while this guy was not indicating it is also worthy of note that he can signal when he starts to move should he wish to. I dare say in a days worth of driving and cycling you will find more cyclists jumping red lights than HGV drivers turning without signal. The HGV driver must pass three driving test before being allocated a vocational license. One car and two hgv tests and lessons are required to drive such a vehicle. In contrast a cyclist requires no training, no insurance and no VED
To be honest you can blame the local governments for banning HGV's entering the city at night, if they had done what alot of euro contries do and only allow HGV's in at night we would probably cut the number of deaths down to a mere handfull if any per year, i am a HGV driver and i own my own trucks and im all for banning HGV's into london during the day as it would make our lives and others far easier.
@TridentTrucking agreed. I bet a lot of people are currently unaware of the current nigh-time ban on HGVs. An increase noise pollution for a decrease in road deaths should be a justifiable trade-off
@rogerhotuk not only that most of our trucks are around 55ft long and theres around 3000 in london during the day and yes alot of them deliveries can be done at night and i think they should be, you would cut traffic pollution and accidents by alot but our backwards government and MP's cant see this the other thing is we can also dodge the euro fines for air quality as we wouldnt be sitting idling all the time.
Its not surprising only one cyclist stopped behind the lorry, I see lots of this in my commute. The government needs to educate all road users regarding sneaking up the inside of lorries. Indicating or not its best to stop behind the lorry, trust no one!
Driver only turns the indicator on when the lights change, when he/she should have made the intention to turn clear while waiting at the lights. I bet that all the cyclists that went up that cycle line thought that the lorry would go straight on.
@MadMarie2005 even though his indicator wasnt on his positioning can tell you something he is straddling it gives you a massive clue he may attempt a turn in fairness yes he should have indicated.
Had to watch that a few times just to check if he were indicating.Just made a comment before this one about drivers indicating in the turn.An invitation for disaster.
He is too close to the ASL to see cyclists in front of him, he looks like he has only just changed lanes as the back of the trailer is across both lanes, then he does't indicate until he is moving.
With the volume of cyclist who use Blackfriars in the morning that was very lucky not be be an accident.
Is crazy how much a hurry people can be, I would imagine if those Boris bikes were a few seconds early they would have tried to go up the inside of the lorry
@Mickygemma But that kind of driving is unforgivable from a supposedly professional driver of a heavy goods vehicle. It's exactly how cyclists get killed.
@Camsplint yeah hence my comment ' Not everyone is perfect' He may of made a mistake that day. Surely you make mistakes? we all do. This Country that we live in are quick to judge and comment about other things. Don't get me wrong i am not sticking up for the driver, but from reading some of the comments on here i don't think half of them have a clue
@Mickygemma 16 cyclists have died so far this year in London. Many of these incidents involved HGVs and so people are angry seeing examples of poor driving like this.
@Camsplint and what about the ahole car drivers that come from lane 3 straight over infront of us to get up the slip road causing us to loose control to avoid them? without us you get nothing i think all truck drivers should unite and stand down for a week just watch the FTSE drop, everyone has off days and this guy is straddling fairness he didnt indicate but his positioning in the road should tell you something anyway

Agreed, no one can underestimate how dangerous HGVs are (at least in terms of cycling on the inside).
