As an african american, plus size belly dancer, this show helped me start out and now I'm going more advanced. My favorite dancer is Jillian, she is always enthusiastic on this show and puts a lot of attitude and sensuality into the dance.
The quality is awesome,the dancing & costumes are ok but the video quality & direction more than make up for it!Great production,Love the crispness of the it.Maybe in the future it would be great to have some real professional well known belly dancers from the mid east & the west guest dance.These girls are wonderful don't get me wrong,but some real technique during performance would be great to demonstrate the difficulty,grace that flows between movements & combinations & beauty of the dance.
only that i do not care so much about technique, but about FEELING and the real arab or turkish touch.
i was postin on another shimmy excerpt video that i wished they d have found a group of mideastern girls living in North America. grab anybody from a wedding or women s social party, and you re sure to easily find a bunch of women who can do waaaaayy better. more sensual, less artifical "oh i gotta rmmbr the steps i ve learned"..
wished they did a show with the REAL ppl one day..
What a relief I thought someone was going to reply negatively to my comment. I love the show just like you , I agree with you too.There are so many belly dancers out there with different body types from the mid east and the west that can hip rock you socks off & really inspire!Some real people would be great!
and to me what would be important would be Mideastern authenticity! it s not whether you can do this hip move -s ure they can, but to Arab women they MEAN something, its body language. and with this video, while they move well, something is "lost in translation". Najwa Foad called Western dancers "karaoke" performers on a Lebanese Tv show. this describes it well!
and most Mideastern women are lovely curvy :) i mean i m skinny& tall - but i love the curvy feminine look :D
You're right you almost can't have a true embodiment of bellydance unless you have middle easterns, northern africans, western pioneers and the like involved. I enjoy the cleanness of the show and the basic introductions are cool (albeit...i'm not happy with the terminology used) and the sets are nice but unless there's a wider range of women shown dancing it dosen't "feel" right. I can't hate tho...it's a decent representation of an age old dance.
I absolutely am in love with this show! It has become my new obessesion. I dance with the girls everytime they are on. It's a work out AND it makes me feel great. Seriously bringing out the sensuous side of us women. This is a true art. Burning calories and having fun all in one! I love it! And if anybody finds the soundtrack, MESSAGE ME TOO!! =)
I'm very much a fan of this show on FitTV. The woman who perform the dances are very aesthetic, not to mention art-in-motion. For me, my favorite dancer is Simone, not just because she's lovely, but because she's always smiling and seems to very much enjoy belly dancing.
omfg miss this show so much.. i luv doin belly dancin.. now i have to buy the dvd of it...
