say that kind of idiot "lifestyle bla bla bla" shit around musicians (like the ones who work their whole life at creating/writing/whatever the hell they do, instead of having a normal life)
and they will whack you upside the head. with a Fender Precision or whatever else is at hand.
He wasn't trying to wow anyone with his playing in this video.. he was simply talking about this bass.. you fucks that say he can't play have probably never picked up an instrument in your life so shut the fuck up already.
i gotta get my self a p bass. all i got is a squier affinity j bass that i got from an amp pack at my local music store. and now i'm thinkin' about a little more low end as appose the the growl i get from my j bass.
@TWoehrer He was actually doing his walking bassline pretty well. I think he probably knows how to play different styles. It's just that all we hear is his recorded stuff. He's probably isn't "elite" but like you said, he solid for what he does.
@LouBass09 idk, tele headstocks just always looked out of proportion to me. all the weight and visual dominance are on the top side (more wood and the machineheads) then the other side just looks so weak.
@shutsosumunaki Oh I see, if you're a real bassist you aren't allowed preference... yeah i remember that one. Bass police, come arrest this man, he should not be allowed choice. Apparently.
@shutsosumunaki if he can't play for shit, then explain how green day is one of the most popular bands in america and how green day keeps coming out with amazing music and they released eight studio albums, six live albums, three compilation albums and three EPs and you're telling me mike can't play for shit? if he couldn't play green day wouldn't be as far as it is now
Looking at the specs of this bass, both the Fender-Mexico and Squier versions, it surprises me that Fender isn't prominently advertising its best feature: The neck profile, and nut width, are essentially right between a thicker/wider Precision Bass and a thinner/narrower Jazz Bass.
I own a different bass with a similar kind of neck — and it feels perfect.
@charmanderstail It is the "cheaper" version of Fender but, like Epiphone, Squier makes good guitars, even great guitars. My first guitar was a Squier Strat and I love it, now I play on a $650 Epiphone Les Paul Jr. but I still love and cherish my Squier.
really nice bass. but why the hell doesn't he play like this in other songs? he really got boring bass parts. never saw some challenging bass parts in green days songs and that's kinda sad for such a good band.
@galatasaray5549 he don't play like this in song because the Green Day music can't be played like this, pick is the best way to go fast and has a pretty sound, slap it's for bass solos or songs that the guitar don't play a sequence of chords
hey i'm selling my Kerplunk LP signed by all of Green Day on ebay. Youtube doesn't allow you to post links so if you just go to ebay and search "Green Day - Kerplunk LP SIGNED BY ALL OF GREEN DAY" it should pop-up. if your not interested thats cool, just doing some sameless selfpromotion.
@leonoff89 because tre broke the G-3 (not the grabber but pickups aside its 100% the same) during the nimrod era. and so then they went out to get a replacement for it and he got a 60's p-bass, and then they became his favorite bass. before the signature model was designed he would mostly play old p-basses (usually 60's) that he changed the pickups in (to seymour duncan antiquity p bass pickups), and would put a badass II bridge on
@GamerMan57 yea the g3 had 3 pups unlike the grabber which had one sliding pick up but u right other than that 100 percent the same i thought he had a grabber not a g3 interesting to know the story how did tre manage to break his bass
@GamerMan57 yea youre right he did have g3 not a grabber i watched some old greenday clips and payed attention to the pups which points to a g3 lol wierd that i didnt notice that before
YOU MOCK THE ALL MIGHTY TRE COOL??? and they hired Jason white because they wanted a rhythm guitar an lead for a better sound, they normally had it for record but they wanted one live, not because billys bad at guitar
@sinisan14 maybe in the Smoothed out Slappy hour - Insomniac era yeah it was probably the music but American Idiot - Awesome as Fuck, its all about the cash. I don't blame him. Hell I'd play bass for lady gaga if i was getting his wage
@kenny46802 -_- green day may make some good songs now and then, but that doesn't change the fact that their lead guitarist hired a guitarist to play their songs because he's not good enough. They sorta suck. Sure, they sound good, but everyone besides Mike Dirnt aren't honestly good enough to call themselves drummers or guitarists.
@powertotehchord Really? Give me an example of a song that you consider "difficult", and I will listen with an open mind. Green Day hired a guitarist because they couldn't play their own songs. -_-
@mcblahflooper94 Burnout and Jesus of Suburbia both have drum solos, older songs like the judges daughter, dry ice, and one for the razorbacks and have guitar solos. In the song 16 mike dirnt has some slap bass in the breakdown. Even in their live shows Billie Joe does a lot of lead guitar as well on the fly. and another thing, ALL the guitar parts rhythm and lead on all of green day's records are recorded by billie joe himself.
@mcblahflooper94 well billies not the greatest player in technical player which really doesn't matter, but if you've ever seen Green Day live you'll see that mike is pretty happy where he is haha
@powertotehchord You know what, I think I should reword that. I wish Billy was equally as good as both as them, and if they were I would respect Green Day a lot more. I like their sound and their idea, but Billy isn't the greatest guitarist. Like I said, if he was, I would have a lot more respect for the band.
