  • He is SO controlled and still dynamic. I love him.

  • quisiera bailar como el pero apenar tengo un año en ballet...tengo fe en lograrlo

  • Fucking unreal! i love watching a dancer who, even after watching this video a few years ago still surprises me!

  • every dancer is different, daniil and carlos are both excellent

  • Comment removed

  • terrible saute de basque ...

  • Not my favorite ballet dancer, but moves very well for such a big guy - also a great grand pirrouette, fun to watch...

  • Those little details with his hands and posing really make this rendition unique, I must say I didnt think much of him but now he's really grown on me.

  • He is GOD!!

  • This was divine -poetry in motion.

  • ibcreoble carloss!!!!!!!! increible

  • la bailarina arruino la perfecta actuacion de carlos acosta !!! mejor no hubiera salido HAHAH

  • superb technique!!!

    BRAVO!!!!

  • he is amazing! not a flaw! ok sure he has flaws.... but so what! he is amazing!!! his shoulders in the grand pirouettes do annoy me a bit tho... why carlos, why?!

  • Acosta does rule.... CUBANS rule!!!!

  • for all of the people comenting on how bas Carlos Acosta is, tell me someone who is really better than Carlos and then we'll compare. he is one of the best dancers in the world with Daniil simkin and some other ones and I dont personaly find much difference. they have different styles but I would not go to say that he sucks compare to some other dancers. you might just prefere the style of the other dancer but that dodes not make Carlos a horrible dancer. it makes his originality which many love

  • danni simkin isnt anywhere near the dancer carlos is

  • i agree. i mean i reckon daniil's probly got better technique by a tiny bit but hes way less dynamic than carlos. acosta's so much easier to watch

  • i have to disagree, simkin is a great dancer, there is no denying that but he doesnt even make the classical line, see carlos doing diana and acteon, youll understand what i mean

he is really turned in and dancers with an incredibly arched back.when ever he pirouettes he he sticks his ribcage out.its very unattractive

he also has no support in his port de bars

  • its sad how racist some are... cant they just see him for his art.

  • That argument was simply pointless. Whether you guys like him or not he is still one of the most in demand and one of the best dancers in the world right now. And no amount of insulting or complaining is going to change that. So suck it up and don't watch him if you don't like him. Simple as that. I for one, think he is quite amazing ! :)

  • Simply amazing! This dancer has it ALL! I do not understand these blatant racist critiques. I find Mr. Acosta's technique flawless, his artistry surpasses by far, any mere jumping and leaping about the stage from so many "dancers"I see performing today.

  • It boils down to personal tastes, folks. All of the mentioned dancers are exceptionally gifted. I find no need to insult one dancer to praise another. Personally, I think Acosta is brilliant. He is energy, technique and bravura personified. But I also have a very high regard for Corella, Bolle and Martinez. None of these men are where they are for nothing. Their training and aesthetics are just different. No harm, no foul. I dont believe there is a need for personal attacks.

  • Sensacional!

  • Carlos Acosta is CUBAN! Read his book: No Way Home - just published in the States (in the UK last year.)

  • My friends recently saw him dance in Australia then took him out afterwards to show him the sites of the city. Very down to earth person. Go the Cubans!

  • Even though he is easily my favourite dancer, I felt let down when I saw him in 'Mayerling'recently. You really need to be a good actor and dancer in that part and I didn't think he acted well enough. His dancing was, as always, out of this world.

By the way, he's Cuban, not French although he may well have guested with the P.O.B. - even though he is marked as a 'guest' dancer with the R.B., he is still based there (like Nureyev was - at his absolutely fab. best).

  • basically carlos can do more than look nice doing arabesques so he's not a classical dancer... right makes sense...

  • oh my god! he is SO amazing!

    he is just INCREDIBLE!

  • he had to be french, of course, what else is new. they have to learn there are other people better than them in many ways...

  • Don't argue with Andante75, it's pointless. He's French and of course from the Paris Opera. He says negative things about Carlos Acosta because all the Paris Opera dancers were humiliated by the supremacy of Carlos on stage when he came to dance a couple of times as a guest star.

Carlos is THE BEST and that the french dancers will never admit this. PERIOD!

  • Incidentally, I'm not french. If you think that the POB etoile were humiliated by him when he guested there, you've got serious issues. Were you there? Did you witness this supposed humiliation? The POB has NOTHING to be threatened by, let alone him.

  • While we're at it, there is no such thing as the "best". According to you're own exaggerated sense of subjectivity, and ego identification with Acosta, in your mind he's the best. POB are considered to have the finest training, and some of the most impeccable, musically and technically gifted dancers the world over.

  • Also, someone should tell him the proper way to place his arms in second postion. Palms facing outward, and stretched behind the shoudler blades is the most basic mistake possible.

  • thats the choreography

  • I know what the choreography is, and that's not what I am referring to. Thanks.

  • Yes I was there, during rehearsals and performances. Why?

And yes, I witnessed THE humiliation. During rehearsals it was even more cruel. He was "suggested" not to do "too much" in his variation. The BOP has A LOT to be threatened, specially for the lack of musicality of its members, étoiles y compris. And I know perfectly what I'm talking about.

    Acosta rules!

  • No sweetheart, it's not POB, it's BOP and BOP stands for BALLET DE L'OPÉRA DE PARIS.

Now we know who is THE ignorant plebe here.

Bwt, I am myself musician and classic dancer, so your "exquisite and inate (???) sense of musicality" keep it for your grandma!

ACOSTA RULES, whether you like it or not.

And before using words you do not control, please check a dictionary. Plebe and innate, ignorant.

  • look up brooklyn mack doing corsaire

  • He is one of the best dancer in the world! I sow him as Solor in the Opera de Paris Ballet. Bravo!

