  • Lol what a fag

  • This isn't narcolepsy...

  • I have mild cataplexy, thank God. I feel sorry for those who are severe. Last night I cracked up so much, my legs and arms gave up on me. Then so I wouldn't touch the floor, my husband held on to my arms and it hurt so bad. I was telling him to let go, but he said he wouldn't let me lie on the floor because it was dirty, I guess. It's so annoying...

  • not is narcolepsy

  • when they are collapsing that is Cataplexy, not Narcolepsy....

  • yeah Narcolepsy is when they fall asleep right?

  • @writeonyourhand Cataplexy is one of the most prominent syndromes of narcolepsy.

  • that's so sad!!

  • Oh so sad.

Sorry but i serious would really wanna experience what they feel. Just for a day.

    I bet it sucks.

  • thats sad :(

  • Would be helpful to have subtitles - the man has a very strong accent.

  • so sad

  • This is most definitely NOT fake. What you think you know about narcolepsy is wrong. These dogs are not sleeping, the are experiencing CATAPLEXY--the diagnostic sign of narcolepsy. Look it up.

  • Thiss is not a fake video, we had to watch it in our Brain and behavior class about narcolepsy. There's another video with these same dogs and room that accompanied our textbook.

  • unless you're an insomniac =P

  • These dogs look to have been trained to act to play sleep, the first two are really what gave it away. When they suffered their first 'attack' the dog, having been surprised by his approach, got half way up when he was saying it "had no muscle tone".

  • um........no.

  • damn ur stupid

  • oh gosh thank you =). I guess everyone who doesn't believe absolutely everyone and everything in front of them is real just MUST be stupid. I've seen narcolepsy and this just isn't it.

  • This is not a trick or a myth, this is a genetic disorder that has been studied extensively. Look up the canine HCRTR2 gene. This condition is caused by a single locus genetic mutation and occurs quite a bit in Dobies. Why in the heck would anyone bother to train a dog to fake narcolepsy? Maybe you should look up information on a topic before you decide if it's real. Try Online Mendelian Inheritance in Animals :)

  • Why people make alot of fake videos is anyone's guess. I'm not saying the condition doesn't exist, i'm just saying this video is CLEARLY fake. Maybe you should read someone's post before you decide to respond? :)

  • Their behavior is exactly in line with the classic presentation of this disorder. It's great that you are skeptical but take this opportunity to educate yourself. Those dogs are paying no attention to the people in the room, if they were trained to "fake narcolepsy" they would have to receive some sort of cue to do it and all they are paying attention to is each other ... dogs are not multitaskers ... even if there were cues directed at them the dogs wouldn't have noticed.

  • A dog can be trained to do anything from any cue. A phrase as simple as "There it goes" Can be enough. The dog's are well trained I must admit but that doesn't make this video any less fake.

  • If you note he never says that they fall asleep, merely that becoming too excited results in muscle paralysis(which I take to mean complete muscle relaxant). Presumably the effects are reversed when they calm down. As their owner, trainer or at least someone who spends a lot of time with them the man's immediate presence would have a calming effect on them, explaining why they tend to get up when he comes near or handles them. However once they calm down and try to play again...

  • As anyone who owns a dog can attest, they do not become calmer with the introduction of your pressence! Dogs are, if anything, more excited to recieve attention from their owner

  • under normal circumstances yes. However think of more trying times, certainly my dog was terrified of thunder but would become calm if someone he knew sat by him. It's a similar effect these dogs have their bodies simply collapse while they are still conscious, this brings about excitement(in the form of worry or whatever it's negative connotation is) the man's presence then becomes a reassuring and calming factor. and trust me no, the dogs would never become used to that.

  • BerryBell I have to agree with you! these dogs don't seem narcoleptic. as I understood reading about this desorder they suddenly fall asleep or feel the urge to go to sleep when they get very excited. These dogs are clearly very excited but don't fal asleep right away. And... besides I've never seem a dog sleeping with eyes opened and wagging their tails.

  • AND... iv'e seen other videos around here with what seemed to me to be the real thing... the poor dog really fight the urge to go to sleep. and they just don't wake up with a simple clap of their owner's hands.

it's something they really CANNOT control.

  • I live with Narcolepsy. If you listened to him..They were in a Cataplexy state..

  • Do those fainting goats have narcolepsy too?

  • no. the goats dont sleep, their legs just get stiff

  • Whats really odd is how the Dobermans seem to have an attack at the same time. Each time one would go down the other would do so as well.... hmm I wonder if there is any kind of connection. Or juts coincidence.

  • pfft. wish I could get to sleep that easy.

  • i want one!

  • look it up, the dogs don't suffer at all, sleeping isn't painful.

  • yeah the only thing that wood suck is u miss over half the things in life by sleeping

  • humans live 1/3 of their life sleeping

  • Is that a good thing?

  • and perhaps smaking their jaw on the floor when they just fall down :P

  • very poor dogs. i heard its a genetic disorder.

  • aww poor dogs

  • wow

  • life... always stranger than fiction

  • film gibi yazık be :(

  • this is sooo sad yet funny....