@mcblahflooper94 they arent really holding him back Green Day plays very classic punk rock, solos arent there thing, the technical aspect isn't their main goal its just the all in all music and the lyrics are what really get you, but if you need to hear Billie crank a few solos then go to 1039/smoothed out slappy hours
i got this bass in antique white it sounds incredible and it was like 200 buck. i think it sounds way better than my friend fender p-bass but thats just me, and
"it looks cool shit" Mike Dirnt.
, honestly if i didnt start listening to green day i never would of played bass but now i love it
Mike Dirnt might not be the best like slap bass amazing whatever but hes by far my favorite bassist, and i would say hes the best
@JarodGallantOfficial Objectively speaking, Mike Dirnt is hardly the best bassist for 2 reasons.
one, there is no best bassist, I'm willing to bet you that just as many people would be willing to call cliff Burton or Les claypool the best bassists in the world.
two, and I know that you probably won't agree with me, Mike Dirnt is not a versatile player.
@rahagbab i agree with u that there is no best bassist that's why i said "hes by far my favorite bassist, and i would say hes the best" not he is the best
but i strongly disagree with him not being a very versatile player
listen to some old stuff kerplunk, 39 smooth and insomniac have great bass lines and i know there is better but that doesn't mean his aren't good
@Runbassskaterock True, but punk rock, metal, heavy metal and similar are mostly played by a pick because it's much more faster and it gives the sound more treble. If you play with your fingers it usually sounds really quiet and not important in a song, so if you use a pick, it gives you the best tone and POWER a bassist deserves!
i agree with him about the telebasses, and that is why i bought a tele bass (yes, one of those slab bodied, single coiled, vintage styled fender japan ones), and yes, they're cool as shit.
@FMJman1 you are an idiot. me being a bass player myself, i know that bass was not made for chords you fucking pinprick. look at the double bass players, they playing chords. reality check pepe le bitch, this aint your world.go home and play youre heavy metal while this guy, the most sane person in green day, saves music and puts the bass back in the reccord.
@TheRhymeBoy they use so much distortion that you cant hear the tonewood, and it takes more skill to sound good clean, an slower than it does playing faster, and distorted.
@TheRhymeBoy is that all that matters "It still sounds good." breaking it down, note by note, and slow it down. metal is verry simple, all it is is speed. it takes more skill to play slowly and cleanly and still sound good, than it does to just play fast with a crapload of distortion. i had a friend once who sold his perfectly good fender p bass worthy of Mike Dirnt himself for a metal looking Schecter. he then wanted to play clean and,oh no, it soulded like shit.
@SecretSpyAgent12 hes saying "cuttaways", which are contours in the body that make it more comfortable to play, because telebasses like the one i bought are "slabs" and have no contours, so, from the way he plays, the side of the bass would digging into his arm.
@MikeDirntBass2468 Don't get me wrong, I love PBasses. Yes, I had a Squier Affinity, now I have Fender PBass MIM. What I mean is Squiers are shit because this movie is about his Squier signature but his Fender signature is pretty good bass. If i had a little more money I would buy it, but I decided for a simple Standard PBass.
@domt44 it has been stated by Mike that the neck on the G3 broke several times when Tre Cool would dive into his drumset and knock bass amps over, and that the sound didn't work for Nimrod anyway. another source said Tre Cool snapped the neck in half after attempting to spin the G3 bass around his neck.
Hmm he's better than I though but since he doesn't do any of the cool chord or anything in his songs it's all the same he sucks at his bass lines on songs and even at that he's no bass king like some jackass wrote here he sucks
@CABINFEVERibk i don't care if I'm using a pick or fingers. they both give different sounds. picking gives it a brighter sound and sometimes u just need to play with a pick
@CABINFEVERibk Why should I give a fuck? The only people who bitch about that are amateurs ... I never heard a professional saying "Sorry friend.. you're not good at bass .. you use a pick."
@enahcs Same. I can play both, i just like how the pick sounds. it sounds better with punk rock and fast rythems. If you can do both, then i dont matter. Theyre both equilly difficult to learn in my opinion.
Mike is 100% correct here, his Squier Sig P bass IS louder and plays alot better than the Fender itself. I have both the Squier and the Fender and just use the Fender Sig as a backup incase of string breaks!!
bebebebon2 you are an idiot fucking girl to even try to compare mike with flea. they have different play styles you retard, thats why mike isn't as good at slap as flea! fuck flea only does slap, but mike, like me, uses a pick. fuck off you trolling little idiot. watch when next time she tries to compare paul mccartney and geddy lee or john entwistle and chris squire
He's pretty underrated, probably just because 'real musicians' associate Green Day now with teen punk-pop crap. But, for his genre of music, Mike Dirnt plays some pretty accomplished stuff with just the right amount of complexity. He's not just a root note-strumming hack.
Before: Blue and Gibson Grabber. After: Les paul and fender precision bass

