Just to get things straight. FREE is one of may favorite bands, and this song hits it all.
But don't call this Blues!!!
Blues is what people like Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Walter, Sleepy John Estes, Robert Johnson, T-Bone Walker and the like have given us.
Then there are the bluesROCK "artists" like Walter Trout, eeeek!!
Got to love Andy Fraser more than Paul Rodgers for his composing. And the phrasing and vibrato by Paul Kossoff... beautiful.
did you ever notice how some of bad company's songs were arranged and written into similarly frameworked free tunes, e.g. this and the song bad company, ride on a pony and feel like making love, to name a few. that's not necessarily a bad thing, i'm just sayin
WTF aren't these songs finding their way back on the airwaves???
Its fuckin' maddening to be subjected to the garbage being aired, when treasures like these are dying a slow death, and weren't for YT community, they would go the way of the fucking DoDo Bird.
Once again, talent and quality work be damned. Long live marketing of horseshit: Jonas Bros, Britany (sp?), and the full lot of talentless . But I am degrading Free, by placing them in the same paragraph w/ the other clowns & circus acts.
It was Chris Wood who played the flute on this track. if you are a big free fan.. get the book Heavy load and the Free forever dvd. whorth every penny
this is blues rock sung only like a man born to sing like paul rodgers, his voice was a gift to him and hes used it so well, jammy bastard,,he is the man,, make no mistake,,,
What a magical, mystical time in music from 69 to about 74--if you look at the music produced compaired to the drivel shoved into our ears these days!
This song is totally awsome I have been listening to Free since the 70s yet this is totally timeless as most fantastic music is expressing emotions as old as time and as current as tommorow!!
@paulhzuker There are many underrated bands and I wouldn't exactly call Free underrated, rather forgotten. People only seem to remember "All right now" though it's not even a typical Free song, but those who know music give the band due credit.
Thanks for posting this! I have been looking for this song for at last 10 years and thought it was by The The. Googled some of the lyrics without a band name and POOF! I am happy as can be! Sweet memories!
rodgers has always progressed ? other bands have relied on their past to keep the cash rollin' in ? rodgers is and always be in my opinion, the quintessential rock frontman. having said that.....bonnet my favourite,no need to explain it.
I saw Andy Fraser here in Temecula, where he lives, at an Albertson's a couple months ago. He looked great. He had his daughter from Australia with him. She was about 20 and gorgeous. I wanted to talk to him about him about Free, but all he wanted to talk about was his new music. He's really gay, which is okay, but so is his music, which is not. Don't think he even plays bass anymore--just sings crappy world music. Such a shame.
yep, your right, they are the greatest rock band, to come out of this country, but just a cautionary note, you heard of badfinger,,,,,,,if you aint, you should have, yes, the stones are good, but badfinger, should have been, untouchable, we love you,,badfinger,r i p,fellas
heard the name before, but never really dug too deep - I'll check em out. But no one beats Free in my book..... 1 pint of Guiness + 1 shot of Southern Comfort + "Songs Of Yesterday/Mr Big/My Brother Jake"... then repeat several times...... thanks Robharding - cheers
Did you plan to put this video up exactly 40 years to the very date after the band all met up to play for the first time, or was it a great coinscidence :)?
all right now- morning's perfect! it shows how the simplest [almost...] thing can be the most beautiful. and Rodgers's vocal.. oh god- breathtaking. as every Free's song. but this one is special.
The lyrics are sad, simple and brilliant

The album does not credit the backing vocals, but it is possibly their drummer Simon Kirke.

Way back in time .....(very long time back)
this song captured exactly how I felt, so I picked up my guitar to play it myself - and cry my own tears - Sorry if this sounds pathetic.
(what's even more 'pathetic' is that I come back to this song in the 'here and now' and I find myself feeling the same way all over again)

NixonMcvicar 3 years ago
It's a Fraser/Rodgers song, flute by Chris Wood (from Traffic).
professoricon 3 years ago
Thanks. It really is quite perfect. Fraser's looking a bit worse for wear these days. Rogers looks great though, fit as a fiddle.
NixonMcvicar 3 years ago
Andy Fraser is HIV positive, which could contribute to why he does not look his best.
