  • Hi Nightspirit, agree exactly with your quote. I now have a Nissan GTR which is as easy as a Subaru to handle, no surprises, although being mor erear wheel drive it is twitchy. I also have an R500 and it really is a handful. So I can better the Subaru lap in both car but I am no where near confident enough to try to get to my Nissan time of 7;40 in the R500. I am around 7:55. The car can do it, but I do not like hospital food....

  • I take it Nickthebassist is a TVR owner? why would a 340hp TVR need to be modded? the modern breed have over that stock. I own a Tamora with 350hp, the chassis/coilovers etc are perfect for track abuse but as Jack says, I doubt (yet to try) I'd have the confidence in the FR setup to produce a better time than I would in my 4WD Golf R32. The Tam has the power but is twitchy as hell.

  • Always good to visit the ring..Funny to see some nice crashes and watch mangled ppl get cut out and shit...hahahaha

  • @stewgenelec Prick

  • Bro that is insane, some awesome driving and very nice sti

  • @Dazecentral - Thanks. It is an open tourist day so lots of drivers not checking their mirrors. Notice the black 911 993 at the bottom of the hill who clearly did not see me...he took the apex....glad I held back as that is 125 mph there.

  • as much as i would love to be in this car i would also love to be in one of those cars you passed on the straights!

  • @Bigdadyfast - me too! A lovely selection of fine trackware.

  • Put me in a 340bhp TVR and I WILL absolutely destroy that Subaru. They're good, but a modded TVR will leave it eating shit (and remember your Scooby is modded so using a modded TVR is fair).

  • @Nickthebassist01 - I would hope so! The TVR is far lighter so it should be quicker than a scooby!

Although you will of course see in video I do sail past a TVR :).

However, not that many cars that can monster the 'ring in 8:20, except supercars - the key point about the Scooby is that it is really an extremely well balanced car, easy to drive.

I was at the 'ring today in my R500 - it ought to whack the scoob, yet I find it hard getting under 8 minutes - there is also some skill needed.....

  • how much more power or other mods do you think it would have taken to break the 8 minute mark. also thanks for the quick reply

  • @hugebassfishing - Wider tyres would help, change the camber settings at the front to reduce understeer, no more power needed, that is not the issue. Or have a better driver! I am sure a top driver would be close to 8 minutes!

  • what was your time around the ring in the sti?

  • @hugebassfishing - I managed it around in 8:19 and I think that was close to what I could have achieved. Maybe I could have got it down to 8:12 or so but that was a memorable and special lap.

  • i wish i had access to a track easily around my area this seems like it would be a blast to do!

  • The GT-R is awesome compared to the Subaru but so is the cost! The Subaru was a brilliant car, had it four years and really hammered it. No issues appeared. And not a massive differencein lap times. I think likely around 7% or so, which is not much given that the Nissan has so much more power and costs double.....

  • Nice driving there mate, you are a race driver at his best.I own an 03 wrx n I know how good they are on normal roads(in Britain)They are good given the right suspension and brake setup and a bit of the right tuning needed.Your a lucky man to own a GT-R aswell.Stick to the jap cars mate, they never go wrong despite the hammer you give them.

  • @skyline748 that is soo true, subarus r a awsome car and yess jap cars for ever!!

  • This dude is not a novice. I have a GT-R 33, a ZZR1100 and i know what speed is about. this is serious fast driving with a hint of racing driver behind the wheel. ( ps nice job done on the M3 )

  • Interesting you have a GT-R 33, I recently got a GT-R 35 to replace the Subaru. The above lap equates to a Bridge to Gantry lap of around 8:35. I did manage 8:19 in the Subaru, and on a fairly busy day managed 7:58 in the GT-R 35. I have no doubt I can get it down to at least 7:45 if the track is clear, just waiting for spring for the snow to get off the track! So imagine a lap that is 15% faster than the above and you have it! The R35 is a truly amazing car.

  • Get a friggin camera mount.

  • man i wish i could have the money to do that kind of stuff, maybe one day i will be able to, its good to have goals in life hahaha

  • STi wins in the curves and the 997 Turbo knows it, so he moves over. Of course he will win on the straight. The car just has ecotek chip tuning, fuel pump upgrade and down pipe.

  • ...maybe the Porsche driver sees you in the mirror and thinks " better let this boy racer past me, safer than the idiot side swiping my expensive Porsche!!" haha. ps I have both cars,Porsche is only 996 C2 but both very good, but I prefer scooby for everyday use!

  • I also have a 996 Turbo and a Scooby STi (and a Caterham R500 and a Nissan GTR). I can assure you, as a regular Nordschleife driver, that the Subaru is a fantastic track tool and much easier to handle than a 996.

Subaru is really great - GTR is better but also rather more expensive.

Subaru is for sale, by the way.

    I wish I was still a boy.....those days are gone, I'm afraid.... :(

  • Does a standard WRX STi beat a 997 in the corners...?

  • Depends. I would say yes. In very tight corners it beats almost anything and at high speed it is much easier on the limit than a 911. I only once lost a car at 160kph (100mph) and that was a 997S. I managed to get it back under control but was close as there was no run off. Subaru is very predictable on the limits. Suspension on the car in the video is all standard, just the ECU is tuned and has a different exhaust.

  • I knew the STi was fast in the corners, but I never knew it could cope with a 997.

But the limit of a car should only be hard to tell if you're inexperienced with it, right?

I'm just a fan of racing, I've never tried to push a car to the limit, so by the looks of it, you're WAY more experienced than me :P

  • As an aggressive enthusiast, I would always put a Subaru ahead of a 997! The issue with the 911 is at high speed, the engine tends to pull the car at the back and it bounces, it does not slide. It is maybe different for a professional racing driver, but as someone who regularly drives on the track and has owned a 996 Turbo for four years, I simply find it unacceptably bouncy at speed. The Subaru is flawless right up to 150mph, you always know what it will do. Mitsubishi EVO is equally good.

  • My dreamcar is a Subaru, so hearing this from an experienced driver is just like music to my ears!

The Subaru ain't built to deal with 150 mph though, that's about the same as its top speed if I'm not mistaking(?)

  • 160 or so is top speed. it gets there quickly, issue is drag mainly.

even the basic wrx is fun. You do not need a powerful one.

  • nice driving, i don't think the 997 turbo was really pushing it that hard though, anyways what do you have done, hydra? upgraded to a 20g turbo?