@FMJman1 you are an idiot. me being a bass player myself, i know that bass was not made for chords you fucking pinprick. look at the double bass players, they playing chords. reality check pepe le bitch, this aint your world.go home and play youre heavy metal while this guy, the most sane person in green day, saves music and puts the bass back in the reccord.
bassharmonica1 7 months ago
@bassharmonica1 hey whats wrong with heavymetal? Dick!
TheRhymeBoy 6 months ago
@TheRhymeBoy they use so much distortion that you cant hear the tonewood, and it takes more skill to sound good clean, an slower than it does playing faster, and distorted.
bassharmonica1 6 months ago
@bassharmonica1 but still it sounds good ;D
TheRhymeBoy 6 months ago
@TheRhymeBoy is that all that matters "It still sounds good." breaking it down, note by note, and slow it down. metal is verry simple, all it is is speed. it takes more skill to play slowly and cleanly and still sound good, than it does to just play fast with a crapload of distortion. i had a friend once who sold his perfectly good fender p bass worthy of Mike Dirnt himself for a metal looking Schecter. he then wanted to play clean and,oh no, it soulded like shit.
bassharmonica1 6 months ago
@bassharmonica1 yeah as long as it sounds good its fine by me , stop being a jerk and respect my opinion, METAL RULES!

@SecretSpyAgent12 hes saying "cuttaways", which are contours in the body that make it more comfortable to play, because telebasses like the one i bought are "slabs" and have no contours, so, from the way he plays, the side of the bass would digging into his arm.
bassharmonica1 7 months ago
I want his Fender version so bad but it's too 'spensive :(
Orangemongoose1 7 months ago
What is a cuttleander or what even he said? It's the part where he says about not drilling your arm back and forth?
SecretSpyAgent12 7 months ago
@SecretSpyAgent12 it is a cutaway , , it means the body is slanted , not a thick slab of wood,

I have a quire J bass:') it's black & white.

