that attitude makes sense when you think about it; if you "play" too much, you are not going to have the maturity for the serious business of being a "defender of the innocent." Anything at all that is a play thing, has to be discarded. So, taking up a sword, for all we gamers, would mean giving up video games, even sports. A sword is too dangerous a weapon to have a "play" mentality with it, especially a Katana.

in all seriousness though, for people serious about taking up the study of the Katana, cultivate maturity. A sword is not a toy. Taking up Kenjutsu would mean even giving up ALL luxuries. The Spartans believed any luxury, no matter how seemingly small, was ultimately a child's toy, a true adult gave them up completely. Whether its a sports car, or a video game, the way the Spartans and Samurai saw it, both would be toys in their eyes.