  • Oh my God, I do not like him as Ali, I don´t like him at all,he doesn´t get into the cHaracter. Shame coz I have to say I usually like him.

  • He is wonderful. That's why many people buy a ticket and go to a theatre to see him dance...

  • Andante...envidia racista y tonto

  • El es uno de los mejores del Ballet Cubano

    Aparte de que esta riquizimo

  • mt last name is acosta

  • not the best ive seen from him

  • He is ALWAYS, ALWAYS FANTAAAAAAASTIC!!!

  • ***** 5******* Quite unsurpassed so very accomplished

  • THE BEST DANCER IN THE WORLD

  • AAAhahaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!! What drug are you taking?? There's no such thing as "the best dancer in the world", and if there was, it wouldn't be this vulgar, tastless, brainless excuse for a classical danseur.

  • You are so RACIST!!

  • What does his race have to do with it? He's not my idea of a classical dancer, at least stylistically and physically--he's more of an athlete than anything else. None better? Highly unlikely. There's a long, long, long list of male dancers who make him look shameful.

  • Ah, you're hispanic!!! That explains the dumb reference to race. Sadly, you don't have a more substantial argument to offer here.

  • who do you prefer?

  • If you're asking me that question, quite a few other danseurs- Angel Corella, Mathieu Ganio, Jose Martinez, Roberto Bolle; those are my real favorites right now.

  • Angel Corella is a little boy who spins instead of turning... he has no control over his body...

Mathieu Ganio is just some big piece of muscle who can't dance with the music, and btw he's alot older than acosta... Jose Martinez dances like a girl... Roberto Bolle is good xD but alot older than acosta ^^ j00 suxzor

  • You've got a great deal to learn not only about technique, but about artistry, and personal information about dancers. From what I can see, based on just what you said about Corella and Ganio, you know nothing. If you new anything at all, you'd know that apart from Jose Martinez, most of the dancers you mentioned are in the same age range as Acosta.

  • Acosta is 35, Bolle 35, Ganio is 24, Corella is 35. You'd also know that Ganio is one of the youngest dancers promoted to Etoile. If you weren't a mindless idiot, you'd also know that POB is highly regarded as having the most musically talented dancers in the world. You'd also know that Ganio is far from a big piece of muscle - if anything his physique is long, toned, and very well defined. Dancers who become world known don't generally have "no conrol over their bodies".

  • What rock did you crawl from under? How and when did you become an imbecilic horse's ass? I suggest you move on to something else you have knowledge of, because it certainly isn't classical dancing.

  • actually Corella and Bolle are both 33. just so you guys know.

  • Well then I suggest you look at their biographies - unless they're lying :)

  • I stand corrected, well partially. They have different birth dates in different resources. Not really that important. More importantly, Roberto Bolle is a premiere danseur; an artist with intellect, style, impeccable technique and an excellent partner. He dances like a gentleman, not a vapid acrobat prone to crude an tacky flash.

  • i agree Corella and Bolle have a higher level of artistry than Acosta's, but i still think his is good. his face usually shows a calm, more gentle type of presence. and in my opinion he dances very much like a gentleman, there is nothing wrong with his partnering, and his ability/technique is greater than both Corella's or Bolle (they are both awesome though). also ballet tricks aren't acrobatics. and have you seen any clips of him doing sparticus? awesome acting! he is undeniably amazing.

  • I never, ever, said Acosta wasn't good, and didn't have a solid technique- I just happen to not be able to form any type of attraction to his dancing. so let's establish that fact. So trickery is different that acrobatics? That's a new defintion to me. I've seen his clips of Spartacus, very impressive, but to me it's not anything close to artistry, it's pure show-off and pretense.

  • His technique might be greater than both, but to me there's more depth than pure technique- it has to coupled with dramatic intent, and I just don't see that happening with him, sorry. Ah yes, before I forget, I'm a racist because I prefer white, european dancers with a certain style.

  • ok, well i guess we all have our favorites. sorry i implied something that wasn't true.

  • We do have our favorites, and don't be sorry. I was just pointing out that the use of "best" can easily become very narrow. That's why I look at it as, well so and so is the best Giselle I've seen, but it doesn't obviate the fact that there are other great Giselles. It's subjective I think, but I will say there have been dancers who one could say have come very close to being the "best", based on technique, versatility, acting, etc. I wasn't trying to single you out, if I did I apologize.

  • You seem racist,Andante, because your comments are too definitive and angry, and one doesn't have to be an expert to realize that Acosta is a great dancer, which is what connoisseurs are saying. In other words, Andantino, you hate his guts for a bigoted reason, which reveals you as a complete jackass. Or a windbag. Or a jealous idiot. Etc.

  • I prefer white, european dancers. If that's your idea of jealousy, jackass, or any other adjective, it's of absolutely no consequence at all. I never said he wasn't good, I said I find him vulgar and tasteless. If you don't like what I have to say, you've got the option to ignore it, but find a way to read with accuracy before posting common, uninteresting, tired comments we've all heard before.

  • "I prefer white, european dancers". You don't mention the quality of their dancing; your preference is their ethnicity and nationality, which, again, reveals that you are a bigot and a vulgar and tasteless one to boot. I read with accuracy, jackass.

  • Obviously, anyone who is familiar with an educated opinion, would know that it's a given assumption that I don't need to mention their level of technique. I may be bigoted to some degree, and I've got no issue with it, but apparently you do. You should consider moving on to something else, because you certainly don't belong on a board such as this.

  • It's true to an extent - I don't belong on a board that harbors a confessed bigot like you, jackass, but I am here for as long as I want. Yes, you don't have to mention their level of technique if they happen to be white or European because it is clear that's what you care about.
