Winn-Dixie took over the Thriftway chain in Cincinnati that I used to work for. As soon as they came in, the quality was horrible (the cheese would come in on the trucks molded) andthe stores got filthy because they would cut back the night clean shifts. I used to love to come to work for this place but ever since they went bankrupt the store just slowly declined. Mix matched frozen food pallets. The warehouse sending you whatever they feel like. Very bad communication between upper and lower management and associates. Guys coming in that used to do your job 10-15 years ago who if your lucky to see maybe 5 times a year try to tell you how to do your job when they are way out of touch with how it is today.

The Winn Dixie in corbin,Ky went bank rupt in 2001. I miss it. After that along came FOOD CITY to corbin,Ky and then in 2002 after it barley opened, Kroger Bought Food City in corbin and now Save A Lot bought the old Kroger store.

Everytime I've shopped at WD, there was always the feeling as if the store was going to close in 5 minutes, so why bother trying to impress customers. Employees would be operating loud cleaning machines in the same aisles with customers, unattractive store layout, poor food selection. There are about 80 Publixes now in Broward County alone, and not even half as many WDs. And several of the WDs are expected to close.

At least with the even most expensive of em all.. Publix, they at least have an awesome deli-bakery.. something WinnDixie and especially Wallyworld know nothing of. Sad thing is NOTHING now at WalMarts bakery is fresh, its all pre-frozen and sits out. If you looked at the cases, their "bakery" foods come from Canada, and always have high amounts of sugar and corn syrup in them.

As a former store manager, Winn Dixie has to have a 75% MINIMUM markup on ALL ITEMS. THink about that for a second! We had our brand glass cleaner (16oz) for 1.99, when you can get the same thing at WalMart for 99 cents.

Or we would charge $1.99 for a Michelinas tv dinner you could get at WalMart for only 79 cents. I never shopped there when I managed it. And the buy one get one free "deals", when combined the 2 items, are the regular price at WalMart, so hows it a "deal?"

Umm... newsflash. Prices are raising in every grocery chain. Winn-Dixie, Publix, Sweet Bay, Kroger, etc. You make it out that Winn-Dixie is the only one doing it. You realise that these stores are making pennies in profit per item. It's not like they're gaining 150% profit on their items. Winn-Dixie on average is making about 35% gross profit. I know, cause I work there. And when their cost rises they have to adjust prices to the customer. It's just how it works.

I work at Winn Dixie as a "courtesy clerk," a fancy name for bagger, over in Florida. The job itself is crap, The customers are assholes, the store director, the head manager is a big asshole who doesn't really care about the happiness of his workers. When I was in high school I worked for Winn Dixie ... and I loved the company ... as I grew older I was a Winn Dixie shopper until I noticed the stores were going downhill big time. Would go into Publix and say Damn this is nicer and all the registers are open ... Winn Dixie your lucky if 2 registers are open other than the express. Customer service is all but gone at Winn Dixie and their cashiers have no clue ... Bring Back "cashier school"!

Your right about that, They just raised their prices on most of their items and to get it to go back to the price that they had it you need their card. Before the card Thrifty maid noodle were 6 for a dollar. When the card came they were 5 for a dollar but with the card you can get 6 for a dollar.

The thing is with a company the size of winn-dixie, it is hard to keep track of every single store every single day.
