Wheatons were bred for work, and some do still hold a bit of working breed in them, rabbits keep them fit and on their toes, they were used mainly as a herder and a hunter years and years ago and were used for going to ground and coming face to face with badger, which most could handle and come out on the winning end.
I have two wheatens and I would never let them off leash like this. You can hear traffic in the background of the video; was there a road nearby? these dogs will chase anything on to the road and get run over.
That dog will never catch a rabbit, but he can sure try.
