  • The lyrics are sad, simple and brilliant

  • mmmm.............sweet !!

  • Just to get things straight. FREE is one of may favorite bands, and this song hits it all.

    But don't call this Blues!!!

Blues is what people like Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Walter, Sleepy John Estes, Robert Johnson, T-Bone Walker and the like have given us.

Then there are the bluesROCK "artists" like Walter Trout, eeeek!!

Got to love Andy Fraser more than Paul Rodgers for his composing. And the phrasing and vibrato by Paul Kossoff... beautiful.

  • What about Andy Fraser's bass playing, one of the best...

  • One of my ALLTIME favorites!!!

    Fantastic song!

  • sounds like Chris Wood on flute. They were too good!

  • I love this song too

  • Can anybody guess which four people I dislike?

  • What about the fine bass playing by Andy Fraser, one of the best!

  • So profound ... awesome !!!

  • Wow, i do love that band, but totally forgot this song, what a shame ! Many thanks for adding it ... Such great song !

  • Try and get a copy of their debut album, Tons of sobs, it is awesome. Cant believe they only lasted for a few years, they had everything.

  • @caslox:

I've got all of their albums, plus a few solo albums by PR.

  • @caslox Dude Paul kossof died

    band broke up

  • Free forever

  • i love this song stil got original vinyl collection of free no ones getting that . true genius

  • Thank you for posting this.

  • Thanks for posting that. I've missed it.

  • who is on backing vocals ? man it sounds good

  • @gazzaboy2531977:

The album does not credit the backing vocals, but it is possibly their drummer Simon Kirke.

  • paul rodgers is simply our best blues rock vocalist,,period,,,,,,,,,,,,,

  • @robharding1957:

There are lots of great rock vocalists out there to match him, but Paul is the greatist at blues.

  • did you ever notice how some of bad company's songs were arranged and written into similarly frameworked free tunes, e.g. this and the song bad company, ride on a pony and feel like making love, to name a few. that's not necessarily a bad thing, i'm just sayin

  • @ultrakool wait, i didn't phrase that right. some bad co tunes are reminiscent of free tunes. there, that's better

  • WTF aren't these songs finding their way back on the airwaves???

Its fuckin' maddening to be subjected to the garbage being aired, when treasures like these are dying a slow death, and weren't for YT community, they would go the way of the fucking DoDo Bird.

Once again, talent and quality work be damned. Long live marketing of horseshit: Jonas Bros, Britany (sp?), and the full lot of talentless . But I am degrading Free, by placing them in the same paragraph w/ the other clowns & circus acts.

  • @EarCandyJar ..Damn right! Here endeth the lesson!

  • @EarCandyJar it's all about the benjamins, haven't you heard, homeslice? these record companies today couldn't care less about quality music

  • Guy called ravenscroft played sax on Baker Street.............

  • This is one of the best song from the best rock band in the world !!! .

  • This is my fave Free song it makes me well sad ... glad you posted it up.

  • Please check out my other videos for more Free.

  • another one that makes me drift off into a dreamworld, pure magic mr paul :-))

  • Who can answer this?

Who plays the flute on this song?

    Let's see who knows what........

  • Bob Holness who presented Blockbusters. He also played sax on Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty ;)

  • Not Bob :)

    Try again !

  • It was Chris Wood who played the flute on this track. if you are a big free fan.. get the book Heavy load and the Free forever dvd. whorth every penny

  • @blindboybenton:

Correct - from the band Traffic.

  • thanks id never heard this song before this vid!

  • Paul rogers is the man,the best singer in the world.

  • AWESOME !!!!

  • this is blues rock sung only like a man born to sing like paul rodgers, his voice was a gift to him and hes used it so well, jammy bastard,,he is the man,, make no mistake,,,

  • What a magical, mystical time in music from 69 to about 74--if you look at the music produced compaired to the drivel shoved into our ears these days!

  • tons of sobs

  • This song is totally awsome I have been listening to Free since the 70s yet this is totally timeless as most fantastic music is expressing emotions as old as time and as current as tommorow!!

  • oh, and btw: song really deserves to be listened to HQ rather than web

  • one of my favourite free songs. agree with d description ''haunting''. entire album is great. agree with d jethro tull assocation.

this song has some nice alternative versions to be chased as well. workin on it

  • this song is was used on a awol one song called sunday mourning...this song is amazing very haunting

  • This song is so fuckin awesome

  • Free are just too good! how Paul is so lucky to have such a voice.

  • FREE is one of THE MOST underated bands TOTALLY...Paul Rodgers is heavenly with his voice

  • @paulhzuker There are many underrated bands and I wouldn't exactly call Free underrated, rather forgotten. People only seem to remember "All right now" though it's not even a typical Free song, but those who know music give the band due credit.