Wat happened to his gibson g3 I've always wanted to know that
domt44 7 months ago
@domt44 it has been stated by Mike that the neck on the G3 broke several times when Tre Cool would dive into his drumset and knock bass amps over, and that the sound didn't work for Nimrod anyway. another source said Tre Cool snapped the neck in half after attempting to spin the G3 bass around his neck.
bmiranda2645 7 months ago
i wish he still had his gibson G3
Xxrickibee94xX 7 months ago
@Xxrickibee94xX yeah me too. He should at least switch between a G3 and a P-bass depending on the song.
bmiranda2645 7 months ago
tele bass and p-bass had a love child lol

RoryAstenBell 7 months ago
@RoryAstenBell Dude,, he has a Fender Signature as well,, he just wanted a cheap version.
bassplayer209 7 months ago
does he use a squier on stage or is his a fender and ppl are just able to buy the squier version?
78coupdegrace 7 months ago
@78coupdegrace He uses a fender on stage, his signature fender is $800
Orangemongoose1 7 months ago
Hmm he's better than I though but since he doesn't do any of the cool chord or anything in his songs it's all the same he sucks at his bass lines on songs and even at that he's no bass king like some jackass wrote here he sucks
FMJman1 7 months ago

thumbs up if you know mike dirnt plays with a pick and dont give a fuck
CABINFEVERibk 8 months ago 194
@CABINFEVERibk no one should give a fuck if a bass player uses picks. if the sound and feel is appropriate, it's ok by me. fuck off purists....
KEPHALLE 6 months ago
@CABINFEVERibk i don't care if I'm using a pick or fingers. they both give different sounds. picking gives it a brighter sound and sometimes u just need to play with a pick
M93RAFfIcca 6 months ago
@CABINFEVERibk Why should I give a fuck? The only people who bitch about that are amateurs ... I never heard a professional saying "Sorry friend.. you're not good at bass .. you use a pick."
DamnedTheMan3 6 months ago
@CABINFEVERibk cause i do too
MRCOOL2345e 6 months ago
@CABINFEVERibk i hate the finger vs pick queers.
enahcs 6 months ago
@enahcs Same. I can play both, i just like how the pick sounds. it sounds better with punk rock and fast rythems. If you can do both, then i dont matter. Theyre both equilly difficult to learn in my opinion.
A7XGroupie767 6 months ago
@CABINFEVERibk whats wrong with playign with a pick? are you saying playing with a pick is wrong?
nileisthebestband 5 months ago
Mike is 100% correct here, his Squier Sig P bass IS louder and plays alot better than the Fender itself. I have both the Squier and the Fender and just use the Fender Sig as a backup incase of string breaks!!

I love Mike, till this day he's the reason i play bass!

bebebebon2 you are an idiot fucking girl to even try to compare mike with flea. they have different play styles you retard, thats why mike isn't as good at slap as flea! fuck flea only does slap, but mike, like me, uses a pick. fuck off you trolling little idiot. watch when next time she tries to compare paul mccartney and geddy lee or john entwistle and chris squire
bassharmonica1 8 months ago
is that p bass hes using right there the 200 dollar one or the 800 dollar one
alexizkoolest 8 months ago
@alexizkoolest the 200 one, it's a squier. :) the 800 is the fender
whenpigsfly906 8 months ago
wow. mike dirnt says "you know" to :D you know
romelson1113 8 months ago
He's pretty underrated, probably just because 'real musicians' associate Green Day now with teen punk-pop crap. But, for his genre of music, Mike Dirnt plays some pretty accomplished stuff with just the right amount of complexity. He's not just a root note-strumming hack.
