I am a newbie diver, just recently certified. What kind of tank/tanks are they using? They look very streamlined. Much better than the huge tank I'm using, I want one.
@lisolangka Protect and conserving an unendangered species causes overpopulation, which is dangerous to the environment, especially with a predator fish like grouper.
@AssaultCrusader they keep saying they're critically endangered but at the same time say they don't know have enough information. what the heck is really going on with this species? can we shoot them already?
I simply do not understand a fisherman's need to catch or kill large fish. It is not sustainable to kill animals that grow and reproduce so slowly. Apart from the fact that there is just no reason other than sport and ego to injure and kill such beautiful fish. Giant Sea Bass, very similar to these, almost went extinct along the California coast. It is still endangered after 20 years of protection. It's like cutting down a giant old-growth tree--they don't grow back in our lifetime.
You have to realize the vast majority of people, especially Americans are complete idiots. The only thing they understand are their primitive urges and thus they want to kill anything that moves. They don't understand complex ideas like grouper reproduction, all they understand is that they want to kill something.
That species are truly huge. I read an account of a giant grouper in South America that swallowed a child - it swam up near the shore and opened it's mouth and as the water rushed in it sucked the child into its mouth. The grouper swam away and no one was able to rescues the child.
I was diving in Cozumel a few years back and had an underwater camera that I was using extensively. At one point, I took a picture and when I moved the camera away from my face one of these big guys was about two feet to the right of my face. How I didn't see it before I'll never know, but it certainly caught me off guard. They are giant!

@lisolangka Indeed. And if we're to hunt anything, it should be BP employees.
