You think this is bad? My cousin in Romania had his phone stolen in the subway. At least the gypsy that stole it was polite enough to take out the SIM card and put it back in my cousin's pocket without him even noticing!!

I was in Rome and Madrid this past summer, and I didn't encounter many pickpocketers; however, I went with my church, and they told us to never leave anything in your pocket or wear a fannypack. I had to wear a little pocketbook around my chest underneath my shirt so that I knew where my money was. We also had bookbags (this was a trip for World Youth Day; every participant got a bookbag), and we wore them over our stomaches in the metro. One kid got his bookbag switched when in a restaurant.
Meeting someone, I got bombarded in front of the Grand Opera in Paris by a female who said I had dropped a gold wedding band. I told her it was not mine. She begged for money for it. I insisted her to keep it. She followed me everywhere, begging. I finally got so angry I acted like I was going to throw it in the traffic. She started yelling at me in some other language and walked away.
She was good, seasoned. Trust no one and keep your goods, money and wear NO JEWELRY.

This people are not Indian. They are con artist from their own land. So mostly they are from Italy. If it's Indian then their skin wl be tan- not this white....

You should've seen them in Bulgaria when I went there back in 2004. 6 year old kids holding new born babies asking for money, bears with chains hooked to their noses and hookers all over the place. Needless to say, they didn't get a single cent from me.
The real Bulgarians treated them by beating the shit out of them for begging, which was probably the highlight of my trip over there.
Ummm, that's very rare lol, even Americans that haven't been to Europe are VERY aware of gypsies. We have them here. Particularly, in the city I work in, for years they're known for stumbling out of a business beaten up by business owners and staff for getting stupid trying to con or rob. Maybe, after the 30th punch to the face would an American say "ok, that's enough, your gonna kill him." That's the only defense I've ever heard.

I've been to Rome twice (my favorite city in the world) and Naples once. Naples felt pretty sketchy and chaotic, lol. It felt like exactly what it was...a city run by the mafia. However, Rome feels very safe. These are just gypsies, you watch out for gypsies and the occasional "innocent looking old man" and you'll be fine. Notice the Italians stand up for the tourists in Rome. Same thing happened to me when a gypsy approached me. I've traveled all through Europe and never had anything stolen.
You are right that I have not been there, however, looking at the video, with the type of police responds to complaints by tourists, I do not wish to be in Italy for holiday.

i have seen gypsies in india. i will never forget that! the young men rode in front and carried the babies and very young animals, i remember clearly a young man with a very small animal on his shoulders,then came the old men and then the young women, some carried their babies and then again came the young men, protecting the women and their babies, and i was most impressed. never say a bad word about gypsies, they are just traveling people, the way we were at one time.

I've been to Rome twice (my favorite city in the world) and Naples once. Naples felt pretty sketchy and chaotic, lol. It felt like exactly what it was...a city run by the mafia. However, Rome feels very safe. These are just gypsies, you watch out for gypsies and the occasional "innocent looking old man" and you'll be fine. Notice the Italians stand up for the tourists in Rome. Same thing happened to me when a gypsy approached me. I've traveled all through Europe and never had anything stolen.