  • anyone know who the female backing vocal is on this?

  • The backing vocals are not credited on the album.

  • Ahh thanks for posting this ,,, It`s such a haunting sad song and I luv it lots :)))

  • This song does have a touch of Jethro Tull. Superb!

  • keep posting stuff like this and we will be friends for ever

  • YouTube forever!

  • Amen Brother!!!! Love all your Free stuff...Im having a 'Free' kinda afternoon. Thanks

  • Billy, I allow you ;) ;) Spot on, it is a classic fusion of those 2 bands but still with the characteristic voice of Paul Rodgers driving it.

  • True mate...thanks for the support!

  • A true gem...allow me to say that the tune is a zeppelin & tull meddle!

  • One of the most amazing songs ever!

  • 1ST TIME I HEARD THIS 1 ITS BEUTIFUL

  • One of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard and felt.

  • What a great song. Truly touching. 'Free'

    were such an underated band.

  • la verdad loko, siempre entro a you tube y veo los videos q puedo q digan paul kossoff o free,y mucho los subiste vos...

por eso y porq gracias a vos pude conocerlos,gracias...

    Por favor, un voto.

  • Beautiful song. Thanks for posting this mate.

  • Thanks for posting this! I have been looking for this song for at last 10 years and thought it was by The The. Googled some of the lyrics without a band name and POOF! I am happy as can be! Sweet memories!

  • I've also posted some other Free songs here on YouTube. Please leave a rating.

  • lied ist voll schön x)

    +Fav'

  • Sin palalabras. Excelente. Felicidades

  • Me alegro de que haya disfrutado de lo que

  • this always makes me cry. the lyrics just fit into my life.

  • hey, I hope it's not too permanent. beautiful song. been there.

  • rodgers has always progressed ? other bands have relied on their past to keep the cash rollin' in ? rodgers is and always be in my opinion, the quintessential rock frontman. having said that.....bonnet my favourite,no need to explain it.

  • I saw Andy Fraser here in Temecula, where he lives, at an Albertson's a couple months ago. He looked great. He had his daughter from Australia with him. She was about 20 and gorgeous. I wanted to talk to him about him about Free, but all he wanted to talk about was his new music. He's really gay, which is okay, but so is his music, which is not. Don't think he even plays bass anymore--just sings crappy world music. Such a shame.

  • Long live the old days music!

  • Way back in time .....(very long time back)

this song captured exactly how I felt, so I picked up my guitar to play it myself - and cry my own tears - Sorry if this sounds pathetic.

(what's even more 'pathetic' is that I come back to this song in the 'here and now' and I find myself feeling the same way all over again)

  • THE greatest and most underrated rock band ever, I'll take em over Zep, Stones... anyone - none better

    RIP PK

  • yep, your right, they are the greatest rock band, to come out of this country, but just a cautionary note, you heard of badfinger,,,,,,,if you aint, you should have, yes, the stones are good, but badfinger, should have been, untouchable, we love you,,badfinger,r i p,fellas

  • heard the name before, but never really dug too deep - I'll check em out. But no one beats Free in my book..... 1 pint of Guiness + 1 shot of Southern Comfort + "Songs Of Yesterday/Mr Big/My Brother Jake"... then repeat several times...... thanks Robharding - cheers

  • my brother bashir he heared this song until the day i found my self falling in love with this song too...thats all visit my music hhhhhhhhhhhh

  • Great! One of my favourite FREE songs. Thanx!

  • Wow! Long live FREE!!!! And long live PAUL KOSSOFF!!!!

  • Love this song. Love Free.

Did you plan to put this video up exactly 40 years to the very date after the band all met up to play for the first time, or was it a great coinscidence :)?

  • Coincidence - I didn't realise.

  • A good coincidence, then :-)

  • Beautiful

  • very good

  • all right now- morning's perfect! it shows how the simplest [almost...] thing can be the most beautiful. and Rodgers's vocal.. oh god- breathtaking. as every Free's song. but this one is special.

  • One of my favourites Free songs - vastly underrated.

  • Best Free song..ever..could be related to another great band "Its a beautifl Day"!

  • Did Kos have a hand in this? Or was it Fraser/Rogers ?

  • It's a Fraser/Rodgers song, flute by Chris Wood (from Traffic).

  • Thanks. It really is quite perfect. Fraser's looking a bit worse for wear these days. Rogers looks great though, fit as a fiddle.

  • Andy Fraser is HIV positive, which could contribute to why he does not look his best.

  • Oh no, shit that's tragic. Saw him only ten years ago or so he aged so well he still looked barely out of his twenties. Damn. Thanks anyways, prof.

  • The most beautiful Free.Ever...

  • Indeed the most beautiful...

  • Excellent choice of song! Always great to hear more Free!
