Perhaps it had something to do with over 12 million album sales. Or the #1 hit they had in 26 countries. Or the four US billboard top 20 hits they had off their 3rd album. Or the solid album they recently released.

Festivals should have varied line ups. I mean it's a great way to see a bunch of different bands that wouldn't ordinarily tour together.

I'm sure we'd all have our different 'best ever' festival line ups. And even one persons preferences would change over the years...

Firstly insulting people who have alternate views is childish and it won't change their mind. Try debate, though admittedly that would take comprehension skills....

You're missing the point - it is not possible to compare them to those bands. They are totally different. They are not and have never claimed to be a 'metal' band (though their music draws some elements from metal). Just because they are a 'one guitar' band does not make them 'weak'.

I can't stand COF but I really think what happened to them was horrible and heartless, I saw a statement by the band and there was a terminally ill child in a wheel chair at the side of th stage, not really what he wanted to see, his favourite band (shit or otherwise, he obviously likes them) get cut short because of some selfish cunt, and even more worrying it could have hit him! It could have killed him.

I don't really care if they are a metal band, (they can play metal if they want) they were the first hard rock - metal band i ever heard and they got me into hard music and ROCK in general like so many other kids in the 80's like me. Europe had many metal moments in the first 2 lp's. Writing feelgood anthems like this is what makes you a legend , and Europe is legendary. Rock ON! \m/ !

I'll be honest, I only saw these guys for The Final Countdown, but they were an amazing performance throughout the whole set. There other stuff is high quality rock, not my kind of thing but they are more than a one hit wonder that's for sure.

Its been long overdue that all these so called pure metallers..gave this band the credit they deserve. They were a kick as ROCK band before The Final Countdown in 86 and remained so after and up to today.

Have the nay-sayers heard START FROM THE DARK? or the new record? Very Deep Purple / UFO / Lizzy-ish.

The Final Countdown song was both a blessing and a curse for this band as sadly some people can't see beyond it.

I'm glad they didn't get bottled. They really don't deserve it. Hopefully they changed alot of peoples prejudices/ misconceptions of this band. Sure they aren't a metal band and may have been a bit out of place headlining this festival, but I'm glad that the majority of people gave them the respect they deserve.

I don't think Europe are anything like as loud as most of the other bands that were there. They (Europe) only use 50 watt amps for the guitars, whereas most rock bands use 100 watt amps.
