the way first and all that jazz.
My Rickenbacker is in the shop and consider myself lucky to have another nice bass like this one - it's beginning to grow on me more and more.
Rumor has it that Geddy used the Jazz bass on much of the "Moving Pictures" album...oops, out of characters...
Nice job. You have a really nice fat and warm bass tone. Is that a Geddy signature Jazz Bass? It looks like one based on the look of the inlays on the neck. But Geddy Jazz Bass or not it's really shiny.
Thanks. It is a Geddy Lee model. They started offering it in a Sunburst finish and after seeing hundreds of black ones decided to grab this one when I saw it. And shiny it is.
I can only hope that you recieve as much joy creating your videos and inspiring people to play, as we do from watching and being inspired. Very nicely done.
Thank you. That was a very kind comment and I thank you for it.
I enjoy doing the covers because, though I've played some of these songs hundreds of times before, I've never heard (much less seen) myself play them. So that's kind of a thrill. As is anytime I receive a comment from someone who tells me one of the videos helped them in some way.
The tutorials are another thing. But I'll try to come up with some format that works and is not too stressful.
If ever I'm up near the old Steinberger factory...coffee's on me (my treat that is! I'm sure you'd prefer it in a cup)! Thank you! I feel this video was put up for my eyes only!
This is great. I like how you slowed it down. This will help us learn the part better. I've struggled with the timing and your playing make it more clear.
Troy, I think 5700 of the 5787 views so far were me!!! hahahahaaaa, love it!

How exactly do you see out of that one-eyed cyclops mask back there?
Also, your playing is godlike.

Are you using any distortion in this one? Sounds like there might be a tiny bit.

what strings are you playing with?
ohlb1 10 months ago
@ohlb1
These are GHS Boomers - light gauge. I tried a set of Rotosounds RS 66LC on my Rickenbacker recently and I'm not sure what the fuss is all about.
